Hotel has slightly unusal format with small amount of rooms in fairly large area.
Room size was fantastic.
Staff brilliant to the extent of seeming to offer really warm, personal service.
Slight criticism is no real hotel bar, but location is good being near sea front and other bars and restaurants

We stayed here the fist night of our honeymoon as a stopover (to re-charge and relax) before going on to safari. Upon arrival, the place doesnt look much. It is set off of the main seafront road and set in amongst a residential area. This is what makes it even more bizarre and unique. One minute you are in the middle of flats/houses, (a very typical South African middle class housing area).....and then you stumble across The Windermere. It is probably one of the most unique hotels I have ever stayed in. From the minute we stepped in through the door, we were looked after. This may have been because it was winter time (despite the weather being perfectly sunny and warm) and it seemed as though we were the only couple there. The room was absolutly massive (the biggest room I have ever stayed in). There were 3 large sofas, all the 5 star little luxuries you could think of and a gorgeous little terrace/balcony (from which you can just see the sea). The bathrooms werent big, but had a gorgeous double shower with the whole range of moulton brown products to choose from. The hotel has a real homely feel about it, there is a small bar area but in the evening we choose to have our drinks in the 'living' area by the fire. Nothing was too much trouble and we were ordered to sit and our snacks and drinks were bought to us along with the scattered rose petals on the floor all around us to add to the already romantic scene.
The location is good (convenience wise) - literally 2 mins from the seafront and then into the centre of the small town where there is quite a good choice of local restaurants/bars. I would imagine in the summer the place would be thriving but it certainly wasnt in Winter. Still, we liked the feel of the place. It was perfect for its purpose, and we found ourselves wanting to stay longer as everything was so lovely it felt awful to leave after just one night. Breakfast was made to order and cooked to perfection and the staff were all very friendly and constantly helped in anyway they could. I would certainly recommend this hotel as a stopover (we flew in from J'Berg) as it has a perfect location to either start your drive along the garden route or head of to the Eastern Cape where there are a couple of good safaris (within an hour or so's drive).

One of our Favourite Hotels on our travels to South Africa.

Location. - Only 5/10 mins from PE Airport and a good starting/ finishing point if your doing the Garden route. Its in a nice part of PE, close to the beach (Safe for anyone who might be concerned about that). Theres not alot to do here though, so you'll probably wouldn't want to stay here for more than a night or 2.

Accomodation. Fantastic modern, large, very stylish. A truely great small boutique hotel.

Hospitality. Great staff, very friendly and helpful.

If only all hotels were this good.

This is not a 4 star boutique hotel. It's more likely a 2 star hotel with a lack of attention to detail and overall management. There was one gown and 1 set of towels in the room. We asked for a second set but after the room was cleaned these were removed. I suggest the following to be included in the room; hair dryer, bottled water in the fridge, adequate towels and gowns and a loadshedding timetable. My husband ordered an early breakfast but on the morning in question we were told that this information was not given to the morning staff. The room was clean and staff generally friendly but not an adequate degree of service.

What a pity that the Windermere is in PE. The place is excellent, stylish, enormous rooms and even bigger bathrooms, friendly and helpful hostess, but the location is not great.
Furhtermore, the planes and boats leaving or entering the harbour make a lot of noise.
In hte neigbourhood is an american-style casino+shops+ restaurants complex, but not authentic in any way.
But if you must fly the next day the Windermere is defintely a good place to stay.

We only booked here because my friend had an apartment close by and recommended it. We booked two suites (3 adults) and could not believe the size of the rooms and bathrooms, it was lovely. We could not fault it and Charlie was very helpful. We had to park our car in the street but they assured us it was safe. Would definitely stay here again.

Very nice property a block off the beach. However it seems to be right in the flight pattern of one of Pt Eliz airport runways, so occasional LOUD jet noise. Our heat/AC unit would not work when we closed the windows/doors; when reported to evening management, they checked it out and said they could do nothing until morning. Not even a fan could be located to cool off our room. In the am, when discussed w/front desk; noone knew anything about it not working in our premium room. Clearly local communication issues, and they didnt offer any compensation for our inconvenience. For such a nice place, it was very disappointing

We only stayed one night before starting down the Garden Route. On arrival we were greeted charmingly and shown to our room. WOW . Spacious is an understatement, and when was the last time you had under-floor heating in the bathroom? The location is great, just one block fro the foreshore, where there was a market selling everything.

We were at the Windermere hotel for only a nite and then a flight out.
The location was fine considering the time frame. We walked on the beach and around the area and to a small mall. The staff were lovely and suggested an international restaurant which was very good.
A big thanks to the staff for the coffee service upon our arrival, switching our room for better wifi, and making breakfast for us for out early departure.
We enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the Windemere for one night at the start of our honeymoon. It wasn’t far from the airport and it was a 2 minute walk from the sea front and about 15 from the boardwalk complex. It's a small hotel as it was a house years ago and is on a residential street.

There was secure off street parking at the back of the building. We arrived in the evening and received a warm welcome. The decor and layout of the building was quirky. We were taken straight to our room which was enormous (more like two rooms put together).

It was extremely spacious and very clean, likewise with the bathroom. We received a complimentary bottle of champagne for our honeymoon from the staff which was very nice. There is no proper bar or restaurant at the Windermere as they say they do not try and compete with the multitude of restaurants on the front. They did have a limited selection of light bites and snacks and drinks which was more than adequate for us after travelling.

Breakfast was enjoyable with a good menu and the staff were courteous and very helpful. We were glad we found the Windermere. It was very comfortable and we would definately recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, service and value for money and it’s just a little bit different.
