Since I was raised in East London, Grahamstown has always been a nice stop for my family since my brother studied at Rhodes. I used to stay at the old Vic, where the nightclub used to be at the bottom. After some ages, I decided to go to the Grahamstown Festival this year and was lucky to get place here. It was the perfect stay. It's a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg. Very clean rooms and very comfortable as well. Staff are warm and friendly as well and I will definitely be back next year

This older property is centrally located, close to everything in town. The hotel building is architecturally intriguing with a series of buildings having been cobbled together into one. It would benefit from a general redo and modernization. In my room, the bathroom was four steps down from the bedroom. The rooms appear to be dark and a bit gloomy, they would be more appealing if they were decorated in lighter hues. There is 24 hour security at the desk with cameras on the parking in front for your automobile. On a Saturday night in a college town, early in the month when people have money in their pockets, there is not a lot of quiet to be had. The room was offered at a 50 Rand discount without breakfast.

While I can't comment on the accommodation at the Vic, the music this evening with the Accoustic Cafe, and especially Anton Calitz, was absolutely amazing. The wine and great pizza was and optional extra.

Checked in with my Colleagues for two nights . I must say the outside of the Hotel is very deceiving as the rooms are great . Clean linen and bathrooms . They just need to work on the Television channels , i did speak to Don , the Manager and he assured me that they were working on it . On both nights we had supper @ Ginnos and the food was great , lovely staff too . The lady in the front was so helpful always asking us if we were ok . My friend says he can drive any day from Mthatha to Grahamstown just for the pizza .

I spent a night at the mews. The information leaflet says the water is not suitable for drinking and that a bottle of still water is in the room but there wasn't any. The bed was not comfortable. The tv reception was terrible and there was no sign of a remote in the room, and there was no Mnet as advertised. The only plus was that the front shop staff were very pleasant, and that the restaurant Gino's was good.

Great stay in May , staff very friendly , linen very clean . Only had problems with the TV channels but the manager managed to explain to us that is was a fault caused by load shedding of which it's understandable . The manager/short fat guy was very helpful with every inquiry i made he would help willingly . The Grandma at breakfast was great so was the food . Only encountered a problem with the gay receptionist not understanding what i was saying and also his way of speaking was with a loud tone which had aggression in it .

What homely place , did my booking via sleeping out . Got to Hotel Victoria the front house staff was amazing , they welcomed us and advised us of the two on-site restaurants and also breakfast area . Had a chance to meet the owner Anna and the old lady her mum who was doing breakfast with another very helpful chap who multitasks between the restaurant and the hotel . Clean linen and just amazing furniture , have love for antics . Overally this is a place to be , the rooms are also of reasonable rates . Room 13 , my room again when i come back.

Stayed there in February year 2015, was actually coming for the second time and my last visit last year(2014) was only for a week round about the same time I came to visit this year and everyone was friendly and welcoming I enjoyed myself. For the second time I stayed for 2 weeks and it was an unpleasant one(horrible), everyone's character started showing up like I couldn't believe when i saw my self crying because of an old white mahmah at Ginos who sworn at me when I was humbly asking for a cereal bowl, she said it straight to my ears that "I am not your slave" and said other nasty things, For me this was extremely racist and discriminative of her to say such things and wanted to check out that same day "Hellow" this is 25 years of democracy now, white people do serve black people so just deal with it madam. Don is the only person full of brains there, the rest is full of sands thats all i can say. My friendly advise is that one shouldn't stay longer than a week, three days is long enough.. FYI: there is something called "Racial Descrimination Act" (perusal).!

Stayed in February over Rhodes orientation week. The hotel was fullly booked but the staff managed to accomodate me. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Wi fi was free, and the staff at the hotel helped me with all my questions about my son staying at Rhodes, and assisting me with all the necessary arrangements. I even got a lift in a great car when we took my son to Res. Small hotel, but friendly and gives you a sense of being at home and no question is to big or small for them to help you out. All the staff were very friendly and the pizzas were the best i have had at Ginos . Breakfast was a treat too,fun and laughter from the close knit staff there. i did notice that they are busy renovating as there a new windows in the hotel, and new lighting etc. I just want to Say to Don and his team keep up the good work.I will defenitaly stay there when i visit my son.
