Freezing cold rooms with no working air conditioner or electric blanket. I had to sleep in a tracksuit to stay warm. Bed uncomfortable and no working tv. I’ve stayed here before, but the room felt old and dated now and needs an upgrade. Not sure I would come back.
I have stayed here before & have always found this place of a very high calibre. Great rooms, great facilities, and wonderful hosts who do not smother you at all. I highly recommend this establishment & look forward to the next time I am in Bloem!
The guesthouse itself is lovely, the lavish rooms and views. Bbut the unfriendly host (the pregnant one) soured my whole trip. We travelled as a group for work and all felt too scared to ask her something. The response was as expected yes or no sir/madam but the lack of life and vibrance made you feel like more of a nuisance than a welcomed guest. The pillows were too puffy to sleep on nicely. Maybe have a flatter one and puffy one.
Arrived at 19.30. Phoned for directions as street sign was missing so although within a km or 2 couldn't find the place. very unfriendly response -we're out shopping for food. Go to gate we'll SMS security codes to get in. Your room key is at the door".End of conversation. Get to door - there's a safe on the wall. After several tries to open safe I call again. Told "oh didn't tell you to press E after the code - No apology, just a statement. Not a soul to be seen - all lighting on dim. It was a company booking which included dinner. Find room and also find a tray on the desk covered with tin foil. I was cold, wet from storm and tired. I ate a small amount of cold dinner as I wasn't going to carry my tray downstairs to see if I could access a microwave (or not). Found out the next day that there is a microwave in a cupboard in the passage. This info is in the Guest directory on the coffee table. One does not normally put your case down and rush to read the directory!!! Dinner - ZAR185.00 - was such a rip off. If you like a meal of starch - this is the place to get it! 1st night - 2/3 plate of dry rice, bowl of pasta with perhaps mayonnaise dressing here and there, chicken leg and piece of thigh, desert spoon of beetroot salad and desert spoon of mushroom sauce. 2nd night -1 boiled potato, a side plate with salad, which would be defined as a plate garnish, a large supposedly garlic roll which when heated in a microwave is a pulpy, chewy mush, and wait for it -two oblong meat patties - frozen fast food type! These trays are put in rooms at about 16.30 before all staff evacuate the premises. Night 3 - I told them I'd eat out. Had grilled Kingklip, three fresh veggies, warm bread rolls, sizeable garnish, glass of wine, excellent service - ZAR180. Four of us stayed there from same company. We came and went separately. All had the same experience. The only conversation staff had with us was. "Good morning - do you want hot food (breakfast). This is what we have today." No further communication. - I found it astounding that this service level exists - at this price - in an establishment which has spent a fortune on location setting, image, boutique hotel décor and creating ambience!! I don't know where the owners are but they surely cannot be aware of how their guests are treated - or not. If you want a latchkey experience in nice surroundings - you'll be fine there. If you want any vestige of customer service and normal guest / staff interaction - this is not the place to go!…
Great experience, appealing with a natural feel, quite & soothing to the mind. Best facilities, excellent service, spacious & beautiful rooms, clean & everything decorated & designed with such class👌
We arrived at Altissimo on Friday evening for a wedding in bloem. The web site said we had until 20:00 to check-in and travelling from Jhb we arranged our day to be in time for this, only to receive a message saying they will leave the key in the box at the front door 'please lock the door'. No one to receive us or welcome us or nothing. They have a kitchen but dont serve dinner. We were not allowed to have breakfast in bed on Sunday. We were told that if we want breakfast we need to sit in the cold dining room down stairs where you are watched like a child. So we paid for bed and breakfast but never a breakfast. The decor is stunning except for the portraits of old people peering at you in the room. 'Awkward!'. If you looking for a cold reception and lonely weekend away, Altissimo is the place…
Well located; Not far from CBD yet nested in nature. Comfortable and reasonably priced too. Didn't get time to enjoy the beautiful view and establishment's features. Staff appeared friendly and professional.
Beautiful rooms. Comfortable bed and thankfully a desk... Which not every place has. So quiet!! aircon for heat was great. Manager Jade very helpful. They have an honesty bar, which I loved, but no ice available. The wi fi is excellent. Breakfasts yummy and if filter coffee had been available I would have given it 5 stars. I will go back. Only 10 min from city centre but has country feel.
Staying at Altissimo is always a pleasent experience. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The house is inviting to look at and has a nice view of the Free State plains. The service is excellent and the manageres (Jade) always strives to go the extra mile. Breakfast is interesting as it changes daily and is not the normal buffet. Dinners are available on request and really a good choice, the suggested menu is tasty and value for money. I travel frequently to Bloemfontein and whether it is for business or private Altissimo is always my guesthouse of choice. Thanks Jade and team for ensuring a enjoyable stay whenever I visit your city.
When one arrives at Altissimo, both the exterior and interior of the main building is impressive – definitely 5 star décor and furniture. The feel is rich and luxurious. Unfortunately this is where the 5 star rating ends. • The receptionist was rude and arrogant who made us feel that we were intruding and unwelcome. When I looked at other hotel reviews on the internet, this has been reported by several other guests. In addition, not once during our 5 day stay were either my colleague or I warmly greeted or asked if we were enjoying our stay or needed anything. • We were allocated rooms outside of the man building in the so-called “penthouses”. It looks like rooms were built on top of an old converted barn (not confirmed). • The stairs leading up to the rooms were not lit at all. Had to use cell phone torch. • The rooms are separated by dry walling which was not well insulated. This resulted us hearing every movement from neighbours next door, including bowl movements. This resulted in interrupted sleep. • The bottom floor of the “penthouse” is occupied by permanent tenants. They were having a loud get-together on their patio every night while smoking right underneath my room. Smoke travelled all the way up into my room. Their dog also barked while we were trying to sleep. • Lighting in room was bad. Especially the bathroom had one down-light only. • We experienced an extended power outage as a result of a storm during our 4-day stay. They were ill prepared for this. Although the main house was supported by a generator, the “penthouses” were not. Candles were provided, but no matches or lighter. Chargeable torches or at least matches to light candles, I believe should have been a standard in all rooms. • The air conditioner was too small to cope with the size of the room – also noisy. • The booking websites offer free Wi-Fi – it does not state that it is available only in the main building. • Breakfasts were unimaginative. The booking websites only show pictures of glamorous rooms. Given that the rooms are nicely appointed and that no cost was spared. However, it is when one pulls away the layers you realise that looks can be deceiving. The main house might be 5 star but the penthouses are definitely not. Above all, sleep quality was impaired due to inadequate room facilities as a result of both noisy neighbours, their dog and inadequate sound proofing/dry walling. Perhaps the main house provides for a better experience but I will not stay at Altissimo again.…
