Summer Garden Guest Houses, as the name says, is luxurious Guest Houses situated in very safe and secure areas in Benoni, only 10 minutes away from OR Tambo (Johannesburg International Airport). We pride ourselves in the kind of gracious hospitality most people thought was extinct. Our staff are very friendly and helpful and our facilities in excellent condition. We are a bit more expensive than your average guest house because we are not average. We have generators and water tanks to make your stay enjoyable – (Only at The Palms & The Flower Box! ) We have air conditioners in all the rooms, Wi-Fi that works everywhere on the properties and heat pumps which supplies enough hot water for all our guests as well as ample secure parking. We also have borehole water. Due to the unpredictable and extended load shedding schedules, we have no choice but to increase our prices to provide our guests with extended generator times. We have also installed water tanks on the properties to provide uninterrupted water supply to you to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Because we are a small establishment with only 12 rooms per property the risk of coming into contact with many other people is limited. Apart from that, almost all our rooms have their own entrance doors from the outside, which means that guests have direct entrance to their rooms. We would like to assure you that our safety and hygiene protocols are of the highest standards.

Detailed Reviews
On arrival, I was pleased on the security and area it is placed, 10km from the airport and very easy to find, also situated 5 minutes walk up klip street is a small shopping mall, with a restruant and franchises.
I was met by Donald, the manager of the guest house, very polite and friendly and he showed me around the property , the swimming pool was a welcome site and the lapa to sit and enjoy a few drinks with family was excellent. I did not eat here so cannot comment on that experience.
The room is fitted with fridge, safe and plenty of storage, a tv with mnet was also great.
Excellent place to stay, will return.

I enjoyed my stay here, staff were friendly and helpful. I was travelling with my baby and there were 2 nights out of the 5 where guess were constantly hooting at the gate which kept waking my baby up. Perhaps a sign needs to be put up notifying people that check-in is not available after a certain time? It was quite distressing. The rooms are also quite dark, maybe additional lighting or lighter furniture needs to be considered? You can't see your clothes in the cupboard, it's too dark

Facilities and accommodation are really great! However, I would suggest some sort of notification of load shedding hours to be available daily for guests as well as emergency lights in each room for load shedding. Most guests are not local and would therefore not be aware of when load shedding would be and for how many hours, so all of a sudden you are left in the dark at 10pm!

We were very disappointed when we saw our room, it was very small, the bed occupied 89% of the room and we had a baby with us. The cleaning staff broke a cup and did not replace it, there were only two coffee cups to use in the room and we had to use the roken one. Breakfast was not included in the high price, we had tompay R100 additional pp for breakfast. The photos online were misleading, the rooms look bigger in the photos.

Response from Corne Muller, Owner at Summer Garden Guest House (The Palms)
Responded 13 Nov 2023
Good morning Natasha, I would suggest that you do not make use of third parties when making bookings. Always contact the accommodation establishment directly for better rates as no commission needs to be paid to the third party. You have chosen the smallest room for your budget. All information regarding your stay was on the third party website. I will definitely follow up on the broken cup, as it is unexceptionable to have it in the room. Kind regards. Summer Garden

My family and I made a booking at summer garden guesthouse for the easter weekend and had such a wonderful time. From the moment we made the booking when I spoke to Drika we already felt the warmth and hospitality. The day that we booked in we were greeted by Donald who was so welcoming and made sure that he could he help wherever he could to make our trip extra special which we really appreciated. The rooms as well as the entire place were very nice and clean. Rooms are very modern and very spacious. The breakfast was superb(buffet english breakfast). Great place and will definately recommend it

One thing around the beds. Too many pillows and then duvet is way too thick for summer which means you have to sleep with a AC switched on. I would prefer a fan and a thin duvet.
I also think the door to the bathroom in room 4 is dangerous...especially and night as it opens towards the toilet and has a stopper which at night you kick with your toe or walk into the door.

It was our second time in the Palms. The Gardencottage is wonderful, Donald and his wife a great hosts. But this time the organisation was annoying. The (direct) booking was very exhausting and the conversation a bit insolently. But finally we managed to book both rooms in the Gardencottage for 2 couples and 1 Airport-tranfer for us 2. BUT on arrival after the long flight from Germany the driver brought us without any consultation to another Guesthouse in the middle of nowhere!! We called the Palms and they said they had a geysir-problem in the cottage. We didn´t like the ofered Guesthouse/rooms and also had an appointment with our friends at the Palms (who were still on the plane). After some discussion we were finally brought to The Palms: There were no Geysirproblems to see, the rooms were prepared. So they just had a double-bookung and then other guests had to move to other Guesthouse. Stressfull welcome. No apologizes, nothing. That was poor!

Great place for relaxation. The environment is peaceful, friendly staff, cleanliness at its best. We would have loved to have the breakfast though. I would recommend the place for family and friends, as well as solo people if you have business in Benoni and or surrounding areas. Summer Garden is a must visit!

Donald was most welcoming and showed us to our room which was spacious and had a door leading out to the lovely garden area. Tables and chairs were available so we could enjoy a sundowner before dinner. The pool and lounge area looked inviting but we were happy with the table just outside our room. Donald very kindly let us store stuff in the large freezer which was a great help. We will stay again if doing the same route
