Lemon and Lime has been welcoming and impressing guests since 2005. The Houghton family took over in 2015 and have put every ounce of their hearts into the establishment and the daily running thereof. This luxurious guesthouse is centrally located in a tree-lined avenue, in the suburb of Park West in Bloemfontein, and boasts beautifully well-maintained grounds with lush rose filled gardens. Savour the relaxing atmosphere while you enjoy a sherry in winter, read a book on the veranda, take a swim in the pool in summer, or take a stroll in the garden and appreciate the abundant bird life. Lemon and Lime has 12 spacious, stylish, non-smoking rooms. All with en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, DStv and personal safes. The facilities on our premises included free Wi-Fi, a pool area, secure on-site parking with a night guard and more. Lemon and Lime is ideal for both business and leisure guests alike. Expect a mixture of stylish accommodation, modern facilities, excellent service, warm Free State hospitality and tranquil surroundings when you visit Lemon and Lime Guesthouse.

Every request was met with a friendly willingness to assist. Special breakfast requests were met with a smile and fulfilled.
My favorite was the special touch of homemade “lemon and lime” soap in the bathroom
Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable with crisp linen and our own balcony. Take note there are chairs in the cupboard to sit out on the balcony.
We chose to stay there again on our return trip.
A big plus is the high level of security. We did not have to offload bikes from our car overnight as there is an electric fence, cameras and a diligent guard who patrols throughout the night. Great stay, thank you lemon and lime 😊

I was looking for a guest house with parking form my trailer. I got one better. Covered parking for my car and trailer. A security guard was on duty and helped me hitch and unhitch the trailer. Travelling with my young son and 86 year old mother, Meg recommended a ground floor room for Mom before I had to ask. The rooms had the old world charm I was after and the beds were havens of luxurious bliss after a long drive. Conveniently located around the corner from a filling station and Woolworth foods. Late night dinner sorted, in bed and asleep in record time. I will definitely be back. Thank you for your care.

I recently enjoyed an excellent stay at a charming guest house in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. The living spaces were exceptionally comfortable, offering a serene and peaceful retreat from daily life. The tranquility of the surroundings made it easy to relax and unwind. The staff were incredibly nice and attentive, ensuring every need was met with a smile. Their warmth and hospitality truly enhanced the experience. Whether I was lounging in the cozy common areas or enjoying the quiet of my room, every moment was delightful. I highly recommend this guest house for anyone seeking a peaceful and comfortable getaway.

Rules there are just ridiculous. I advice that you let people who are requesting a quotation about your rules. The food was terrible I advice you to take cooking staff to culinary school. Refrain from keeping your dog in the house as it's furr is all over. Cooking staff must wear caps when cooking to avoid their hair ending up in the food.

Response from Meg Houghton, Owner at Lemon and Lime Luxury Guesthouse

Good day Yvonne I am not surprised to see a negative review from you as I knew from your first night (of 3) with us that our establishment was not what you were looking for, even though your colleagues seemed more than happy with our services. To address some of the remarks in your review: All the "rules" as you put them were communicated to your agent on the invoice sent to them prior to confirming the booking. The one "rule" that seemed to annoy you most was that the guesthouse has quiet time from 20:30 where we expect guests to vacate the public areas and be considerate of other patrons on site. This is due to the fact that we are a mostly corporate guesthouse in the week and pledge to offer a good nights sleep to our guests (especially on week nights) and you and your colleagues were looking for more of a party venue than we offer. We did notice (even after the first night) that you didn't consume much of your dinner (although at breakfast you seemed satisfied) and asked numerous times how we can better fulfil your dietary requirements and even offered to perhaps get you take out if you'd prefer. On every occasion you declined this and explained you were just not hungry or the portions were too big. As your room was upstairs and the elderly Labrador onsite never goes upstairs I am unsure how you can say there was dog hair in your room? Also as per previous reviews our standards of cleanliness are of the highest and I find this claim to be unsubstantiated. At all times the kitchen staffs hair is pulled back when working in the kitchen and we have never had a complaint of hair in the food before. Also, please going forward at establishments please notify the staff of such issues when they occur so they may be rectified. Especially when asked numerously during your stay. On departure your male colleague, who was an absolute gentleman during his stay, complimented us and thank us for a wonderful stay, so I am surprised you and him had such different experiences. I realise our establishment is not for everyone and I suggest you perhaps communicate your needs of a place where one can socialise more later into the night be communicated to your agent for future stays. I hope you find a place in Bloem where you are more comfortable for future stays. Regards Meg

We reserved the family room, expecting to find at least double beds to accommodate our needs. It seems unreasonable to book a room designated for families and then be required to pay for two separate rooms if you need an extra bed instead of a sleeper couch. A family room should ideally cater to the needs of at least five individuals.
My son participated in a tennis tournament and required adequate rest during our stay. To ensure his comfort, I allowed him to share the bed with my husband while I made do with the uncomfortable sleeper couch. Unfortunately, the family room was too compact, and the furniture and kitchen did not meet standard expectations.
Additionally, the breakfast provided was subpar. If takeaway options are available due to our early departures each morning, it would be appreciated if dietary preferences were considered. For instance, I avoid sweets and white bread, leaving me with limited choices. A plain Cheese sandwich can hardly pass as an adequate breakfast!
As an employee of CUT, I chose your guest house based on a colleague's recommendation. However, my experience fell short of expectations, leaving me very disappointed.

The whole process of being greeted by Manie (spelling?) and shown to my amazing room. Followed by the personal attention at breakfast by Loretta was really outstanding.

With all the little branded personal touches in the room, I can understand why there are comments about it being “home from home”.

I arrived a little late in the evening so did not get to enjoy the garden but I will make plans to check-in a little earlier next time.

I travel a lot and Lemon and Lime Luxury Guesthouse was one of the best accommodation experiences I have had visiting Bloemfontein. The pricing of the rooms are on par with some hotels that don't offer nearly as much: Spacious, clean and luxuriously furnished rooms. All amneties including a fridge, television, writing desk, plush feather down bedding and a fully fitted kitchen with cutlery, utensils and a microwave in a communal kitchen for those guests wanting to prepare or heat food for themselves. The gardens are show quality and the setting is so tranquil that you can hardly believe that you are a mere minute or two from the mall. The breakfast served was extensive and like you would have expected at a big hotel. Friendly staff, ample privacy and parking. Definitely would recommend!

This place was excellent - food was great / clean rooms / fast & friendly service from all. I will recommend this place anytime for Business / Leisure travels. I have travelled to many places but this particular one in Bloem stands out. They make you feel like home away from home & it was very peaceful at night as well. The morning breakfast was amazing & I really enjoyed my stay there.

The room was comfortable, the neighborhood pleasant and the breakfast was sufficient with the stewed fruit a winner. Battery bulbs in the lamp and a standby LED light may be nice additions to the rooms for load shedding. Secure parking and good access control on the premises.

Convenient and nice stopover between CT and Jhb. Everyone friendly and helpful other than the lady serving breakfast. When we said my mom had injured herself and couldn't get to the breakfast room and we'd like to take breakfast to her and eat at the table outside her room, she became very rude and hostile, saying we would be seriously compromising the quality of the establishment. Really???!!! Not sure if she wanted us to drag my mom with a fractured sacrum to the breakfast room in order to retain quality. It was rude and off-putting.

Thank you so much Jennifer for your kind words. I do apologize for the misunderstanding with the lady who is in charge of breakfast, I believe she just wanted to ensure you the best breakfast possible as the outside tables had not yet been cleaned and that we would not be able to serve all the different buffet options to you outside. I am glad you were able to enjoy your breakfast on the patio with your mother. We do hope your mothers is doing better and that we see host you again in the near future.
