We had an overnight stay (business trip) and 3 of us booked 3 seperate rooms . The staff were amazing , the rooms were clean, spacious and luxurious. The lounge and honesty bar was a real touch and a big fire going in the lounge throughout the evening was perfect for the chilly evening we were experiencing. A full english breakfast is included in the package and secure off str parking and beautiful back gardens with firepit just made it worth every cent! Will most certainly be back

Most pleasant stay at the Milner. Staff very friendly and very helpful. Enjoyable breakfast. Will definitely stay there again if I need to be in Grahamstown again . Room was very comfortable and with a little kitchen you dont need to spend a fortune on takeout all the time. I also found The Milner to be very central to the 2 venues I needed to visit while I was in town

The Milner is always our first option when we have to stay in Grahamstown, and it has consistently welcomed our family with its exceptional service, immaculately clean rooms, warm and delightful setting and welcoming staff. It has become our second home and we always look forward to our next visit every single time we leave. The Milner guarantees you the most peaceful sleep in the most tranquil environment, with spacious rooms and tasty breakfast. We love the guesthouse and always feel very comfortable and welcomed by the hostess, Linda.

There is no doubt the place looks luxurious from the outside, and indeed the interior, both in terms of the lounge and the bedrooms, look luxury. However they didn’t seem to understand luxury should extent to service. Robotic welcome at check in with no personal niceties. Breakfast was a poor experience both in terms of the service eg asking them to turn the coffee machine on, requesting extra toast, and actually the content was barely ok. WiFi signal was weak. Not even a did you have a nice stay or have a good day when we checked out. However I judge any organisation on how they respond when something goes wrong. Load shedding seem to have taken them a surprise albeit they don’t seem to have checked online whether it was due to happen. So at 9pm our room plunged into darkness. Thank goodness we had a torch on our phone so we were able to locate one small lamp. Not sufficient for our suite. Bearing in mind we were the only customers in the hotel that night, I would have expected the hotel staff to come rushing with some more lighting. No we had to phone and wait for them to answer and then eventually come round with some more lights. What they didn’t mention was no electricity no water. In summary, hotel need to look up the definition of luxury before they call themselves luxurious

Dear AndyP Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. We are sadden to hear we did not live up to your expectations. We agree there were definitely moments when we dropped the ball and situations could have been handled better. While we here in South Africa have became accustom to load shedding we need to remain vigilant and aware of guests needs and as management we will spend time training the staff to handle it better. We do not always get much warning however this is no excuse and going forward a procedure will be put in place for when we experience load shedding. Over the years we have become known for our warm and friendly hospitality and guests have often describe The Milner "as their home away from home", owners are personally address the welcome you received as this is not our standard of service. Again I would like to apologise and reassure you that we take this point very seriously and should you ever find yourself back in the Grahamstown area we would love to have you back and show you a truly wonderful stay. Warm Regards Tania Louw

The garden room we booked was not available due to maintenance. We were offered a room in the house. The first room we were shown was very dingy, the second room although enormous was still rather dingy and the bathroom had a clear glass door with no blind opposite the toilet. However the breakfast was fantastic with great choice and fresh fruit. Staff were pleasant who gave us a good recommendation for a light supper.

I stayed here on a whirlwind business trip to Grahamstown. As it was my first time here I was not sure what to expect but much to my suprise when I arrived I was blown away.

Manager was friendly and welcoming. We had pre-ordered dinner which was spot on.

We had an early breakfast and were off again. Pool looked inviting but had no time to relax and enjoy.

Will recommend The Milner to anyone needing accommodation in Grahamstown whether business or leisure.

I was thrilled with my stay at The Milner and felt it was definitely good value for the money paid. The property is beautiful and well situated with quality furnishings and amenities. The staff is very hospitable and obliging (albeit a bit noisy at times) and I felt well looked after and comfortable.

We booked the Milner as a stopover, rather than a destination. We were surprised and delighted by our stay. Great place, but especially great staff - they could not do enough for us.

The Hotel is close to town, but quiet and great stars at night

A place to linger next time
