As a woman travelling alone in the Transkei, this is definitely the place to stay! It is your perfect home away from home. The Owner Christo, went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and at home, the staff are friendly and polite. Breakfast is to die for, with such a lovely spread to choose from. The rooms are simply beautiful and the décor is very tastefully done. Everything you may need is right there and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. it well deserves it's four star rating. It is the only place I will every stay. Thank you Christo

We've been looking for a place to stay in Mthatha (it was very busy on Tuesday night, so be aware). And unfortunately we couldn't find anything. Bedrock was also fully booked, but the owners were really nice and called quite a few places to find somewhere to stay for us, if they treat their guests as good as they treated us - complete strangers who they will probably never see again, this is the place to stay in Mthatha. From other places we just heard "sorri man".

Very comfy rooms and good location. The breakfast was the best I've had at a B&B. There were some minor irritations like the wifi access does not reach the room so I had to work in the dining room. They also did feel the need to tell me that the other guest staying there was "African but we know him very well," so the racism allegations seem justified. But he (the other guest) seemed very happy regardless. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Mthatha but this was slightly outside my budget (at R700 a night) so probably won't stay there again.

We stayed there in July, the owner Chris didn't treat us same as white guests, we were not given gate remote but white guests were given. He was sooooo rude and unfriendly to us. We included shuttle in our booking ,he drove us so terrible. It was the worst week of my life.

When the gates close, it's a little bit of heaven! I am a regular guest every 2 weeks, i wouldn't advise any other BnB. No other room compares to these rooms, cleaniliness is the word of the day. Cant believe the racist card is being used again, the owners are friendly, courtious and accommodating. Was almost to scared to write this review, scared i don't place on my trip ;-).

I have stayed in a few places in Mthatha and I will never stay anywhere else except for Bedrock. It is a home away from home. The premises are safe, the owners are friendly and caring, the food is amazing and the rooms are as comfortable as can be. Bedrock is THE ONLY place to stay when in Mthatha. Thank you to Chris and Tania for always delivering above average service. See you soon!

An unplanned car break down (bearing in mind I am from Durban) resulted in a late afternoon phone call to Chris and Tania pleading for a room to stay in. They were more than accommodating fitting me into a luxurious and spacious room with a lamb potjie for dinner ending my day on a high note. My car now sitting in the dealership in Umtata and me now awaiting the inevitable "this is the problem sir" for a day they allowed me to loiter (for lack of a better term) around the house for the day with the more than willing nature of offering the "do you need a lift anywhere" & "can we get you anything from the shops" hospitable attitude. They really did make my unfortunate event that much less unfortunate. I couldn't thank them enough for their hospitality but what I can do is (without a doubt) advise that this is the the place to stay in Umtata. Thank you again. Peter.

This guest house appears to be operated by a couple in the construction business as the facility is over-built with rooms, leaving too little space for cars so that hey have to come and get your keys to move the cars around when someone needs to leave. In addition, there is quit a bit of stone-like material used throughout the rooms and outdoors. The walls were thin, making it too easy to hear other guests, and the hot water gave out. The breakfast was OK. Overall, the price seemed high relative to other guest houses, which were more comfortable and attractive.
