I've been to MA 5 times and have stayed at more upscale places but I keep coming back here. I'll tell you why. Monkeys and views. I'm sorry but no other place can compare on these. I have never had an issue with hospitality. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Just got back and really enjoyed our third floor room in the B building. Wonderful view. AC was perfect. Beds comfortable. The rooms are huge! Has a full size fridge to store water and beer. Tons of monkeys. Toucans. Howlers in the trees. If you are a family this is the best place. We will be back.
We stayed in bungalow E5 and had this amazing view at sunrise from our balcony (I definitely recommend getting up early for this). We were able to watch monkeys and other animals every day around our room. The beaches were beautiful and not crowded at all. The pools are great as well-they have 3 on the property. The hotel food was great and the staff was very helpful to pick us up and drive us to the hotel restaurants any time we asked. They were also very helpful with arranging activities we wanted to do. We were sad we had to leave-this is definitely a place we would love to come to again and stay longer! We fell in love with Costa Rica here!!
Beautiful rooms and grounds are well maintained, but overall it feels like the hotel is slowly dying due to covid. 2 of the restaurants are shuttered, the poolside bar is closed, and it looks like one of the famous “cockpit bungalows “ has been abandoned. Additionally pretty much none of the groundskeeper staff smile or say hello—they all look a bit sad, like they’re waiting to be laid off soon. We loved our room in Area B—great view and capuchin monkeys ran across our balcony every morning! I hope the hotel recovers.
I had a nice big room with an beautiful view of the ocean. I loved the old airplanes but the best thing about this hotel was the wildlife! Toucans singing, howlers howling and troops of three different kinds of monkeys playing. The pool was Great too, and all for a very reasonable price...use the hotel website to book because they have better rates than other sites. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Compared to the previous hotel we stayed at in Arenal and the kindness of the Costa Rican people we had met so far on our trip and their hospitality, the front office staff can do more to improve. We arrived and we felt, were acknowledged after a bit after walking into the lobby. Check in was ok, the staff member explained the regs, informed us that 2 of their 4 restaurants are currently closed, pointed to where the pool is located, and showed us to our room. Beware! There are no elevators and if your room is not on the first floor, you will need to carry your luggage. They did not offer to help us with the luggage. The flatscreen TV did not really work. It was just static. We didn’t make this trip to watch TV, fortunately. We had a room with a kitchenette. There are a lot of tiny ants crawling around. The bathroom does not have air conditioning; it only has open window with a screen. The key to the room door is welded on to the key ring along with a smaller key (also welded) that turns the AC on. You cannot leave the room without turning the AC off. So, you do not return to a cool room. Understand that it’s to conserve energy, but wanted to make visitors aware. The pool and area looked clean, but we did not use it. What saved the stay is that we were on the third floor and our balcony was directly in view/next to the forest. Therefore, we were able to see the monkeys in the mornings foraging amongst the trees, directly in front of us. We cannot deny the gorgeous view from our room of the Pacific Ocean. From what we could see the beach was mostly rocky. We were trying to find a path to the beach but unfortunately, did not see the sign until we were driving off the property on the last day. That information was not given to us when we checked in. The hotel is a bit dated but is clean. I would recommend staff undergo a customer service course. Their attitude, we felt, was “here comes another tourist.”…
