Be prepared to relax in a serene environment. Be prepared to experience a genuine warm welcome, from Graham the General Manager through to Aycona the Riverside Lodge man of many talents.

Be prepared for a truly enjoyable and educational game drive experience with Cameron. There are no Lion, but the game drive was filled with so many animals, birds and plants to see and learn about - the time just flew by.

Be prepared for delicious meals that are not fancy, but homemade with care.

Clean spacious and comfortable rooms with wilderness views and wild game walking close by whilst you relax under the thatched eaves. This place is Peaceful and so very quiet.

There is basically zero phone signal, but the WiFi works perfectly and there is back up power when loadshedding strikes.

The Couples Retreat was great value for money and a wonderful experience, that we will be enjoying again as soon as possible.

The service we experienced was of the highest quality. Every member of the staff gave superlative attention to detail. The quality of the food was of the highest order. The room was perfectly clean and oh so big. There is no air-conditioning but the fan was very efficient. If you need to wind down the serenity of this place is just what you need.

While we didn’t stay at the facility, we drove from Cinsta to view the animals on a safari. While they claim to have buffalo, elephants and giraffes, we saw none of the above. I’m skeptical after our experience that they have those animals on the property at all. Better off going to a reserve further away if elephants is what you are looking to see. Very disappointed in what we saw while there. They talked to us a lot about the plants on the property and have some plants GPS tagged…here’s an idea, GPS tag your animals if they are really on the property. People don’t come there to see plants.

The bedroom furniture was not up to standard, the draw was broke, the draws had no handles to pull them out, the service was not what we expected for a four star hotel, meal were either in one or the other restaurant. we were told one restaurant, then when we came back it was in the other, about 1km away. We complained as to how were being treated, only to be threatened by the manager, and told to leave, or he would knock my lights out. The web advertised laundry service, this was not the case, but in there defence they did arrange for this to be done, but the ironing was to be somewhat desired. Would not recommend a stay, but the game drive by exceptional, the guide we had was a person called Thomas, would fully recommend any one who is going on the drive, to ask for him.

We spent 4 nights in a "luxury" chalet at The River Lodge at Mpongo over CHristmas in 2011. Let me start with the positives: Our game drive (complimentary) was fantastic and Joe Barnard our guide was on par with the best we have encountered at places such as Mala Mala and Shamwari. The natural beauty of Mpongo is very special. The staff were all absolutely amazing.

HOWEVER, luxurious it is unfortunately not. Luxury thatch hotels and lodges do not:
Have bed linen that do not fit the beds.
Have chipped and cracked crockery and glasses in the restaurant.
Smell of bat poo etc.
Have beds covered in ear wigs (not joking - at least over 100) Thank goodness I had a can of Doom insect spray!
Have spiders webs and spiders that are clearly older than a few days.
Have months of dirt under the beds and on top of the cupboards. (Still there even though pointed out to the wide-eyed cleaning staff - they are in any case not to be blamed because management certainly did not train them - that was as clear as daylight).
No aircons.
Crappy meals - honestly - it was a grim reminder of boarding school many years ago. The quality of the meals were shocking for the star rating of the place.
Take your own mosquito nets with rope and put it up unless you want the bats and spiders etc to wake you up in the night. We went and bought some in East London after being unable to sleep the first night. That bat and the spiders was too much even for outdoor types like us.
Leaking roof.

Mpongo was therefore a BIG let down - it should be an amazing place, but someone needs to inspect the rooms/chalets etc honestly and properly and kick some butt. There is clearly a lack of training and strict supervision (or maybe it is purely a lack budget?)

One of the stops on our recent trip to SA was Mpongo. We enjoyed the surroundings, the beautiful and tastefully decorated rooms, nice atmosphere, good food, but above all the great staff. You made our stay wonderful. Thanks again, HJ and Werner (Leiden/The Netherlands)

The Mpongo restaurant overlooking the Hippo pool was an inspired selection for Sunday Lunch. The selection for the price was excellent and the Staff super efficient and friendly. You can either go on a self drive through the reserve or take a Game Vehicle with a Ranger. Thomas our Ranger was fantastic and his depth of knowledge was what made the trip. We learned a lot about the Flora and Fauna. It was sad to hear about the poaching of the last Rhino a few weeks ago. Such cruelty.

Amazing reserve just out the city, great for kids with the farm animals and feeding the giraffe, lovely to eat dinner and breakfast watching hippo's and visiting the lion, and also to drive around the game reserve. Room was comfy, spacious and jacuzzi bath was a great bonus

We were taken to Mpongo by froends that live in a East London as ws had nlt managed to visit any other Game Reserve whilst we were in Sputh Africa. We booked lunch follpwed by an escorted drive. The food was excellent and our guide showed us a variety of animals including Rhino, Giraffe, Zebra, Ostrich, Impala, Wildibeast,
Springbok. We were sad not to have seen Elephant. Whilst not huge, we got to feel we were in the real bush. We felt that we got very good value. Thanks to the staff for a very warm welcome.

Dear Zimkhitha, apologies for the late reply but your question seems to have slipped past us. In terms of your question: are you wanting to know how many people we can accommodate for a conference, event or accommodation? If accommodation then between the River and Huberta lodges we can accomodate 46 people sharing, for conferences and events we would want to understand your needs better in order to specify our capacity. Kind regards, Rodney
