My friends and I were traveling from Cape Town to Pretoria and decided to stop by overnight to rest from the long drive.

We booked one of the chalets advertised - the price looked tremendously great on one of the offers. Unfortunately to our detriment, upon arrival; the chalet we booked was very bad. The two bedroom wooden shack had a strong odour, it looked generally unhygienic and had old furniture.

We went back to reception and requested an upgrade. A high end chalet was made available for us; this one was much better and cleaner.

The ambience of the estate is generally laidback. Exceptionally great Restuarant onsite; however the bars and breakfast offered have a lot to improve on

It was a worthwhile experience. However would not be returning

Allowing guests to make noise and scream and shout till early hours of the morning is not appreciated by guests that need to sleep who have been on the road for extended periods and need to depart early or who have children with them that are subjected to the behaviour we were. If large groups are booked they should be accommodated however individual bookings for 1-2 people should be roomed away from groups who were scattered and looked for by screaming and shouting. I understand that you cant be held responsible for the behavior however security should be patrolling and reporting to the office so that it can at least be controlled to an acceptable level. The room was spacious thanks you. Please have the tv looked at to sort the buzzing noise and the remote is either flat or faulty.

We stayed in an executive cabin with our two kids. The only saving grace was that the beds were comfy. Other than that, the cabin was very budget by anyone's standards. We weren't expecting 5 star owing to the cost per night but there is plenty that needs attention; kitchen utensils are lacking (weren't even braai tongs despite the presence of a braai), couches are really uncomfortable, wifi didn't work despite repeated calls to reception, shower was really awful and I battled to rinse my hair owing to patchy water from the shower head.
The other saving grace was the proximity to the Bush Pub which the kids loved; food and service here was good despite it being far from clean (dirty glasses, etc.).
Our chalet was also very close to a tavern on the adjoining property (separated only by bush!!!) with plenty of shacks in open view around the tavern. Surprisingly enough, noise wasn't an issue from the tavern but from guests booked into adjoining chalets on Bains. Party went all night and was still continuing when we left at 7:30 the following morning.
This is not an establishment we would stay at again.

Seeing that we all know that load shedding is a problem in the country. I find it abysmal that an establishment like bains can take full payment from a traveller when they spent tge intire stay in total darkness. No use of TV facilities also no use of aircon when the temperature was above the 35 degree mark. On checking out i aired my disappointment to which they offered me a complimentary breakfast the next time i visit. Really very disappointed. I felt let down by this establishment.

The rooms are pleasant, clean and comfortable for a stop over. The reception was welcoming. The accommodation is not far off the main road (N1). I like the fact that the reception is available 24hrs a day. They were quite accommodating, storing meat for us as the room did not have a fridge. Make sure your Google Maps is updated as we were taken on a round-about trip when the place is actually quite easy to find.

Friendly staff and pride of the South Africa Big 5 lodge.

Numerous restaurants on the premises with great food, lovely bed rooms for all class types.

Secured parking for guest and the lodge can get noisy on Friday evenings, go and enjoy the nightlife with the friendly city of roses students!

Venue and food is good. Rooms are below par and sub-standard to expectations of a 3-star facility. Room nr. 6 was dusty (thick layer of old dust on ledges in bathroom) and room had a dirty and unmaintained appearance. No hair dryer and a loose plank was hanging down from the dressing table. Bad sewerage smell outside rooms, and when it rained the sewerage was bubbling up onto lawn outside #6. Was reported to person cleaning the room on the last morning. Staff is very friendly though.

We stayed in the log cabin. Cost just under R1000 which we found was very expensive considering it was midweek, in a very basic log cabin that is in need of maintenance. Bathroom old and Dstv didn't work. We only stayed one night.

The overall stay was good, rooms are comfortable and clean. I would have appreciated a small bar fridge in the rooms to keep our milk and cold drink. There is coffee facilities in the rooms but no milk and nowhere to keep your own bought milk cold. Only issue I had was access to the Breakfast area was not easy as we had to walk all the way from Woonstel Block A right around the parking area through the far gate and walk up because it does not seem like there is an path / access way within the complex itself to the pool / breakfast area.

Ive booked for an overnight stay from our way back from the Eastern cape to springs. Decided to stay at bains lodge.
Booked accommodation for our family of 6. 2 adults and 4 kids. On arrival they told us there is a problem as the 2 adult were booked on the 1 side of the property and the kids on the other side of the property. They also said they were sorry about the problem and they can fix it if we pay another R1000 otherwise there is nothing rhay can do. Ive then decided to cancel our booking at Bains lodge and went straight home.
