Welcome to Amakaya Backpackers Travellers Accommodation, your 'home away from home.' Amakaya Backpackers is not perfect, however is a clean, friendly, homely place with hot showers (electric and gas), relaxed atmosphere and comfortable beds. Only a 300m walk to the shops, restaurants and bars Main Street and 800m from the popular Central Beach (beware of the steep uphill walk back that will certainly build up an appetite and thirst!). For the 'private' traveller or those who want some 'me' time, our range of double and twin private rooms (each with its own TV and fridge) and 2 sleeper private dorm is just what you need. For those who do not mind sharing we have a selection of standard and en-suite rooms that sleep 2, 4, and 6 guests respectively.

I can't understand where the people who have given bad reviews were staying!
The lady who booked us in at lunchtime and the guy who was there to greet us when we returned to our room later in the evening were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and even had aircon, tv and a bar fridge.
The communal kitchen is well stocked and there's a large fridge for use by the residents. Also nice comfy sofas in the communal living area.
Only downside was the aircon unit in our room which didn't seem to be working well as our room didn't seem to cool down very much.
If staying in Plett, we would definitely stay at Amakaya

Good stay over for a Tired body. Affordable and close Center of town. With Plettenberg Baai and surroundings areas this can be a good base camp.

Some of ammintities can be upgraded and some area needs a bit of touch up. But overall great stay. Will definitely look at staying longer next time...

This has truly been one of the best backpackers accommodations i have ever had the privilege of visiting. It is very well equipped and it's location could not be more perfect. It is within walking distance from the shopping centre and the property is just a whole homely vibe. I do however have two suggestion: It would be wonderful if there were to be a light operated by a switch in the back yard by the braai spot, the motion sensor lights made it really difficult for us to enjoy our braai. Secondly the beds will have to be replaced soon. it is run down and rather uncomfortable and it squeaks every time you move around in the bed. Other then that, it was a wonderful stay.

I've stayed in a number of backpackers around the world but this place was by far the worst!

When we arrived to check-in we were told that they double booked our beds and wanted to downgrade us as opposed to upgrading our room. Then we were told that our group will be split which meant that we would not spend the night on the same premises.

Because it is next to Plettenberg Bay's taxi rank, the people staying here for a night are not the usual "backpacker" crowd, but rather people staying for a night to catch an early morning bus (i.e. dodgy people).

There are much better backpackers to stay in Plettenberg Bay so I recommend NOT staying here.

Great team to work with - excellent service!! Our stay is very comfortable and I would recommend it to anyone. Great value for money.
They have interesting theme dinner evenings like 'braai night' which makes it unique and special.

I had the privilege of meeting Debbie. Truly never so welcomed and had the best experience staying at Amakaya with Debbie just adding that additional special touch. I arrived at Amakaya without notice inquiring for a one night stay before my drive to Jhb and I was assisted instantly, received a private room and information on anything I would need. Debbie knows the area extremely well and helped with any questions I had. Would definitely recommend.

Amakaya Backpackers & Apartments failed to provide us with a welcoming experience. Upon arrival, the reception staff showed little interest in assisting us, leaving us to figure out everything on our own. The room locks were particularly problematic, as their mechanisms were difficult to use and far from user-friendly. The staff's attitude was outright rude. Their messaging system was filled with unnecessarily long and complicated instructions, making it frustrating to find essential information, like Wi-Fi codes or instructions for the locks. Instead of being concise, they overwhelmed us with irrelevant details. The manager's tone in communications was also aggressive and disrespectful, which only worsened the situation. Our group booked five rooms, and the experience was marred by an excess of negative restrictions rather than useful guidelines. Overall, the unprofessional and discourteous staff contributed to a disappointing and frustrating stay. This was far from the enjoyable travel experience we had hoped for.

Hello pmwepu The same documentation that is sent to all guests was sent to you. The person who booked and received all the check-in information should have shared that information with your group. Regards Dave Swart

Great location. The place is neat and clean. The room is equipped with all the necessary items required for a overnight stay. The only problem we had was that no person was on duty at the time of check in, we struggled a bit to get into our room but managed eventually.

Wonderful long weekend stay with family in the Tradouw chalet. Enjoyed a family braai and sundowners, chatting in the common area/balcony area of the backpackers.
Very clean and a stones throw from the main road of town !! Thank you Dave !
