I enjoyed staying at Gooseberry Guest House. The place is beautiful, tasteful and neat. I enjoyed the ambience and the overall feel of it. My stay would have been even better, but for two things: I normally ask for a room with an own bathroom with a shower. I might have neglected to do so in my initial enquiry, so I am not sure. Be that as it may, my room had no shower, which was disappointing and inconvenient. Since I have no way of knowing for sure whether this was my fault or theirs, I have no choice but to leave the matter be. The other problem that I had was that I was in a room directly below a whole bunch of young ladies who were either having a party or a bridal shower or something similar. They were most inconsiderate and made a lot of noise, late into the night and from early on in the morning.- talking loudly, banging doors and generally causing a racket. This left me a bit disgruntled, although I suppose that Gooseberry cannot be held responsible for that. Other than these issues, my stay was fine.

Verry peaceful and safe erea to sleep. Friendly and helpful lady who can speak Afrikaans also. Great breakfast. However we from the Northern provinces are not drinking tap water so maybe a littre or 2 drinking water would be nice in the room, but all and all we Wil visit again

Wake up to birdsong in a peaceful and quiet retreat.
The facility is clean and well maintained. the staff is friendly and highly competent under Anna's leadership. A larger fridge is recommended to cater for scorching summer days.

Very nice and quiet place, the rooms are clean and being cleaned every morning. The wifi works 100%. Breakfasts are good quality, staff are friendly. It would be nice if there was a shuttle service included. Overall, very pleasant stay.

I was tired after my 24 hours flight to Johannesburg but Gooseberry Guest Hotel made my day. After I arrived in quite bad mood, there was big true african mama who gave me a hug! I got into beautiful double room and was amazed how the stuff were so nice and smiling! They were very helpful whenever I needed anything! I was working on my PC next to the pool and I enjoyed it a lot.The interior of the hotel is very beautiful. Great value for the money! Cannot wait to come back!

I stayed here with a group of 6 that had just completed an outreach mission in a very primitive setting. We were tired and needed a few days to rest before heading back to the US. Gooseberry is warm and inviting. Rooms are filled with antiques, rich fabric, beautiful paintings by owner Susan Berry and cozy touches It was cool at night and there were flannel sheets on the bed. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for. Breakfasts were deliciously prepared and served.

I spent a night at this B&B on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and personal reception. It's not your usual B&B as it feels more like a quaint art gallery filled with paintings and books. But the tranquil feel is nice when you're on the road. Foreign travelers would surely also appreciate the historic feel of this place and should make sure to spend some time to absorb the atmosphere.

Words cannot describe how fantastic the gooseberry guesthouse truly is! After a long journey we got to our rooms which were absolutely spotless and full of little touches as well as the heater being left on which was perfect for being so late at night! The beds are so comfy and bathrooms huge! In the morning we were greeted by a member of staff that explained to help ourselves to the buffet and that breakfast would be served soon. When it arrived it was lovely and filling! The garden and drawing room are gorgeous and perfect to relax in. The staff couldn't be more helpful and the cleanliness of the guesthouse was outstanding. Each morning the staff would ask us how we were with a genuine interest not just because it's what they have asked to do, nothing was too much bother. On the Friday night we had a power cut (which is normal in SA) and as soon as we walked in a member of staff came to see us with candles and check if we were OK. Although there was more guest arriving the day we checking out we were allowed an extra hour after check out as it had been my brothers wedding the night before which we were so gracious for. It's these little things that make all the difference, it was the first time I've been to SA and guaranteed I will stay here every time I visit Joburgh!
