Firstly, I want to point out that we were pleasantly surprised with nicely modernised and well appointed flats. Everything was clean and functional.

However, there were some things that surprised us and which weren’t clear on the website.

Firstly, the restaurant closed last year and hasn’t reopened, so the only amenities are the pool and games room. Sadly, when we were there the games room was being set up for a meeting and it wasn’t a poolside kind of day, so that little extra was taken away without warning. Being in a one bed apartment meant there wasn’t exactly lots of space and the sofa wasn’t the most comfy to sit on. (Side note- the sofa bed might be great for young kids but definitely not suitable for adults).

The second thing the website doesn’t specify, wifi is only available in the area by reception/games room. There is no wifi in the units and mobile signal can be patchy.

The final thing I wanted to say. Pearl, at the main gate, was a joy to interact with. However, some of the team at main reception were a bit abrupt in their manner, not exactly the welcoming feeling.

Our double floor top unit with 3 bedrooms and three bathrooms overlooking the Piesang Valley was such a pleasant surprise. Newly refurbished to a high standard it really was a pleasure to spend a midweek break here. The bed linen is excellent, the towels new and fluffy, and the views from the floor to ceiling windows add to the enjoyment. The unit was spacious and the kitchen well equipped. The top patio is a little cramped but there is a second patio accessible from the bedroom floor. Castleton is a large development with expansive gardens but privacy has been ensured. The staff were helpful and welcoming and we would have no hesitation in returning.

If a relaxing time with family is what you enjoy then Castleton is for you and yours. We stayed in 2 beautiful apartments in a secure estate. Lots to keep the kids busy and the adults relaxing. The only down side was that in the kitchen there was no plastic containers so do take those with for ur preps and storage needs. Also there is only a weber braai so u can only use charcoal and no other braai facilities available which was not ideal but it worked, other than that it was an enjoyable relaxing weekend.

Stayed in unit 73b and was a great apartment for a short stay. A secure venue with security and lovely gardens in the Piesang Valley.
We were 4 people and found the place safe and neat with all amenities needed. Nice view from the balcony.

We stayed at Castleton in October last year in unit 18A and were extremely happy. From the beds, to the kitchen equipment, to the lounge furniture everything was top notch. All rooms had ceiling fans which in October was quite adequate. On that experience I booked into the resort again for a week in February. We got unit 34A. What a let down. No sign of a fan, never mind an air conditioner. I phoned reception straight away to see if we could swap units to be told nothing else was available by a very uninterested lady. I then took a walk to the other reception ( they have two) and spoke to a very pleasant lady who assured me she'd make a plan to try get us fans. The next morning when I went in to inquire if anything could be done I was told I was too early and that she'd phone me during the day. I'm still awaiting that call! In the meantime we were incredible hot and the beds all needs updating. Every morning we woke with very sore backs. In short, not all the units live up to their gold crown status and I'm not sure I'll return unless I could be guaranteed unit 18A. I don't know what the others are like but my experience this trip is vastly different from the previous one.

Castleton Resort is a gated community. I my wife & family visited Plettenberg Bay at the recommendation of friends and stayed in Unit 4a in Castleton. Furnished to a high standard, there was plenty of room for our party as the unit sleeps a maximum of 6 guests. It is situated overlooking the Piesang Valley with views of the Bay, the Robberg Peninsula, the Country Club with it's Golf course and Bowls and other facilities. The best views are from the upstairs veranda. Breathtaking !!
There is a fully fitted kitchen including Washing machine and Tumble drier.
The lounge (with large screen TV) and spacious dining area are ideal for relaxing after a busy day's pursuits. In the outside there is a BBQ on the covered patio and a large sundeck with table and seating for six guests.
In the upstairs There is a master bedroom with King size double bed & en-suite facilities, a second bedroom with kingsize double bed & a third bedroom with two single beds. Bedrooms 2 & 3 we were pleased to find share a luxurious shower bathroom.
The Master bedroom and bedroom 2 both access the upstairs veranda that is supplied with table and chairs from where we enjoyed sunsets with along our Sundowners.
The grounds in which 4a is set in are beautifully kept and blessed with many flowering shrubs, making it all in all a lovely setting.
In the resort there are Tennis courts and a swimming pool plus kiddies pool, games room & Mini Golf, complementing the excellent on-site restaurant and Bar. These catering for our needs when the car stayed in the shade of the carport.
This unit was serviced daily by cleaning staff. We found that Reception staff were happy to help with bookings for attractions in the local area and, with directions to local dining venues.
This area is superb with it's endless beaches for water sports and activities, whale watching, dolphins, sea Lions and many scenic walks. A marvellous place to escape from the hurly burly of city life and an absolute must for nature and wildlife lovers. We'd recommend Tenikwa animal rescue Centre and the Elephant Sanctuary at the Crags along with Birds of Eden.
We were blessed with a wonderful time and plan further visits.

I have stayed at Castleton on several occasions prior to my booking this year and have always enjoyed a peaceful, simple, straight forward stay in a basic but ideal self catering unit.

This year - I am not sure if it is because of new management - the staff were appalling. Refusing to even let guests finish a sentence. Basic questions such as could we leave luggage in reception whilst they prepared the unit for their inflexible check in time of strictly 3pm only - they flatly refused to even assist in this common resort request. Therefore we were forced for safety purposes to stay in the car driving around.

We were not informed of the wifi access on offer. On arrival you are presented with a 6 page list of financial penalties you are forced to accept.

We genuinely required and were looking forward to just quiet alone time, we did not require any other service from this facility besides arriving and leaving, both of which were turned into tense, aggressive and ultimately tearful events by the members of staff who were unwilling, and seemed to relish the power of inconveniencing "guests."

We found our unit, 95C, to be clean and perfectly suited to our self catering requirements. The view from the patio over the bay towards the Robberg Peninsula was spectacular. The unit faced away from the prevailing winds so the patio could be put to good use most of the time. The gardens, swimming pools, games room and tennis courts were expertly cared for and the resort is ideal for families with children. For those who don't want to cook or barbeque, there is a restaurant with a deck and a bar serving simple but tasty meals. Plettenberg Bay is central to almost every outdoor activity in the area as well as the spectacular beaches and unspoilt scenery of the Garden Route

We stayed for 4 nights. From the first moment we arrived all was just wonderful. Amazing view of plett and piesang valley. Units cleaned daily by housekeeping and so friendly staff. Was a bit disappointed by the mini golf course that was out of order. But all were very good and will definitely back in future.

We spend an amazing holiday in Plettenberg Bay and found the accommodation at Castleton could not have been better! From the amazing views across the valley to the sea, beautifully decorated apartment (we stayed at no.34A) and even your braai cleaned for you early the next morning, we could not have asked for more! The staff are very friendly and will help with planning your holiday excursions. We will definitely be back!
