A lot of things need to improve at this place. The rooms smell stuffy, the beds are poor and cranky. The food is far from hotel standards. Some places of the exterior floors have been applied with a vanish, making them super-slippery when wet. Wifi requires you to sign in via Facebook - which makes no logical sense if offered for free as advertised by the hotel. This is well below the standards of most accommodation you will find in South Africa - yet it is priced very high for what it is worth.

Like many others on recent flights to Johannesburg, we encountered a painfully long immigration line (only 2 staff for 400+ travelers) and consequently missed an onward flight to another destination. We were encouraged to stay at the Petra Guest House by airport staff (who may have an agreement with its owners!). While it was pleasant, clean, and met all basic needs, there were some limitations. First, it is in a residential neighborhood and is run by Jordanians so it is a 'dry' hotel. There is a free shuttle to the guest house and they will take you by a local store (cash only) if you desire something stronger than water and tea. The rooms were simple and clean, and staff friendly. The dining room options are limited but at least the staff are very friendly and helpful. This place is good for one night stay if you are stuck at the airport but no more.

This hotel is adequate for an overnight stay near the airport. Free shuttle departs on the hour to the airport. The hotel grounds are beautiful at night. The manager, the porters, and the restaurant staff couldn't be more helpful. The aircon was cold and the water was hot.

The food from the restaurant was okay. I ate outside because the restaurant was hot and stuffy.

However, the "high speed wifi" promised at the airport went up and down the whole time. It was impossible to get any work done. It was so bad that the reception had a hard time printing receipts at check-out time. I was also told the hotel was in an area with restaurants, shops. There is nothing around. But If you ask to be taken in the shuttle to the restaurants, the receptionist lets you know, "We will charge you."

They advertise a spa but when I tried to make an appointment, I was told the cosmetologist was busy with the children.

The room was nice but the curtains would not close, thereby inviting the sun into my room at 5am. Easy fix.

We were stranded at the Johannesburg airport after not making a flight back to the US, as we were stand by passengers. We asked the airline personnel what hotel they would suggest us staying at for the evening. She gave us a brochure on Petra Guest House and Conference Centre. It looked nice enough, so she offered to give them a call and see what rate they would charge. We were quoted a rate of $75 US for the night, with free wifi and airport pickup.

Once there, what we saw did not compare in any way to what was in the brochure. Talk about photo shopping and cropping! This place was terrible. It was a true hole in the wall! They then double the price on what we were quoted at the airport, adding insult to injury, told us there would be a charge for internet as well. We repeated the price the airline quoted us, and again were told by management (?) that we either paid their price, or they were taking us back to the airport. By then, it was very late in the evening. So terrible was this place, we opted to go back to the airport than to stay here.

I absolutely agree with other postings, the owner/manager was rude and dishonest, the place was dirty, and fell far short of what had been described in the brochure.

Do not stay here!

The only good thing is the location, very close to the airport of Johannesburg.Room was dirty and cold. The problem is the owner, absolutely unpolite and dishonest. They sold us a a tour of the city, telling us that we could see Mandela's house and the Apatheid museum but they were both closed,we asked him some explanations and a discount but he answered us that we had already pay and he couldn't returned us any money. We paid 50 € for seeing nothing,he didn't even want to listen us,i really can't undesrtand how he can manage a guest house.

The worst guest house we have ever had the unfortunate night of staying in. We were assisted by the info desk at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg. We needed a place to spend one night in before our flight the next morning to port Elizabeth. The desk clerk showed me this glossy brochure of a beautiful place to stay in but on arrival it was quite the opposite. Not clean. The rooms had the bare minimum. Dogs barking all night. Noisy. The only good thing was the very helpful lady working at reception.

Good service. Airport Shuttle is included. Great staff.
I have nothing to complain about this place. They have everything you need. Restaurant, a small spa center and swimming pool. They also have organized tours which you can book at the reception.

Before I took the airport shuttle to the hotel I asked if they had wifi and the guy said yes. When I arrived and asked for the password, I was told they charge for internet. 60 rand ($6) for 50 mb which didn't even last an hour.
They are located far away from anything. The lady at the desk advised that I go to the mall to look for travel agents and said they could take me. I agreed and then she said it would cost 75 rand ($9) each way. I left the next day and my hostel near the airport is less than half the price, just as nice, has more knowledgable staff, and includes free wifi.

Everything was overstated, from the time to get there (longer than promised) to the free wifi (has a data limit) to the safety of the neighbourhood (did I mention avoid?). Staff are unfriendly, bedding is cheap and nasty and basic facilities you would expect from a "guest house / spar / lodge (all words they use) are very lacking.

Avoid at all costs..
