We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Aquavit (2 couples, same family). Ole and Linda were wonderful hosts, armed with lots of local knowledge and recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing, hiking etc. We were met with a warm welcome and the cordial hospitality continued throughout our stay. The service here was second to none, and staff Innocent and Zama were equally friendly and attentive. Thank you to all.
The guesthouse is very stylish, and you can tell that Ole and Linda have put their heart and soul into their home and business. The decor is luxurious but not overly fussy, rooms are ergonomic and well designed, interior design is complimented by an array of interesting art (much of which is painted by ole’s father), ornaments, interesting books, and collection pieces. The combined influence of African culture and nature, with Ole and Linda’s native Scandinavian and American background, make for a stylish yet eye catching living space. Very homely and contemporary.
The garden is beautiful, pool area lovely and the view of Plett is stunning. The delicious breakfast from the terrace, overlooking the coast is the perfect start to the day.
As well as a quality continental selection of fruits, cereals, condiments, pastries etc, Aquavit offered a tasty choice of hot breakfast- loved the chilli scrambled eggs with baby courgette, asparagus, crispy bacon and spicy herb crusted potato wedges. And Linda’s homemade orange and passion fruit cake!
Linda and Ole have 2 dogs, Zoe and Cody, both of whom are really well behaved and have lovely temperaments. If you are not ‘dog people’ then please don’t let that put you off-the dogs are kept out of guests’ way and in no way detract from this being a super place to stay.
The entire guesthouse was spotlessly clean, with excellent WiFi, powerful shower, quality bed linen, supply of ground cafetière coffee in room, along with nice touches of complimentary decanter of fortified wine, and, beach bag/beach towels for taking on day trip.
Location is excellent - plenty of eateries nearby (great meals at both Barrington’s and The Fat Fish), and provides a great base for exploring Robberg nature reserve, Storms River mouth, Tsitsikamma National park etc.
We had a great stay and highly recommend Aquavit. If you are thinking of booking, then just go for it!

Owen & Rachel, thank you for the glowing review! You guys were the best and parents, Clive & Christine, as well…It was only our pleasure to host you during the beginning of your holiday in South Africa. The weather was perfect and hoping your travels ahead, and your time in Kruger, are equally as pleasant. Keep well & safe! PS....tell Clive, the author of the books they were discussing is Tony Park

Aquavit was the last stop on our first trip to the beautiful country of South Africa and we couldn't have stayed in a more perfect place to end our holiday. Linda and Ole were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome and at home. Aquavit is a stunning property and it is beautifully designed and decorated. Our luxurious room was on the ground floor and opened up to the swimming pool; everything you could possibly need was included. The breakfasts cooked by Linda and Ole were divine and were a piece of art with so much attention to detail. I cannot recommend Aquavit highly enough; it is a wonderful place to relax in a homely, welcoming atmosphere.

Wow.

What a great place!

Where do we start?

Aquavit is a wonderful, stunningly decorated, small establishment, with five excellent and spacious rooms, great views and the most sensational breakfast. The Executive Chef and General Manager (Linda) provides high quality personal service and could not be more helpful.

However, Aquavit isn’t a hotel, but the lower floors of a stunning house. Whilst at first that may be off putting – as it was to us - it isn’t really a problem because each room is self-contained and very private, and the cheery greeting from Ole when you return is similar to what you might receive from a switched on receptionist.

The bathroom is great – a bath and super shower, the main room is spacious with a deck or private veranda with sun loungers next to a super clean pool. It has all the amenities, including hairdryers, heated towel rails and bathroom floor. There is even complimentary brandy and chocolates!

My only negative is that the TV needs upgrading, it’s well past its sell by date, otherwise, this was absolutely lovely.

A real find.

Quite a dichotomy in writing this review. On the one hand, I agree with the high 4/5 star rating by majority of past reviewers, on the other hand, it does not meet all the criteria for such a high rating. I enjoyed my stay there, well appointed, good breakfast, comfortable, etc. A top rating requires provision of all amenities , all top level; this this B&B has not provided it. It has no facilities for smokers. When I asked where I could smoke, my question was met with a shrug of shoulders and "too bad" attitude. I was exiled to the driveway, not a particularly pleasant spot and very windy, where I felt like a refugee. The Aquavit has a pleasant and well maintained garden where a small table and a seat could be placed in a corner, some way from the house. It would not upset or interfere with the well being of other guests. The exiling of smokers should be addressed as a matter of urgency. Whilst I am not an expert on air pollution, I am quite certain that the toxic air emanating from the very busy main road to Plettenberg Bay just below the B&B, produces much more harm than any smoking guest could achieve. It is unconscionable that a top rating aspiring establishment does not provide such a basic facility.

Dear Tim & Ruth, We just received your comments on your stay with us and the fact that you felt like a refugee on our property was a bit offensive. Our website, booking platforms including agents, have the policy that we are a non smoking environment, including a letter I sent to you at the time of booking and prior to your arrival; which we clearly stated and in accordance with the public South African smoking laws. All our guests who stay with us appreciate and respect this policy. You were not expelled or exiled to the drive area of the house as you say, which is in front of the establishment. The visitors that do wish to smoke, come with a clear understanding of where they can smoke at the time of their arrival and very much satisfied. We also have noticed that you posted an earlier TA post and were quite satisfied with everything 😊

We stayed at Aquavit for five days, 26th to 30th March.
The guest house is situated in a suburban area, a short walk from shops and restaurants and the sandy beach. Inside the guest house is stunning, designed by the owners. It is very well laid out with magnificent views across Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma Mountains.
All around the guest house are all sorts of nik naks, ornaments, pictures, interesting pieces of furniture brought from around the world to adorn Aquavit.
Now to the folks that own and run Aquavit, Ole & Linda. they are a lovely couple who make the stay at Aquavit a truly five star experience. From the moment we arrived we felt at home, we were looked after really well all the time we were there. It was a sad moment when we left.
The breakfast on offer is stunning in quality and variety. The cooked breakfast is a carefully crafted offering rather than a huge 'full English'. There's fruit, meats, freshly made cake, the list goes on.
Linda is lovely, ensuring everyone is happy. Whilst we were there we wanted to remember a dear friend who had passed one year previously, Linda helped us do this and make it something very special.
Ole is a great guy with a great, but dry, sense of humour. His contribution to the five star experience is essential, he looks after the wine collection! He pointed us in the direction of the best local restaurants and even took our laundry to the cleaners as a courtesy.
If you want a five star experience whilst staying in Plettenberg Bay, stay at Aquavit, you won't be disappointed.
If we're ever back in Plettenberg, this is where we'll stay.

If you're searching for an ideal place to stay in Plettenberg Bay, look no further! Aquavit Guest House is absolutely stunning. The views of the Bay cannot be beat, and Linda's breakfast is simply delicious. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and there is a lovely infinity pool in the back perfect for relaxing. Linda and Ole were terrific hosts. They gave us many suggestions of things to do, and personally arranged taxis for us each night in order to get to and from dinner safely. We hope to be back for another visit!!

We think it's about time we shared our thoughts on our favourite and 5* best guest house in the wester cape. We have stayed with Linda and Ole every year for our past trips to southern Africa. This five bedroomed guest house is outstanding in every way, from breakfasts to bedrooms with a sparkling infinity pool in a gorgeous verdant garden. The interiors are beautiful, you won't tire of looking at their art collections and family paintings. Breakfasts on the first floor terrace looking out to kerbooms bay and the mountains beyond is a bonus to go with the sumptuous food. You have to go yourselves and be wowed, Linda and Ole are definitely the best hosts to give you a memorable stay you won't be disappointed. We leave with heavy hearts but so happy tohave already booked for next year.

We stayed for four nights - a bit of a getaway from Cape Town - and loved this guesthouse. The room (no 3) was really comfortable and well thought out in all aspects. The guest spaces were beautiful and the addition of a lounge just for guests is very thoughtful. Breakfast was excellent. Tastewise and visually they were some of the best breakfasts I have enjoyed at any guesthouse/B&B. Hosts were just great and their two dogs were the icing on the cake. Adorable. Thanks, Linda and Ole for a great stay. We'll definitely recommend you.

Aquavit Guest House in Plettenberg Bay is luxurious perfection and offers welcoming and homey hospitality. Every little detail is cared for, from the beautiful designer furniture and furnishings to the plush bedding and bathrooms. Luxury for all your senses to indulge in, there is carefully curated artwork everywhere to enjoy.

Also, very generous sized built-in closets with plenty hangers (why do most accommodations only have 5 hangers?) and each guest room has a semi-private terrace with spectacular views over the bay.

In-room coffee and tea offerings and a carafe of digestif with chocolates for a night cap is all part of this amazing experience.
To top it, you get the most gracious hosts with impeccable taste and passion in all they do!

Hi, just saw your question on TA. Yes, you can walk to one of the most magnificent beaches which are on offer in Plett. We are up high with fantastic views, which means walking down is about 15 min. Walking up is a different story. Easy to drive and usually plenty of parking, around 5 min. tops. Then we have beaches about 5 min. drive which are also spectacular. You can see some from your balconies. Our main town is also a 10 min walk to Main Street, but our restaurants are 5-10 min drives by car or taxis, as we recommend our guests do not walk after dark. The best restaurants are not always close on the main street area. They are tucked here and there and we are most helpful in suggesting what you desire. If you are coming anywhere in Plett during the hig holiday season Nov-Feb, I suggest booking in advance. Hope this helped and see you in Plett! Regards, Linda
