Hotel's Favourite
This was our 5th stay at Tulemar and each time has been amazing. Over the years we’ve stayed in a variety of different types of villas and they each offer unique benefits. My favorite part of staying at Tulemar is the wildlife that visits daily. The TuleCafe has excellent food and beverages and it’s nice to be able to eat onsite. Be sure to try the Coconut Margarita! Our concierge was Orlando and he did a great job lining up transportation, dinner reservations, recommendations, etc for us. He stayed in touch throughout our stay and was very attentive, but not overbearing. He’s a great guy and went out of his way to make our 25th wedding anniversary special. Thank you for another wonderful stay!!

This place is absolutely gorgeous. Every corner of this resort is full of natural beauty. Lots of wildlife to see and the private beach is great to swim and lay out in. The staff here is fantastic, so attentive and friendly. The food at the Tulecafe is delicious and the hotel is in close proximity to plenty of local restaurants. Our concierge was Miguel and he always made sure we had what we needed, he was great. I can’t wait to return. We stayed in the one-bedroom villa, it was very comfortable and modern. I highly recommend this resort if you plan to visit Quepos.

Came home less than a week ago and we miss it so much. We had very high expectations of this trip and it did not disappoint. Perfect family vacation for our 11 and 13 year olds. We felt safe outside of the resort and took advantage of experiencing the local culture each day. Would recommend zip lining and waterfall tour. Both included lunch and were unforgettable experiences. The guides even took extra time with the kids and played some soccer during the down time of the waterfall tour. The resort….breathtaking! Views everywhere, gorgeous flowers and greenery, wildlife everywhere. We saw the most colorful birds, huge iguanas, sloths and of course monkeys! Our favorite part…indoor/outdoor showers. We would all fight over who got to take a shower first. So relaxing with a beautiful view even when it was raining. Unforgettable experience! We stayed in Villa 401 which was perfect. Amazing view from every window! Plenty of space…we all had somewhere to go when we wanted “alone” time to fully relax. Alex was our concierge and we hit the jackpot with him. He was always available and willing to help however he could. Our dryer wasn’t working and Alex didn’t hesitate to offer to take our clothes and get them laundered. We were spoiled. He took us to the grocery store outside of town for more reasonable prices and larger selection. He even made all our meal reservations. I didn’t have to worry about calling and planning anything!! I would not hesitate to recommend Tulemar Resorts!

I wanted an experience for my family where we were dropped in the middle of a rain forest and had wildlife all around us. I didn't desire a fancy hotel chain with a busy, crowded beach and a McDonalds down the street. I wanted an authentic experience in a quiet setting, while still having access to restaurants, someone to bring me fancy, frozen drinks on the beach and daily maid service (it's my vacation after all). Tulemar was the perfect fit and exactly what I desired. The "resort" is not what American's really think of as a typical resort. It's a conglomerate of privately owned homes managed by an agency, but it's done quite well. We were assigned Alex as a "personal concierge" who quite literally took care of our every need- dinner reservations (and daily reminders to make them which was helpful), transportation, tours and any and all smaller needs. Had someone to the house within 2 minutes when we locked ourselves out of the room safe. He made us an emergency doctor visit and arranged for immediate transport to the local urgent care center when my diabetic son stepped on a sea urchin. There was one, small restaurant and the food was amazing as was the staff. Shout out to our waiter, Omar. There were a few nearby restaurants, but the town itself was very rural and authentic. It didn't feel "touristy" whatsoever, which is what I desired. The beach was quite nice, not crowded at all. Service was amazing for food and drinks. Food arrived hot and fresh right to our beach loungers. David was in charge at the beach and he was amazing. There were sloths hanging out in the trees about 20' above our chairs. He pointed them out to me daily. We had squirrel monkeys visit the beach one day, completely invading the trees overhanging the beach (they were absolutely adorable and so tiny) and holler monkeys swinging through the trees daily. You can HEAR them coming! Our house was Casa Heliconia. It had been recently remodelled and was quite nice. The open air showers were really cool. House was very clean, everything worked, no bugs, no issues. We had a tucan pair nesting in the trees off the deck and were visited by white faced and squirrel monkeys, both coming right on our deck, seemingly unafraid of us. The white faced monkey family took a dip in our hot tub! No kidding! Sloths were all throughout the resort, usually pretty high up and just little balls of fur, but I saw one quite close during the sloth walk. The only con (and I feel compelled to add one) is that the property itself is VERY steep. Most roads had a 30-45 degree incline going down to the beach. There were a LOT of steps everywhere. The resort offered transportation vans that took you all over the resort, but walking around was not easy. I'm 51 and in excellent shape, playing competitive tennis. But anyone with health issues will find this terrain challenging. The only other con was the constant tipping. I felt that we were continually handing out tips, which quickly decreased as we anticipated running out of cash. We weren't expecting that much need to tip, but had to use the van for transportation everywhere due to the terrain. I would highly recommend Tulemar to anyone looking for an authentic Costa Rican experience. It is NOT a 5 star hotel, so as long as your expectations are realistic, you will love this place.
