We loved our 3 night stay at this fantastically located beautiful lodge. The location, set above a meander in a very attractive river valley, is excellent, and the individual lodges in which guests stay look out over this view. The individual lodges are very spacious, with big terraces; they are very well maintained. The central areas are full of character, full of interesting prints, photos and African artifacts. The owners and manager are present at breakfast, talk to guests about options for their day; extremely helpful. The breakfasts were excellent, with a great high quality and interesting buffet such that I didn’t always have a cooked breakfast. Dinner is also a great event, feels very African, and the food/ wine did not disappoint. Highly recommended and we hope to return.

We stayed for five days here and could have stayed another 5 without a problem. The whole experience was of unfussy, but wonderful South African Hospitality - great owners who were around a lot and interested, ready offer ideas, advice. Great staff who were cheerful and interested.
The view is gorgeous overlooking a World Heritage Site wetland, the rooms are beautifully designed, wonderfully private with all the needs you could want Beautiful bedding, linen, great art, thoughtful planning.

There are two pools - one a more public one near the restaurant and the second just for guests. They are not huge but deep enough and the residents one has a great view, not heated however.

The restaurant is very popular but as guests you get the best tables and your booking is arranged every morning with you if you require a meal that evening. Food was creative, fun and interesting. Some dishes were really gorgeous and there is a nice South African theme in some of the dishes. We ate at the restaurant 4 out of 5 days and there were minor variations each day - so you can chose and change. Breakfast here was wonderful, again with variations each day, wonderful fresh fruits, bread, cakes and of course cooked breakfast. Really could not fault EMR. It is slightly rustic and has a relaxed SA style but with artistic flair and a sense of high quality attention to detail.

The rooms and common areas here are gorgeous, and this was one of the most comfortable places we stayed during our trip across South Africa. The food is good— especially the pizza— and location terrific.

However, Emily Moon feels like it can’t quite decide if it’s a proper lodge or more of a busy local restaurant with some rooms in the back. The common areas, which are already quite small, were extremely crowded with large, loud groups of people, most of whom didn’t seem to be staying at the hotel. The service in the pizza bar was awful— we waited over an hour for one pizza (which was admittedly great.) On two occasions we came to sit at the pool/ bar areas and were told there was no space for us.

If Emily Moon wants to become a go-to destination on the Garden Route, it needs to invest in making guests feel more welcome and at home.

Wow, what a fantastic find that made our trip to South Africa alll that more special...

We arrived to be greeted by an extremely friendly team suited in a quirky and rustic reception area which was just a tease of what was due to come next.

We were shown to our suite which was immaculately presented with great taste and had an extremely private and large decking area which could be enjoyed in not only the bedroom but bathroom too, extremely well thought out design.

The common areas were idyllic and had so much charm, pools fantastic especially the hotel guest pool which was like walking to find a hidden gem.

The place had an extremely nice feel and everyone was warm and welcoming especially the owners of the property who advised us of some great trips during our stay.

The food was fabulous and we didn't want to eat anywhere else during our stay!

Already recommended to others and will certainly return when we visit Plett again!

This is a gem of a place. Fabulous tranquil location, private accommodation beautifully furnished and equipped to a high standard. Very very comfortable. I cannot see how anyone would be disappointed staying here apart from having to leave.
The owning family take a personal interest in their guests and are ever helpful with anything you need or advice on local attractions.
Only a handful of lodges which provide exclusive appeal but the restaurant is a destination in itself and gets very busy all the time. However it is large and has great atmosphere and fab views. Also if guests are the only diners it would be too quiet as you want some atmosphere and this delivers. The food and wine is wonderful. Adjacent is Simons Bar which provides just Pizzas and again is really popular especially on nights with live music.
There are two pools one for visiting day guests (great for kids while you have lunch alongside) and another for guests, private and away from the main public areas.
Would happily return just to do nothing!

On occasions words are not enough to express an experience. Emily Moon is a very special place with its location, quality of accommodation and food. The staff were so helpful and always greeted you with a smile and just couldn’t do enough for you.
Our suite overlooked the river and the view was extensive and stunning. Inside was so charming and very comfortably furnished with lots of personal touches for any type of traveller. Opening the curtains in the morning was like gazing out onto a nature programme as the outside was framed perfectly.
There was a choice of two restaurants: Simon’s Bar and Emily’s restaurant. The quality of the food in both was exquisite and was served with a smile. Simon’s Bar is more casual with pizzas to die for. Emily’s is more formal in choice but has a range of dishes all prepared with clear professionalism.
We had a two night stay and were disappointed to leave. It really is a place to stay and eat.

I booked to stay at this hotel but then covid happened and we were unable to travel to South Africa due to lockdowns in both countries. I contacted the hotel and they said that they would keep the money I had paid as a deposit until we were able to travel. Our other hotels had refunded us in full but assuming we would eventually travel there I didn't protest. We finally rebooked our trip but the hotel did not have availability on the night we had planned to stay in that location and so I asked if they would be able to refund the deposit given they could not provide accommodation. They agreed to this and after much back and forth I finally received some money from them, though when I looked at the amount it was half of what I was expecting. I emailed them to ask why and after chasing a few times they said it was due to bank fees (even though I confirmed with my bank they did not take any payment). When I questioned this, they did not reply so I had to chase multiple times and then finally got a curt email from someone saying they charged 15% admin. fee (for what I don't know), and the rest was bank fees which was 'my responsibility'. It still didn't make any sense so I asked for a copy of the bank transaction which was provided, along with a rude email about how they view the matter as closed and will not respond to any emails sent by me. I looked up the bank who completed the transaction and found out that their foreign currency fees are about 30% of the amount transacted. This in addition to their 15% admin fee has meant I have lost half my deposit. The full charges were at no point made clear to me, nor was I given a full explanation as to where all the money went. Why they could not refund the transaction on the original card and therefore have to pay no bank fees I do not know. It does not make sense that a hotel that presumably has many international customers is not set up to deal with them financially in a fair and straightforward way. Overall a very poor and rude customer service with terrible communication on the ridiculous and extravagant costs of refunding! International customers beware, if you have any issue of them you can kiss your money goodbye. We had hoped to stay with them on a future trip but that is definitely not going to happen now.

Four nights at Emily Moon and exploring Plettenberg Bay were perfect. Recommendations at breakfast on what to do and where to go were much appreciated. We couldn't believe how busy Emily's and Simon's Bar were in the evening - especially as it's a good few KMs outside the town. However the atmosphere and views along with the food were a significant pull.

The lodge was lovely. A private balcony looked out over the river and hill. Well equipped bathroom and spacious bedroom. We were asked each morning whether we wanted a table in the restaurant for dinner - and just as well as the place was very busy each evening we were there. Even when we'd made a mistake and said we weren't going to be eating they did find space for us at short notice.

We didn't get to use their Kayaks but we did spend some time down by the more private guest pool sat chilling.

A beautiful place. Highly recommended.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. It was stunning! We stayed in a suite overlooking the river, it was so spacious and luxurious. Upon arrival, we showed up to rose pedals sprinkled throughout the room and a bottle of sparkling wine. We had dinner at the restaurant one of the nights and it was the best dinner we've ever had! Cannot wait to come back!
