Southern Cross is a Colonial style home, tastefully decorated in the colours of sand, sea and sky. Five en-suite bedrooms open onto the verandah and sunny garden courtyard. The views of the bay and Tsitsikamma Mountains from the breakfast patio are magnificent and dolphins, whales and seals often complete the picture. Robberg beach can be reached directly from the house via a boardwalk and its 5 km of unbroken sand offers easy walking and jogging at low tide. The sound of the sea is always with you and in winter, when the Southern Right whales are in the bay, one can sometimes hear them blowing at night – it is a magical sound. The emphasis is on relaxed informality where heart-warming service is provided but not imposed. Your host Susie Ovenstone bring years of experience in the hospitality industry to a more private and intimate setting and they and their staff will do everything they can to ensure that visitors to Southern Cross leave with very pleasant memories.

Stayed 2 nights, I wish we could have stayed longer. This charming b and bis beautifully laid out, with lovely decor, places to sit and relax. Wendy who runs it is such a kind person who supplied us with info, delicious brekky, and (don’t ask) bin liners when needed. We couldn’t have stayed in a more wonderful place, highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed. Lastly the view over the beach is magnificent. They could not have done enough for us..

Southern Cross was a lovely, relaxed, home away from home. The property is on the beachfront in Plett and very good value for money considering the location. Wendy and Eunice were amazing and breakfasts were a real treat. We were perfectly located for exploring the area and for visiting some of Plett's finest restaurants. I cannot recommend "The Fat Fish" or the restaurant at "Barringtons Craft Brewery" enough. Hiking on Robberg Peninsula (a mere R60 entrance fee without a wild card) should also be a priority when staying in Plett. From the path, we saw 4 great white sharks circling the seal colony below us. Incredible!

Keren who handled our reservation was excellent and she earned one of the stars I allocate to this property in this review. Upon arrival I was wowed by the beautiful garden. The flowers and birds made me feel as if I am entering a tropical paradise. We stayed in the Deluxe King room. Our room was spacious and had a seating area, a desk, a cupboard and a king size bed. The room also had a coffee and tea station but no fridge. A communal fridge was available. The bathroom was spacious and when some maintenance was required during our stay Wendy attended to it immediately. The rooms face a central courtyard and therefore you need to close the shutters if you want to get dressed. The room can be quite dark once the shutters are closed. The guest house has various communal areas. A covered patio, a lounge, a breakfast area and the 'sunset nook' with sun loungers facing the ocean. An honesty bar is available. You might get to know some fellow guests while using the communal areas which is always interesting. Each morning Wendy prepared crepes which I only saw for a second since my husband loved them so much that he stole mine every morning. A hot breakfast is also served to order. The breakfast buffet included blueberry muffins, some cereals, fruit, yogurt and juice - no cheese. The garden setting is lovely. Other than the garden the highlight when staying at this property is the ability to enjoy beach views from the sun loungers positions at the edge of the garden. Spending time here early in the morning or on windy/cold days when the beach is not an option or at sunset is just fantastic.

I was taking a German guest on a tour of the Garden Route this week and checked in for two nights. On arrival we were met and greeted by Wendy who showed us to our rooms and explained everything about the property. The rooms were very clean and comfortable as was the lounge and dining area. Wendy made us an amazing breakfast on the patio each day and went out of her way to accommodate my guests vegan preferences. I can certainly recommend Southern Cross and will be back

This is a beautiful old colonial house with old unfortunately being the operative word. We arrived at the designated time but once we had hailed someone the manageress had to be called from where ever she was to let us in and show us to our rooms. Waited awhile for her to arrive. The rooms were clean, small and tired in their decor and the bath/shower room was in dire need of modernisation in all aspects, especially in light of the rate charged. The communal sitting areas are nice and the outdoor breakfast area was very pleasant with a super view of Robberg beach a stones throw away. The breakfast was goodish but it was restrictive if you required a cooked breakfast, for instance no sausages. There was little or no tourist information to hand and for example found it a chore to find taxi phone numbers as no one was available to assist you.

There are some really good things about this B and B. The view from the garden is spectacular and there is a communal room which is great when you are travelling with friends. Breakfast very tasty! The down side for us was that it is out of town and the manager wasn’t around or contactable when we would have appreciated just a bit of help ( for instance getting a taxi) The rooms are ok but a little cramped.

Second time we have stayed and we really enjoy the peacefulness of the area, not too far to get into town, provided you have a car. The room we had was small but most comfortable and extremely well appointed. Ensuite bathroom was fine and had everything that you needed in it. Had breakfast in the morning and that too was excellent. Wendy runs the Guesthouse and she does a good job. We look forward to returning one day in the not too distant future.

A lovely stay in old colonial style rooms and shared dining room. We booked 4 rooms for 3 families. Having 4 children aged between 5 and 13 between us we couldn't have been made more welcome by Wendy, the manageress, and her staff. We spent a pleasant afternoon boarding and when we returned Wendy even helped hose down the boards to clean off the sand as well as hanging up wet suits. All in all a great place for families with young children.

The location for this guest house is amazing. Great access to Robberg Beach ( the board walk that had been burned has been replaced) and probably to the nature reserve although we did not go this far. The rooms are nice but a bit tired and could do with updating. The common sitting areas are very nice and good if you want to be out of your room. Breakfast was good. We stayed just one night. Most of the other guests seemed on the older side. It would have been nice if we could have used the pool but it is just for the owners.
