The rooms are a little dated and the public areas inside are a little lacking in atmosphere but this is outweighed by the welcome and humour from all of the people working here, which was constant during our stay. The hotel general manager and the chef walked around daily and even in the late evening to make sure all guests were ok and were happy and relaxed to chat. It came across strongly that they were happy to have us as guests in their hotel. The front is quite ugly with basically a concrete car park but you are surprised by the large garden and pool at the centre which all rooms overlook, which is very nice. The hotel was very clean and food and drinks were fine with no complaints and breakfast was very good.

Bloemfontein made my stay in Bloemfontein fantastic. The facility is so marvelous guys, keep up the good. I don't have complains but I am complementing the good hospitality management displayed by the whole staff there. I mean from the reception to the cleaners those guys just know how to look after their guests. This the type of service each guest expect from hotels an staff. The breakfast is above expectations, the pool is amazing and the garden made that place look like international places. I am speechless, in summary guys I appreciate everything there. As we arrived tired trying to check in the receptionist told us about the new rules so therefore our booking had to be changed because my mother in law has booked for us with her membership card however we thought we might as well register ours and it was successful what I fail to understand why would the lady assisting us rather focus on the positive of telling us of our options instead of focusing on negative. The room was clean but the pillow cases were smelling so bad you could tell they did not change the pillows. Was so disappointed.

One major issue that was not resolved as it occurred on the next day as well, the staff parks guests vehicles at the drop off zone, which is left there over night. The issue was that when I wanted to drop off my family and luggage due to the rain, I could not access the drop off area in front of the hotel due to four cars being left unattended in front of the hotel. I confronted the staff about this and it took 10min for them to have the cars removed. This happened the next day again with staff allowing guests to leave their vehicles in the drop off area. I found this to be very unprofessional, and the fact that it is re-occurring bad management.
My second issue with the hotel was, that the staff at check-in refused to call the manager to allow me to bring this issue under his attention.
My third issue was that the room was dusty, and with me being sensitive to dust, ended up with a closed nose the next morning.

Starting with rooms not being ready at 14:00 which is check-in time, no refreshments offered while you wait. No mini-bar fridge in the room, apparently they don't have enough for each room to have one, so you must improvise with an ice bucket. Only 1 bottle of 300ml still water provided per day. Day 2, housekeeping didn't replace the used hand towels...still no fridge available. Day 3, by 13:20 the room had not been cleaned by housekeeping...still no fridge, reported all issues to duty manager in order for hotel to redeem itself. Day 4, by 12:56 the room had not been cleaned by housekeeping, and informed same manager...by 14:57 housekeeping still did not bring fresh towels and maintenance walked past my room to move a fridge to another room - alas I only get an ice bucket again. Never has Southern Sun ever let me down this much. The only redemption is their chefs and evening waiting staff. If I wasn't booked to stay here by my employer for work, I would have demanded a refund and checked into another hotel.

Stayed the night here after driving from Knysna. Hotel was packed and check in service was extremely slow (not the end of the world since it was during peak season). Masks are mandatory in public areas (as per their signage) yet hardly anyone in the busy lobby was actually wearing masks and there was no covid compliance officer to be seen anywhere. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Pity the bath was dirty. After waiting to be seated at breakfast (it was very busy) we were shown to a table. The previous couple had obviously recently left. The staff did not even manage to clean the dirty table before seating us and then handed us dirty cutlery on top of that. That was the final straw. If that's the "cleanliness" displayed in front of you, can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors. Suffice to stay, we skipped breakfast and checked out early. Up your cleaning game Southern Sun.

Braam is a discourteous, disrespectfull and arrogant person who does not understand the meaning of the word hospitality and should not be on the frontline manning your reception desk, in fact he shouldn't even be in the hospitality industry. My room upon arrival had at least 10 mosquitoes in it, requested a can of doom which eventually sorted out the mosquitoes. The windows were filthy and were never cleaned. Internet connection to my phone stopped working after the first day. Message kept on saying I'm connected but needed a voucher. Phoned reception to resolve it but nothing helped. My laptop stayed connected through out for some strange reason.

Worst experience ever. Staying for a week and if not harassed by staff for tips in cash cause everything is shared they take over an hour to produce food on the table. Then when you do complain you are told that you are unfair! Where in your life? Oh well… just another example of what service levels are stooping to in South Africa. Horrified! In addition the staff talk at the top of their voices in the passages early in the mornings when they come on duty with no concern for guests who are working in their rooms. Also have a blatant disregard for hotel equipment as it is bashed around with no regard. Self entitled individuals with NO discipline whatsoever, seems self entitlement order of the day,! Disgusting display of where hospitality is going….

When there are so many Airb&b options and guesthouses, using this hotel is a waste of money. At check in, I ask for a non smoking room and I get taken to a room reeking of smoke. My poor asthmatic lungs gasping in horror I turned and fled. Second room felt like a 3km walk after having walked half way around the hotel to the first room. The room are adequate, the restaurant is mediocre and the overall value for money is very disappointing.
