Tranquil location. Swimming pool with recliners and bar area with a view were the salient positive features of our stay along with the proactive efficient service of the manager and his staff. Enjoyed having access to the free use of canoes en rute to the river. Our particular room was small and situated next to the dining area where we needed to close the curtains and windows to ensure privacy.

This is homely accommodation where you feel secure and looked after. It is on a secure golf course estate. The building itself is old and situated with a commanding outlook over the bay. About 5 minutes drive into plett. Breakfast is poor by south African standards but don't let that put you off. The most expensive rooms are best but you have to go into main building for WiFi access. Worth a 1 or 2 night stay. The beaches near by (keurboom strand) and nature's valley make this a must visit location.

I needed a last minute place to stay on an unplanned business trip, made the booking and was called within minutes asking if I needed anything special or out of the ordinary. They were extremely accommodating to our simple requests. The views and tranquility of the location would certainly lure me back with my family when I'm next in the area.

Beautiful location, view and Scenery. The facilities are clean and all the right ingredients to be a great B&B. The customer service was however extremely poor, very very bad services. We did not receive a proper invoice after payment. It was a few pen scribbles on a piece of paper. No breakfast was sat out (rusk and porridge) as promised, we had to ask for it! The kitchen and appliances are shared with the guests, some of our food went missing from the fridge. We think it might have been taken by accident by other guest. However, this was still an inconvenience and should be better managed by Whaling Station. Also, we had to continually inform the guards at the gate that we are staying at Whaling station, no tag was given to us... again this would have helped a great deal in customer service.

Our stay at Whaling Station was an amazing experience. The view is to die for and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Everything is in top condition, from the pool, to each room.
The breakfast is served with a smile and is delicious.
We will definitely be back.

Beautiful views and in a gorgeous setting, however the accommodation was the biggest let down. The rooms are dirty and do not offer what is mentioned in the brochure. We had no television or coffee and tea station in the room, as promised. The shower was large, but had no shower curtain and the large window facing the shower had a netting curtain, so there was zero privacy while showering. Not to mention the terrible water pressure. As our room was right off of the dining area, we were woken at 6:30 on a Sunday morning (after a late night) to the sound of banging cupboards, cutlery and the loud talking of the BnB staff. The owners were never to be seen, even after we expressed our disappointment.

The owners went out of their way to ensure we had comfortable and pleasant stay. Their staff are all professional and obviously well managed. The breakfasts are amazing and the beds supremely comfortable. We will most certainly stay here again and recommend it to any potential guests. The location is safe, secure and convenient for naturelovers and/or the keen golfer.

We booked this establishment directly on their Knightsbridge system. They took my card details online for a substantial deposit & received an e-mail confirmation. On trying to change the booking two weeks later we found to our horror the booking had been cancelled - Christmas / New Year week as they had taken a block booking. No notification of any cancellation. We received an apologetic response from the owner stating they were going all out to find us alternate accommodation . "never heard from them again!" Wont reply to e-mails & obviously have no intention of finding alternate accommodation. This was a momentous occasion for my family & I with air tickets & travel arrangements being booked way in advance. Disgraceful conduct.

I booked The Whaling Station with great enthusiasm as it looked rustic and quaint. Well situated on Goose Valley golf course, the situation was ideal for my husband and I as he would play golf and I would spa!

No no - this was a huge letdown. Both the photographs and description of amenities seriously oversell this property. We were first settled into a "rondawel" next to the kitchen, which looked grubby and run down. There was no satellite TV as indicated. Not even a TV set was to be found in this room. After enquiry was made we were told that although they were supposedly full, we could upgrade to a nicer family room "for free". Here again, the good impression made digitally was not present.

This property has potential that is so vast, any owner would chomp at the bit for an opportunity to run this gem and make it a roaring success

This owner was nowhere to be found, until we actually announced that we decided that we were not staying at all. The response was that none of the other guests seemed to have similar issues.

Taking the keys, she declared that she hoped we would find somewhere nice.

This to me is a classic case of ignorant management. The support staff are very kind, but clearly lack the training that hospitality businesses would require. Don't welcome your guests to the establishment while washing the car on the front lawn, don't leave guest queries unattended until said guest shows up at your own home doorstep and don't expect visitors to settle for watching satellite TV in the run down communal living room. Misrepresenting your establishment is a big no - I did not have the courage to go and see the spa.
