Overlooking the site where the Nahoon River meets the warm Indian Ocean, the Blue Lagoon lies nestled in indigenous, sub-tropical foliage. Easily accessible and close to central East London and inland areas, the hotel offers tranquility and seclusion from the bustle of city life. Our hotel offers a delightful blend of stylish garden facing hotel rooms or modern luxury two bedroom lagoon facing suites (self catering available), with easy access to the river and beaches. Self catering suites are also available. The Blue Lagoon offers the Highlander Restaurant, which is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Highlander Restaurant has an enviable reputation of excellent wines, food that roars with flavor and service that whispers. Our Highlander Bar and Cocktail Lounge, overlooking the picturesque Nahoon river, against the river bank, makes this the perfect setting for sun downers.

I spent 5 days at the hotel. I was extremely impressed at how spacious and clean the room was. Our apartment had a shower and tub which was helpful as we have a child. The room was cleaned on time every day. I was able to cook for two days, the kitchen had all utensils (except for sharp knives to cut meat). The hotel is also situated in close proximity to grocery store so that we were able to get grocery items relatively quickly. The nature surrounding the room is amazing, from the view of the stunning lagoon to the dassies and birds. We enjoyed the breakfast as well. The only critique I have for the breakfast is that they should have more options for those that do not eat beef/pork (there was a fish option but I think a chicken or lamb sausage option would be great). My child also enjoyed the pool, there was a kids pool and a pool for adults which was clean and spacious. Hope to be back soon.

The service was excellent. I just wish we were given a room with a Sea view. We requested our breakfast to be delivered to our room and it was great, they did not leave anything behind. I also appreciated how they managed noise by asking guests to stay indoors after 10pm and not stay on the Balcony.

The hotel is in an awesome location, right next to the beach. The breakfast is good as well. Staff is friendly. Mattress was comfortable. Outside of that, everything else is just ok. Rooms are in a desperate need of updating. Lack of electrical outlets - anywhere accessible. Shower was small and water sprayed in several directions. Furniture was outdated and not comfortable. Poor overall lighting.

Fire Thuto. He’s an absolutely incompetent hotel manager. I had made prior arrangements for my guests to check in early if possible as they had travelled from Johannesburg on a flight landing at 8AM. I requested several days prior to check in, a day before our stay I physically went to the reception to confirm. Nevertheless, I understand that an early check in is subject to availability. Even after all the requests for an earlier check in, our rooms were still not ready at 14:30 on the day of check in when we arrived. Thuto the manager promised he would try and resolve this urgently, we should wait at the restaurant/ bar in the interim, didn’t even offer us a bottle of water or coffee for the inconvenience. Two hours later (16:30) I went back to reception, to find a packed hotel reception area, with several other disgruntled guests about their rooms not being ready. Thuto who had assured me he would personally notify us when our rooms were ready, was instead busy checking in other guests, yet we had been waiting for 2.5 hours past the check in time that we had paid for (14:00). Thuto still did nothing to remedy this situation, telling us that guests of the previous day were refusing to vacate the rooms and that they were experiencing problems with house keeping staff. What particularly annoyed us is for him to say “it’s not my fault, what do you want me to do?” As a manager of a supposedly reputable hotel establishment, how do you utter such words, when you are two hours late with getting guests rooms ready? The hotel staff then went further and had the nerve to vacate my partner out of the room we slept in shortly before 11:00 on the day of check-out, something they evidently do not generally practice, otherwise we wouldn’t have had such a nonsensical check in experience. Poor management at this hotel.

When booking, we chose sea view room and paid extra for this. However we got river view and no sea view. When we complained we were told all rooms were like this and that this was a sea view room, even if they agreed there was no sea view. We were offered another room which was dark and unpleasant with a tiny little bit of sea view, but still 90% river view. We did not accept this offer, and asked to speak to management. The lady was very arrogant and said the room we got was a sea view room and they had no other rooms with any view of the sea, only river. So why do you advertise sea view and charge extra for it, I asked. She just shrugged her shoulder's and said well that’s just how we do it. We felt cheated and fooled and very badly treated. And I would like to warn others about this. We also noted that our neighbor room had a sea view, so they probably sold the room we paid for to someone else and fooled us. Really sad that they do not have any better respect for their customers and this is all down to bad management. The staff were nice and friendly but the management terrible.

Very noisy parties in the parking area in front of my room. The people come from the hotel's bar then they party and play music in front of the rooms that aren't facing the ocean, the managers don't do anything about it and neither do the security. People break bottles, play loud music, scream and shout and drink, it is so loud that it feels like they are in my room with me, i could not sleep until 4am when they finally left. Although we are in a pandemic there is no social distancing in the bar/restaurant as they seem to try and fill it up to the maximum and them allow even more people to enter and do not enforce people to wear their masks and so it seems like this is a hot spot for Covid-19.
The only good thing about this place is that the staff are very friendly and hard working.
The management and security need to up their game.
If you value sleep and relaxation I would not recommend this place for you.

I have experienced better and more consistent service delivery from 3 star hotels. The hotel has a fantastic location however the quality of the linen, bedding and bathroom towels was poor. The quality and variety of the breakfast offering was not up to scratch. There are long waiting times, at breakfast, to get a clean table, clean glasses and crockery (table turn around is close to nonexistent).

This hotel is patronised by large groups of people who are loud and boisterous. You cannot be assured of a peaceful stay. I complained to the reception at 1 am in the morning because of singing and laughing near our room. This is apparently a common complaint and met a fellow guest with same issues.

The hotel dumps it's used bottles at a holding area next to the main building. This is a loud noise and continuous throughout the night much to one's annoyance.
The bedroom is large and well furnished. The bathroom however lacks shelving and hanging space
The TV picture was of bad quality and the resident technician was unable to rectify it.

The hotel does not live up to a 4 star rating and value for money is poor.

If you value family time during the Night, then this place is not made for you, if you are on a business trip on a weekend , then this place is not made for you, If you dislike you private space and enjoy drunk people on your doorstep, Blue Lagoon is your valley!
The place somehow makes their income from Drunks at the nightclub staying over at the rooms. Shouting and screaming is something your children have to get use to... If you like to phone front desk for assistance and nothing happens.... then Blue lagoon is the place for you. If you dislike your parents in Law and need a place to stay, then Blue Lagoon is the place for you.
The Staff is Nice and the Breakfast is Deliscious, best time is when all the Drunks are still asleep. Go around 7am - 8am
