Thank you for a perfect spot to sleep Over in Bloem. Loved the history lessons around the place. Will be back for sure. Beds comfortable, very central and neat and clean. A comprehensive guide to the area provided for those with time to explore the sites.

We stayed at B&B @ Bloem while in town for my cousin's wedding. It was 38 degrees, which is normal for Bloem in the summer, and there is only a ceiling fan with no air con. While the bed was comfortable enough, the apartment is quite run down. The fridge didn't keep our water and food cold, and the bathroom presents like a hospice. Marthinus is very friendly but the accommodation is very basic. Unfortunately, we will not stay here again.

The host is very friendly and helpful but I am sorry the room did not feel fresh and clean. Couch pillow looked like somebody sat on it just before I came in, pillow was out much more than the other. The room bedding needs an upgrade. You hear all the noise from your neighbors. We did not rest well. I am sorry but this was my experience.

My wife and I stayed at B&B Bloem for the weekend in the Cabrierre room. Its difficult to review - there's good and bad points: Pros: - The host was very welcoming; - Neat, secure place with secure parking; - Excellent location; - Lovely theme and colours, vintage; - The décor and vintage look was excellent; - Nice history to the place with a travellers book in the room; - Peaceful and serene with a lovely garden setting; - Offers breakfast (halaal included - It would, however, be nice if it could be externally certified and this may remove doubt and attract more guests since accommodation with halaal food is difficult to get in Bloemfontein); - The room had a heater, blankets and an electric blanket which was perfect for the cold night; - Bed was comfortable. At 1st glance, we were happy with the style and the above Pros. After being there for a while though, the following Cons were noted: - Not the cleanest of places. - The microwave had food particles in it and the kitchen was not very clean; - Although having a kitchen, microwave, kettle and a kitchen unit, there were limited dishes. Only 2 mugs and spoons, no plates, saucers, etc.; - Refreshments were VERY limited with literally only 2 teabags (5 roses tea, no other option, i.e. rooibos, etc.), 1 coffee creamer sachet, few sugar and coffee sachets and no milk sachets/units; - The bathroom was clean with towels and shower gel provided. No hand soap/sanitizer was provided and the air-freshener was almost empty; - The rugs were filthy. It needs a good wash; - The vintage look was lovely but it seems that it masks the dirt. For example, the couch needs to be washed. It seems it has been kept in an old dirty state for the look but that not need be the case; - They offer breakfast but we did not partake for the reason that it is only offered between 6 and 8am...on a Sunday. Not worth waking up that early on a Sunday morning to eat, rather relax, sleep and eat at nearby places. - The walls are not sound proof so can easily hear neighbouring units. Fortunately the neighbours were not rowdy. It was a good experience and we thank Marthinus. It is, however, difficult to rate with the negative aspects but I'm sure these issues can be attended to.

This b&b is a very antique type of accommodation, which we loved. I slept like a baby with the electric blanket and comfortable bed. The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful. Only thing not working was the wifi. I will definitely go back to this much affordable b&b.

The property (in a quiet residential suburb of Bloemfontein) and our room might be described by some as 'quaint' but compared with all our other S. African accommodation were, to our eyes, old fashioned and out dated. The beds were not comfortable, the bathroom could have done with a makeover. The owner, however, was very friendly and, once he got talking, full of information. The breakfast was very good!

Response from Dr Marthinus J, Owner at B&B @ Bloem
Responded 16 Aug 2016
I am quite sure most of the furniture will not be found elsewhere given there history. The beds is such a personal option, 99.9% of guests tell us how well they slept and could hardly wake up. The bathroom is also a personal choise as we are a three star B & B as well as AA highly recommended. However I am not satisfied if the guests are not happy.

Oh,how deceptive the internet can be. This establishment was certainly disappointing. First,we were given a room that was reeking of stale cigarette smoke!! Then we discovered that they had not given us the room that we had booked. So we moved. This room was better,no smell. However,it could have been cleaner. To find the previous occupants rubbish in the bin and on the dresser was not a positive experience. The water was hot and plentiful.Generally, this place is a bit tatty. No surface in the bathroom for your toiletries. The breakfast was well prepared and served by a pleasant lady.

Response from Dr Marthinus J, Owner at B&B @ Bloem
Responded 16 Aug 2016
Yes I am sorry the family room I gave the guests had a double bed and two single beds in. Origianally I gave them this room because it had two beds in. However we had a lady guest the previous evening which must off smoked in the room which we do not allow. All our rooms are non smoking. After I was made aware off this we moved the guests. The problem with old rubbish I have taken up with the person cleaning that specific room. I might just add that we do not endeavour to fool guests.

the warm welcome by the host Dr M . Jordaan on a very windy wet evening was just what we needed . the rooms are spacious, well appointed with comfy beds, fridge, couch for reclining. everything all clean tidy ,also the welcome notice book had a variety of info including places of interest, resturants & other useful details. the breakfast is a must before departing on a long trip, in an area with relaxed atmosphere & quiet music.
