This hotel was a former palace and is in an enviable position alongside the cathedral. In the hotel, the corridors are wide and the rooms and bathrooms are a good size. T However, the bathrooms are dated, the showers though big, have sticking doors, the sink had a huge crack in it and the toilets, though I am of average height are very high. The view was into a well with huge pipes running up and across it and a somewhat scruffy base area. The beds are comfortable and clean and the place, at least the two nights we were there, was quiet. The breakfasts are a bit disappointing, the hot food, eggs, bacon, mushrooms and sausages were decidedly on the cold side, one morning worse than the other. Parking is a big problem in Avila, if you can find a space inside the city walls it is very expensive. We found a free place with plenty of parking outside the city walls, beside the local police station but a good half mile from the hotel.

Small but clean room. We did ask for a double bed but were given a twin room so pushed the beds together and arranged the mattresses cross-wise. Bonus was a small fridge. The room had a view of the cathedral, surprisingly wasn't noisy. Breakfast (included in price) was continental with a few hot selections e.g. scrambled eggs. The main attraction was, of course, the location, bang in the middle of Avila!

Yet another good hotel in Ávila. Clean, comfortable and accessible. We didn’t have breakfast. Bed very comfortable with extra pillows. Shower great with lovely big towels. Decoration interesting and original and the building is amazing. Beautiful lounge area near reception.

Right next to the Cathedral in the heart of the walled city of Avila. Hotel is in a lovely old building with lots of period features. Rooms are fine, breakfast offers plenty of choice. Great base for exploring the city.

We felt that it was worth paying the extra for a cathedral view. We enjoyed looking into the square and at the main entrance to the cathedral. Historically the exterior of the palacio is intake, but internally very little of the original palacio remains. In fact some of the originally timbers can be seen in the museum. Reception and the public rooms are impressive, but as far as the rest of the hotel was concerned it felt more like a 3 star than a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. When we arrived the weather had turned cold so we took the duvet out of the wardrobe and put it on top of the single sheet that we had on the bed. As we were staying 3 nights I expected the bed to be made up properly but the uncovered duvet was left on top of the sheet. Apart from those issues we enjoyed our stay.
