Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Casa Luna for 3 nights as part of a tour of Costa Rica. We arrived at the hotel prior to check in, so decided to complete the hotel's trail. The walk takes you down several steps to the river and back up to the grounds and within an hour we had seen toucans, motmots, a kingfisher, several other beautiful birds, howler monkeys and giant iguanas - wow what a welcome! We were allocated room 215, which is one of the closest to the trail, so we were next to the wildlife action for the rest of our stay and we also had a good view of the volcano (when it was not hiding behind the cloud). This was good, because some other rooms are very close to the car park with little view. On the other hand, it meant that our room smelt quite damp (probably also due in fact to the changeable weather of the area) and as the rooms are quite rustic, there is a lot of noise from the animals (think howler monkeys at 5 am, insects and geckos chirping all night, footsteps scuttling on the roof etc.) which was part of the experience for us but bring ear plugs if this doesn't appeal. Our room had 2 double beds and was pleasant, but the highlight was the massive balcony. My husband briefly became excited at his first sight of a TV in a week, however this disappeared when he realised there were no English channels available, but he was contented with the good wifi access.
The food at the hotel is nice and the hotel even has its own craft beer. We especially enjoyed the local snacks and juices at the pool bar. However, we were disappointed at the timings of breakfast which only started at 7 am, the latest of all our 5 Costa Rica hotels, as we had two early morning trips and the hotel was not able to accommodate us. As most people participate in excursions, it doesn't seem good service not to offer food earlier, especially as when we did have breakfast it was very good.
The service at the hotel was fine, but we had better at our other accommodation. The staff here weren't as attentive and several times at dinner were stood around rather than waiting on customers. Also, other reviewers mention creative towel displays daily which we didn't experience, which was slightly disappointing when we were actually at the hotel for a big birthday which the hotel had been made aware of (my husband ending up paying for a special turn down in the room).
The highlight of the hotel is its grounds, which has lovely landscaping with interesting plants, ponds that are home to lots of frogs, a refreshing swimming pool and amazingly secluded jacuzzis. This encourages beautiful birds and lots of wildlife, all of which you can experience from the comfort of a hot tub.

Casa Luna is a lovely quiet place close to all that the La Fortuna/Arenal area has to offer. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfy. The food was good and the omelet bar at breakfast was a plus. It's about a 30 minute walk into town or you can get an Uber ride for about $2.

We stayed 3 nights for a romantic retreat and it was wonderful! We loved the breakfast and restaurant dinners. Delicious gourmet menu and fruit smoothies! We ate there every night because it was much more convenient than going into town at night. The thermal pools were pretty, but not hot like we would have liked. The romantic package was the same price as the nightly rate, but it included a free dinner and spa massage. I recommend it to all my friends and family!

This place is okay when asking for an extra matress they don't have one,so make sure that if there is five sharing make sure you take a blow up matress. It a very quiet and the smell in the smells like disinfectant.
Make sure you don't leave credit card deatail for a tab in the room always avoid the drinks and snacks that are in the room otherwise you'll be paying at the end and might suffer a shock with price.

We spent three nights here in April. We were thankfully given a room right next to the dining room and we asked immediately for a switch anticipating it being noisy (which it would have been as there was evening music). The highlight of this hotel is definitely the hot tub area, there is a nice pool, and a great spa where we enjoyed a lovely massage. The hotel literally had no water on the first morning so we were unable to even brush our teeth or take a shower before we left on our excursion. (It was back on when we returned). The room itself was tired looking. It needed a paint, and the full sized beds were really uncomfortable. Lastly, the breakfasts were really disappointing and the service was very very slow - there could have been a shortage of staff due to Covid, but there weren't many guests. Unfortunately, we were hoping for more:(

My partner and I spent 3 nights in Casa Luna Hotel. The room was clean - overlooking a garden - the bed large and comfortable. Throughout our stay the staff has been extremely helpful and friendly (we thought the use of WhatsApp by the staff to address queries was an excellent idea). We enjoyed a couple of meals at the hotel's restaurant, which were nice, although thought restaurants in La Fortuna were better value for money (eg El Chante Verde, 10min walk down the road). What we liked the most about the hotel were the different temperature jacuzzies which make for the perfect way of unwinding after long hikes in the area and the hotel's location, a short drive away from town but sufficiently remote to be able to enjoy the peace and quiet. The impressive Catarata Rio Fortuna is only a 30mins hike up the road; I highly recommend braving the walk up, enjoying a dip in the cool waters is the best reward!

We really enjoyed our visit to the the Arenal volcano and stayed at Casa Luna. We did encounter a few minor issues, mostly with communications. The room was great. Clean and quiet. Breakfast was ok, except for the mornings we had early morning tours and the hotel provided a breakfast box. Not sure any one wants a ham sandwich for breakfast! There was some fruit and crackers so we survived.
Not a four star, dinners were ok, but the people on the desk were limited in there ability to help us. There was one young lady who cleaned rooms but tried very hard to help us with the breakfast box issues. Hats off to her.
We had to pay for an upgraded room to get a better view of the volcano whereas their website claims every room has a great view. Thatās not completely accurate.

Lovely hotel in a quiet location surrounded by lovely gardens, pool but an awful smell whilst we were staying. Many rooms back onto what looks like a sewage system and the smell was awful for a couple of days whilst we stayed. Rooms all a good size, clean with a good bathroom and shower facility. Pation outside was lovely with private garden where we could sit and watch and listen to the birds and monkeys. Pool area was tropical and lovely with a great bar and food available. Waiter was great and his service was 1st class. Lovely restaurant with a good choice, breakfast was good with great choices. fresh fruit was delicious - dining room with a view of a Costa Rican birdtable with many colourful birds feeding off the fruit placed on it for them. Nothing to do at night here as it was too far to walk to the town so felt a little restricted.

Response from Paul Valenciano, Owner at Casa Luna Hotel & Spa
Responded 02 Apr 2020
Thank you very much for your nice comments about our property, we make daily efforts to improve our service, for this reason that we have been maintaining our water treatment system, which could have generated the bad smell you are talking about, we apologize since this is not common to happen, but as I said before, it is part of the maintenance that we must do. We are here to serve you, it is an honor to serve you. Best regards

We really liked this property. First of all the pool area was really nice, and hardly anyone there - we were start of rainy season so maybe it just wasn't full. But beautiful and peaceful. We didn't check out the hot tubs, the pool was just fine. The trail around the property is a nice early morning hike as well. There are lizards and frogs and all kinds of birds around the property which is very gorgeous. Rooms are nice and decent size. the only complaint is you can't open the windows to a screen to hear nature...but I'm sure there's a reason, maybe birds or something? Please do NOT even flush toilet paper in the toilet or it will clog...use the provided trash receptacle which has a lid for a reason. It's not a big deal, we've seen this in other foreign countries. The Wifi in the common area works well, the staff are all friendly and helpful, and it was a nice quiet stay in a comfortable bed. Was close proximity to town and the tours we were doing as well - very close to Arenal Oasis and La Fortuna waterfall. We didn't try the restaurant as we wanted to experience local places in town, but it looked decent.

My daughter and I spent 4 nights at this hotel. We had room 103. Spacious clean room, effective air conditioning, good sized shower room and a lovely balcony with a spectacular view of the volcano. Simple breakfast...juice, coffee, fruit plate and a choice of main breakfast plate. We had dinner In the hotel restaurant twice. Good prices, varied menu, large portions and all the dishes we ordered were nicely prepared and tasty. Attractive pool and gardens plus 4 hot pools. We were there to simply chill however the hotel offers a range of tours which can be booked via reception. The hotel is in a quiet location just a few minutes outside of La Fortuna, which is about a $6 taxi ride away.
