Great location and well designed interiors. What takes this place to a higher level are the staff. Welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Room well appointed, but My heart sunk when we were informed about a wedding during our stay. After voicing my concerns with the general manager MJ, we were moved (and upgraded) before the wedding for the rest of our stay - all handled with efficiency and smiles. Delicious breakfast and dinners, with everything at the standard you would expect. MJ really is a top class GM and appreciated his problem solving approach and chats when checking everything was going well with our trip. I would definitely return.

My husband and I needed some proper R&R and The Plettenberg ticked all the boxes and more. Such a peaceful and beautiful environment and outstanding views. We used the 2 x pools often and enjoyed drinking cocktails at the poolside. The service was impeccable. We thoroughly enjoyed the leisurely and delicious breakfast selection daily and the early morning walks on the beach prior. The proximity to beaches, restaurants and shops was very convenient. Special mention to MG, Wiida and Aldo for making us feel so at home. We left feeling so refreshed and will definitely be back hopefully very soon!

Lovely hotel. Rooms very spacious and lots of high quality amenities. Staff went out of their way to welcome us, provide us with things to do, and to accommodate our dietary requests (they have a separate vegan menu, which is excellent, though do take care as some dairy items did slip through). Breakfast was also very good, with a wide selection, and again, plenty of vegan items. Really happy about that. There was also a really personal touch from staff, with managers doing the rounds to ensure everything was top class. Location-wise, it’s lovely, and in a very secure residential area. Restaurants are all a very short uphill walk away (not sure why one reviewer suggested otherwise). Would love to return.

We, traveling as a couple with a 4-year old child, enjoyed our stay very much and can highly recommend staying here! The room (we stayed 2 nights but not in the main house) was well appointed, clean and had a little terrace. We enjoyed a wonderful Afternoon Tea on the day of arrival. The pool was heated and faced the ocean. The restaurant had great views and good food. The wine menu was great as well. The staff in general was very professional and welcoming. We especially appreciated the little things for our daughter: amenities and pens for her as well as a bathrobe in the room and a child menu in the restaurant. The adjoining beach is wonderful for taking a walk or to play in the sand. There are only two small things where we would see potential for improvement. The side building would need its own little reception. Every time we needed something (towels for the pool, a drink or an umbrella) we had to call the main building. The second thing would be to have umbrellas already stationed in the room.

very expensive hotel, service and food is sub standard, not special, rooms and tired, no effort made to create an experience. At best a 4 star hotel experience anywhere. They don’t deserve to do well. Hospitality should be about creating experiences, memorable nights away and food and drink experiences that last a lifetime.

Sea breathtaking view room, complimentary wine. Absolutely clean and a very good air conditioner. The hotel has got two swimming pools ( one heated). The beach is very near with quite a large restaurant with beautiful view. It’s a little town centre is 5 min walk but quite lovely, there are several shops and a little market where you can go for lunch to buy street food( very nice) All the big restaurants are quite far ( take a taxi) but the meals are great. The concierge was quite helpful to organise for us all restaurants and activities. We had a river trip, monkey and birds sanctuaries (super!)

Talking about over promise and underdeliver, the prices are 5 star luxury, service and food are at best 3 star, no effort what so ever is made for the guest experience, delayed at check in room not ready, booked in main house but tried to put us in the other building, clearly overwhelmed by the business levels, breakfast was ordinary limited choice and offering no WOW. Rooms were old and bartered needs a makeover. Living of there reputation of old.
