Part of our Gate 1 tour, we stayed one night at this hotel. The views were nice. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and so were the pillows were fluffy. The hotel was quiet. Breakfast was delicious.

Horrible staff. When I was a walk in once and wanted the buffet breakfast they said No! It's for our own guests they said. I've never set foot in that place again and as a travel agent I won't ever send people there.

On a recent trip to South Africa, as part of our tour we followed the Garden Route and required to have stop over before flying from Port Elizabeth airport to Johannesburg the next morning. This hotel provided a good stop and is well located for a nice walk along the harbour front (warning, do this in daylight hours as during darkness hours it does not feel particularly safe or inviting). On a room on the 9th floor we were afforded an amazing view of the harbour and Indian Ocean. The rooms are adequate sized, beds are comfortable and does what it say on the tin.

Allow me, dear readers, to embark on an exploration of the good, the better, and the could-be-better aspects of the Garden Court Kings Beach in lovely Cape Elizabeth. This is no tale of monumental wonder or extraordinary dismay; rather, it's a story of decent comfort with a side order of everyday convenience. Let's commence with an often underappreciated but crucial feature of any respectable lodging establishment – the vending machines in the lobby. Ah, the unsung heroes of the wee hours, ever ready to satiate your midnight munchies or quench your thirst. This humble amenity at the Garden Court Kings Beach stands out, not for the variety of snacks it dispenses, but more for what it doesn't. Among the cornucopia of late-night nibbles, one may find no...ahem... personal safety products of the latex kind. Remember, folks, always travel prepared! Slumber at this establishment proved to be quite the comfort. The bed, a fluffy cloud of tranquility, became the backdrop of nocturnal reveries. The enchanting damsel who checked us in morphed into a dreamland siren in the ethereal realm of my subconscious. All while the good lady wife, unknowingly, played a rather active role in these slumbers. A word to the wise – the beds here might just be a little too comfortable! The surroundings of the Garden Court Kings Beach, however, offer up a juxtaposition of delight and trepidation. Just a stone's throw away resides an oasis of fast-food paradise, the golden arches of a 24-hour McDonald's. A beacon of deep-fried joy, this round-the-clock gastronomic haven is the holy grail for nocturnal snack seekers. And yet, folks, I must admit to a hint of unease that mars the appeal of this otherwise tantalizing prospect. Venturing forth into the night for a Big Mac and fries seemed a bit daunting, an adventure best reserved for the brave-hearted. My taste buds yearned for a midnight McFlurry, but the heart, oh the heart, it fluttered like a frightened bird. Perhaps, dear readers, you possess a more valiant disposition to tackle these twilight quests. So, to round off this middling tale of accommodation appraisal, Garden Court Kings Beach presents a competent offering of comfort and convenience. A destination that wraps you in decent comfort, serves up 24-hour fast-food access (albeit with a side of night-time nerves), and a rather surprising vending machine inventory. It is good – perhaps not a resounding 'marvelous' but an affirming 'good' nonetheless. Whether that's enough to float your boat, well, that's a decision only you can make.

Hotel was ok on previous occasions. Service terrible in the restaurant downstairs. Bar lady unable to put together the most basic drinks. Servers adding bogus charges to bills ( several times). Hotel room seems clean but unfortunately I found a giant pair of dirty men’s underwear under my bed when packing up. Not what I was expecting. Not going back.

Dear Mustelus Thank you for taking the time to respond We will certainly take up your comments with the Mike's Kitchen Restaurant Management on our premises and ask for feedback on your comments regarding the poor service and the charges. As for the room we apologise for the poor delivery in standards and have asked our Housekeeping Team to take look into the specific issue relating to your room. This is certainly not the standard we pride ourselves, but appreciate your feedback so that we may strive to deliver the standards our guests expect of us. Kind Regards

The worst experience, will never stay here again, the rooms safe did not work and in this country that’s a must, no fridge in the room, went and asked at the reception for a bucket of ice, and Antony turned up with two small plastic cups and told me there was two ice machines, on 3 and 9 floor, the machines had been ripped out, …. On going back to Antony who had a slight smile on his face at my anger at wasting my time,,, I took matters into my own hand and went behind the bar at restaurant and took an ice bucket and then a. Very helpful young man got my ice,,, how hard is it to be nice to paying customers in this hotel, from the manor I was delt with by Antony at reception , with no respect or care, and frankly being horrible to a guest, I would advise nobody to ever stay at this hotel

Had a weekend away to Port elizabeth, must say the one thing that stands out for me was the level of service received from the time if check-in was exceptional. The staff was all extremely friendly and willing to assist at all times. The hotel it's self can do with more modern upgrades, I.e. t.v's, fridges in the rooms.

We were 2 adults in the room ND 1 child. They didn't bring us enough accessories. No fridge. Light flickered for 2 days until I went down and spoke to management 2 days in a row. Even Anthony said he would escalate.l at night. I still had to escalate myself the next day

Small basic rooms, not ideal for a family of 4, despite them being described as family rooms. Needs updating. Noisy in the evening and we could hear neighbours flushing toilet and chatting through walls. Air con not very effective. Breakfast ok, but nothing special.

If you going to stay longer than 1 night, do yourself a favour and book somewhere else. Because if it’s not bathtubs that fill up like a lake while showering, it’s the non existent choices of healthy warm food that you can eat since your choices are Nando’s and Mikes chicken only (imagine that for a month), it could even be a manager with no people skills lacking emotional intelligence, that doesn’t know how to handle a possible discrepancy by a booking agent while you the guest are doing everything according to the voucher given. Do we have to pay for people to assist us nowadays, should we be paying for more for flexibility and humanity. My biggest regret is thinking that the management here would be similar to other southern sun hotels, my goodness!!! Long stays + peace of mind = avoid this hotel.
