Detailed Reviews
actually visited and stayed in St Francis Bay 17 years ago. It is much changed, but the white properties with black roofs still out number others. The area has grown somewhat in the years that have passed since the last visit, but the area is still a delight to visit
The hotel itself was clean well set out and comfortable. Our room was quirky, cool and provided plenty of room, the gardens provided and option to swim and sunbathe The beach was walkable.
Breakfast was good, staff helpful and at least two much visit restaurants within ten minutes driving distance Peri-peri (taverna) on the canals (please mind the porcupine crossing the road!) and Nevermind, the restaurant nearest St Francis point were absolute gems

My Wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant weekend at Sandals Guest House en route to a brief vacation in Knysna. A bit difficult to find as the roads leading to the property are not well sign posted. On arrival we were met by Front Office Manager Lusanda - an absolute joy, friendly and efficient and a real asset tp Sandals Guest House. Rooms were clean and airy and the property is well maintained . Basic breakfast offered on the patio overlooking the pool is included in the tariff. Recommended!

Stayed here in October for one night as part of our trip. The weather wasn't brilliant during our stay, chilly and heavy rain. (This may have impacted our opinions) We had one of the garden rooms, whilst it was okay, there was no heating and because of this felt a little damp as well as being cold. There was an option of buffet and cooked breakfast which were perfectly fine. The best thing here are the staff, very friendly and entered into birthday celebrations for one of our group at breakfast, they also baked a very good chocolate cake!

We stayed here for three nights. Its hard to say why it's not amazing as when you look at the setting, the location and the building you feel it should be. Something is lacking in the service offered, the breakfast is fine but nothing special, everywhere else we stayed had so much choice on offer. The cleaner wanders through with her buckets and mop as we sit overlooking the pool. The honeymoon suite is fine but has seen better days, two minor maintenance issues, a broken chair, a plug that doesn't hold the sink water in the sink also there was a stale body odour on the cushions left on the bed. The towels and bedding are cheap and worn. I think that sets the tone for everything with the exception of the garden which is really beautiful. We have stayed in many guest houses in South Africa over the years and this is the only one that didn't have a fridge in the bedroom. We are vegetarian walkers and like to make a picnic for our walks plus I also like to freeze my water camelback. This isn't possible at this guest house as we can't put our picnic items in the tiny drinks fridge in the downstairs bar. We met a local guest house land lady on the beach who offered to show us some different walks if we called in. We asked to see her rooms, all half the price of Sandals and really beautiful with lovely bedding, towels and an attention to detail that wasn't evident in Sandals. Every single room also had a fridge. I don't like writing negative feedback as I always look for the best in things. However, I feel it would be insincere not to point out these easily rectified issues.Sandals garden is a beautiful oasis of peace and tranquillity, beautifully landscaped and a pleasure to sit in, sadly the guest house itself lags behind. It should be amazing as it certainly has plenty of potential. Some careful monitoring and this review would shoot from average to excellent.

Sorry to say very disappointing. Property looks great from the outside however it is sadly in need of investment to upgrade its standard. Gone are the days of old brown towels, dirty curtains, sticky dusty side lamps and generally a feel that it needs a good deep clean. The cushion on the chair in our room was grubby as was the floor, the bottom of my slippers were black. I hate being so negative but we have travelled all the way from Cape Town and the standard of hotels we stayed in were superb, this was a real let down. It would also have been so helpful if a sign was put up advising guests of the times of the load shedding so we could plan our day. Breakfast was ok but again some signage as to what the flavours of items were would be helpful. The garden is very nice but again the sunbeds are all weathered and some broken and the cushions disgusting. I know reviews are all relative and personal to individuals expectations but what we had experienced elsewhere for 4 star, this did not come close. Lastly we went to breakfast each morning with the intention of returning to our room to finish getting ready and collect our belongings to find in that short time our rooms have received housekeeping ? With all our personal items still on show, perhaps you need to wait until we have finished and gone out.

We stayed 2 nights at Sandals Guest House. The guest house is centrally located and some restaurants are within walking distance. Unfortunately although very near the sea there is no beach as it was washed away. Its 4 star rating is in our opinion over rated and 3 star is more accurate. The room was clean but basic and the bathroom needed updating. The outdoor furniture was very tired and the breakfast can only be described as adequate. Overall the guest house needs some TLC before it can be described as 4 star and justify its price tag.

Great 2 night stay - location is around 300m from the beach, which had life guards and great body boarding or the launch for swim out to the surf (great right hander). Only short walk other direction to shops, restaurants and a few bars! Lovely guest house, room had two separate sitting areas, plus indoor and outdoor shower - felt like we had a suite! One of the places to stay, quiet just away from hustle and bustle. Will go again.

The house is within walking distance to the sea and to the "center" me shops and restaurants. The garden with small pool and terrace invites you to relax.
Room and breakfast were ok, according to the description.
The service was good, restaurants and taxis were gladly booked.
We were there at the end of the South African school holidays, so parties were held at night in the numerous villas in the area. Ear opax helps at this time.

We booked a nights accommodation at Sandals Guest house when we came to visit friends in St Francis. The location is fine if you are into nightclubs, however we were not warned that a nightclub existed just 50m away. Needless to say sleep was non existent that night. Otherwise venue seems fine.

I need to stress that your comment re our "location and nightclub" is not correct. Please do not make comments on a public forum that are grossly untrue! There is no NIGHTCLUB 50m away, nor is there one even 100m away Alan. There are no NIGHTCLUBS at all. It was either the bar/restaurant with a band (expected over New Years holiday) or youngsters playing load music at a house nearby. It was the last few days after New Year in a town (just like Plettenburg Bay and others) where a lot of families / youngsters enjoy their party-like celebrations. Needless to say we are back to the quiet, peaceful, sleepy, serene St Francis Bay! Pity your ONE night was a bit noisy at this crazy time of year. Guess what? We even have visitors complaining that St Francis Bay is TOO QUIET or "not enough action or nightlife facilities"! One can never win!
