Lovely resort to rewind and find your soul. The resort is 10km off the N1. Anyone travelling along this route must stop over. A decent tar road leads up to the park. The surrounding is peaceful and next to a huge dam. The staff are friendly, and prices competitive. There is a restaurant overlooking the dam, small shop, swimming pool, putt putt (mini golf), tennis courts, netball field, fishing along the river. Birders paradise. Chalets and a caravan park. The ablutions in the caravan park are clean., each site has a braai, tap and electrical box. The laundry has washing machines and ironing boards. We loved it here, will stay again.

We, group of 14 people, (11 adults and 3 children) stayed in three chalets for three days. Unfortunately our stay was soured by the water, which was brown and looks as if it was pumped directly from the dam, muddy. We were told to let the taps ran for a while and the water will turn clear. We did that and after many baths of water running, the water stayed brown. We were told the filter system gave problems, but was repaired and the issue with the dirty water should be something of the past, which did not happen.

We usually go camping here over Easter weekends and find it to be an ideal getaway from Bloemfontein. It is one of the best places to visit over this period. Ablution blocks are well maintained and clean, camping sites are great and nicely laid out. There are tons activities for the family. Special activities were arranged over the weekend, for young and old.

So my partner and I were staying in the lux 2 sleepers and the rest of the family was camping.
At the camping ablution block, there were a whole row of men (staff there apparently but with no uniform on). They were staring intently at the ladies coming in and out of the bathrooms. Our small neices were coming and going as well and they made everyone feel extremely uncomfortable. When we complained to reception, she said that they are there looking for odd jobs like washing cars etc. This is unacceptable. If that's the case, we would be happy to book something like that with reception and not have strange men staring everyone down.
Put put course is extremely outdated, no shade, broken course and never enough balls and sticks for everyone.
The super tube is fun but everyone got cuts from it with blood running. Needs to be fixed asap.
The lux 2 bedroom was adequate, but for that price we are used to something a lot nicer. The TV channels were broken or bad quality. Barely enough crockery and cutlery.
At the time we were there we stayed in unit one, and there was construction going on at unit 3. The staff building was extremely loud. Shouting at each other, playing loud music etc.
On one of the days in the camp grounds, there was one staff member so drunk his buddies carried him into bushes. We complained to the manager that's always by the pool bar about that and the staff staring at woman and he thought it was funny. They were asked to move but just went and sat at the next ablution block
Serious lack of management and would not come back for those prices compared to what we received .
Renee at reception was extremely condescending when dealing with complains and requests with always having something to say back to try ans excuse their behaviors. Very disappointed.
Aldo want to mention the very loud grass cutters that go on ALL DAY!
On a positive note, staff was great, especially Elvis at the pool bar. He was incredible.the gentleman at the put put was also very friendly and helpful.
Bed in our unit was very comfortable.

I spent 3 nights at Aldam in one of the "Standard Family Four Sleeper" units. I had gone there on a conference, and was sharing with 3 other guys whom I had never met before. From the outside, the chalets are not very inspiring, but inside is where the biggest problems lie, besides looking like they were last looked at in the 1980's.

As I mentioned, I was sharing with 3 other men for 3 nights. There were 2 bedrooms, with 2 single beds in each, mattresses were very basic. Also, unit 57's ceiling is obvioulsy a bit loose around the sides, especially the bedroom next to the bathroom. I opened the bed sheets, and there was a whole pile of dirt and concrete that had fallen behind the pillow area, along with a few bugs. The kitchen is extremely basic, not much room to prepare anything.

The bathroom was the biggest problem though, as there was only 1 bath, no shower. There is a loose/coiled shower head, but considering there is no curtain, made it really difficult to use, so this was a big problem. The brown water compounded the issue, as when one person bathed, it left a lovely brown ring around the whole bath for the next guy. Also gross if you want to brush your teeth, I ended up using bottled water instead.

The meals served on the conference were also a bit hit and miss. First night the burger was terrible (couldn't decide what meat it was, beef, pork or roadkill!) and then the last night was quite nice. So, need to improve the overall quality of meals.

I also requested wifi access to do a some business on a laptop, and that didn't work either, so all in all a bit frustrating.

So, just be warned if you are planning a trip here. Aldam could really use a lot of TLC.

We have just had our family reunion at Aldam - over 70 people for a period of 4 days. Various family members made use of either the bigger units, luxury two sleeper chalets or camping facilities. The public areas are well maintained and cleaned continuously (clearing of refuse bins, etc). We were in one of the older 4 sleeper units. Our chalet was serviced daily and was very clean. Unfortunately the unit was a bit tired looking - it definitely needs a serious upgrade. The beds were fine, but pillows were lumpy. The bathroom fittings are very old and there was only a hand shower in the bath. The kitchen was adequate, but once again everything is old. Only essential cutlery and crockery was supplied. We had a nice sized fridge with deep freeze which is essential. There was only a very noisy air con in the lounge area, the bedrooms were very hot and definitely also need air con. The brown water is off putting, so do take lots of bottled water (5l bottles). The newer luxury 2 sleepers were lovely and much more modern than the unit we rented. Those who camped/caravanned did mention that the wait at the ablution blocks could be long and that running a bath in one of the bathrooms affected the water pressure in the showers. The little shop sells the essentials, so if you go self catering as we did, shop before you leave home. Other than that the resort staff were very accommodating in making areas available for a such a big group. Some members of our group made a trip to Willem Pretorius game reserve, which they all enjoyed. It is an easy 2 and a half hour drive from Johannesburg, and the general feeling was that we would go back to Aldam resort again.

An ideal stop over camping resort on our way to Mosselbay. Friendly staff at reception. We enjoyed our stay.
The ablution facilities needs some upgrading. All the geyser rooms doors are not all locked with some open live electric wiring on the geysers which cause an electric hazard. During our visit the water was brown because there was a filter problem

An ideal stop over camping resort on the route Johannesburg to Bloemfontein. Pricing is fair and reasonable. Beautiful natural scenery, stands well grassed, and on a great dam, sites well serviced and all services works BUT the ablutions are old and in need of modernisation. Also the hot water supplies in the morning are limited thus almost ensuring a cold shower

We traveled down from Johannesburg for the week end and it was an easy 2 and a half hour drive even with the road works around Kroonstad. The chalets are well appointed with everything needed for a self catering weekend. Those we were in had lovely views over the dam where the water level is very low. We had breakfast in the restaurant which was very good value for money and the staff were very friendly.
The Willem Pretorius reserve is well worth a visit where large herds of game can be seen. We were amazed by the number of Sable in the reserve.
