My family recently visisted Chappies Cushion where we enjoyed the excellent service, relaxing environment and friendly staff. The facilities are good lots for the kids to do and the Spa treatements fantastic.

The food is really good and they also have braai facilities available. On the whole it is a great value for money and perfectly situated between Grahamstown and Port Alfred.

I would recommend a visit to Chappies anytime

My time spent at Chappys resort has surely got to go down as one for the books. From the friendly and competent receipt I experienced from staff to the deliciously prepared meals and exotic cocktails left very little to be desired.

Chappys boasts a wide range of activities which caters to each and every individual. I was converted into a keen horse riding enthusiast in a matter of days. For those who are less adventurous you could spend your days being pampered by enjoying deep body massages, facials , Target shooting and archery are but a few of the other activities one can engage in whilst spending time at this incredible spa.

I am very critical about the type of places I go to unwind however Chappys is one little piece of heaven on earth I would frequent and encourage anyone to visit.

I would rate Chappys a ten on the richter scale because it truly rocked my world !Nicole

Thank you to Gary and staff for a warm welcome and a wonderful stay at Chappys Cushion. My family of 6 stayed here from the 06th to the 09th of February 2015 as we had to leave my daughter at Rhodes University. Gary (the owner) dined with us and entertained us until late hours...Friendly staff, beautiful pool area, stunning spa, peaceful surroundings, breathtaking views. we would definitely go back to Chappys Cushion when we visit my daughter at Rhodes. Gary, thank you for your wonderful personality and the never ending conversations, for being so helpful and polite and friendly, we are very humbled. we will be back soon - I owe you a curry lol. u guys ROCK!!

My husband and I booked to stay at Chappy's Cushion for the period of the Grahamstown Festival, along with my sister-in-law and niece. We paid the full price before we arrived. Whilst we were travelling to Chappy's Cushion, we received a call from my sister-in-law, who had already arrived. She had been told that there was no accommodation for us due to an alleged 'burst geyser' (this affected the entire hotel????). They alleged that they sent an e-mail and sms, which we most definitely did not receive. To cut a long story short, they arranged accommodation for us in Port Alfred at a lesser priced though comfortable place. This was a huge inconvenience because it was further away from Grahamstown, plus they messed up the booking days. It also was certainly not a spa or game lodge. Chappy's Cushion profited from this exchange to the value of R3,800 and they have not returned our money. When we left the alternative accommodation in Port Alfred, they had also not paid the owner of the lodge for our accommodation. Whilst my sister-in-law was at the lodge, a large party arrived who had also paid in advance, and were turned away. If you decide to stay at this badly run organisation, I would suggest that you do not pay one cent in advance - you might never see your money again.

Wonderfully treated, well received by staff and management. Most beautifully scenic surrounds and great game viewing. Great hiking trails and a lovely Spa! The bar is fully stocked with local as well as international spirits and wines. I had opportunity to do a spot of hunting but got caught up with other activities so this I will tackle on my return.

Chappy's Cushion has always been the "IT" place for me, whether it be with friends, alone or with my partner. I have been there on numerous occasions and always get more than expected. They offer great service, the staff are very friendly and cater to individual needs of the guest The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The environment has a calming effect and the scenery is blissful. I remember my last trip there was a few months ago, I was about 4 months pregnant and thought Id take my fiance there for his 30th birthday and just spend some quality time away from the city and all the buzz and hype. Upon our arrival we were taken to beautiful suite with rose petals on the bed, a bunch of roses and some champagne, they also went the extra mile to bake a cake for us :-). Well done to the Owner, Gary for the great experience. Hilda Odora

My wife and I stayed here in April 14 during grad week at Rhodes. We had a most enjoyable stay and were welcomed by the friendly owners and helpful, well trained staff. The rooms are comfortable and the surrounds pleasant.

Definitely will consider returning here.

We made a booking at Chappys Cushion in May/June 2017 for 88 people. A mixture for dorm rooms, private rooms and family rooms. We were advised that full payment need to be done by 1 August in order to confirm the booking. An amount of over R130 000.
Some other people also made additional bookings for the same dates and also made full payments.
On arrival at the facility on Saturday 30 September we were SHOCKED!!! The 2x private rooms was ONE dome tent pitched in the dorm BATHROOM. The family rooms was beds tucked into nothing more than a store room – R6000 for 5 nights/4 people. Oh, and the money was paid, but no booking was entered on their so-called booking system. The mattresses were dirty and torn. We had about 60 beds for 88 people – and those were mostly broken. One teacher had to sleep on a broken bed OUTSIDE!!! Because there was not space for him. Most had to sleep on the despicable mattresses on the floor. Dinner was canned pickled fish on rice. We drove 40km to Port Alfred to buy Wimpy burgers for the children. We had no choice but to stay the night at this horrible place as no other accommodation was available at short notice for 88 people. Breakfast was even worse – grated polony on hot dog rolls.
There were ONLY 5 toilets, they ALL leaked and 3 showers, that you either freezed in or burnt – the water ran dry after about 20 showers. No self catering equipment that was provided. The terrain itself is unkept – no garden or shade at all!! No road to the terrain. It’s like an unfinished building dropped in the middle of a cattle field.
We tried to get hold of the manager, but he never answered our calls, sms’s of whatsapps. He just “disappeared”. Our last resort was to lodge a complaint at the local police (opened a fraud case) and the local tourism board.
Don’t TRUST this property. The property are NOTHING as shown in the gallery of their website.

DISGRACE!!!!

Response from chappys_cushion, Manager at Chappys Cushion Game Lodge & Wellness Spa
Responded 02 Nov 2017
We are saddened by the misdirected defamatory allegations, the truth is we were approached by the Eastern Cape division of the national youth show to provide them with accommodation for the different provinces attending , they inspected the property and it was agreed that all girls with their educators from all different provinces will sleep in one section and all boys with their educators would do the same, if this was not communicated by them to the different provinces then we cannot be held liable as we have provided what was agreed on months in advance. What happened when these groups started arriving they refused to share stating that their belongings went missing when they shared at the previous gathering and when they were reminded about the sharing arrangement they started facially abusing staff calling them the K word; we had to call the police and the armed response. The manager had to be rushed to hospital; i have never seen such barbaric behavior. The situation was later defused and only one province group moved out, all other groups apologized and enjoyed their stay further and there was no complaints as they accepted the sharing arrangements, with regard to meals we never received any complaints from any of the provinces or their delegates, it’s the first time we hearing about tin fish on rice all our meals were served to standard, prepared in a hygienic manner. The allegation that the grounds and garden are not maintained is untrue as our frequent guests have dubbed the place Natures Pillow of Peace. We have consulted our attorney and are considering our options.

Beautiful setting and the property has huge pontential, more than you'd expect for the price, but is in desperate need of proper service, management and staff training. The stay was ruined by poor service as follows: booking procedure was a complete mess - they lost my booking after it was confirmd; not enough towels, glasses or coffee cups in the room for all four people (1 or 2 of each item), the shower pressure doesn't work properly and do not take the breakfast option - they did not have any bacon, instead serving chopped sausage, and not enough egg for everyone, despite us giving them 1 week warning that we'd all be having breakfast.

With proper service the place would be amazing at the cheap price! The building, pool and views are great!
