My husband, two teenaged children and I spent three nights at this hotel from December 24-27th. We all loved it here. The grounds were beautiful and in its secluded location, you really felt like you were staying in a rain forest paradise. The food at the main restaurant was delicious (I had my favorite dinner of the entire trip there which was a curry chicken dish that was beautifully presented). The breakfast buffet had a good variety and included an omelette station and delicious fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, rice and beans, plantains and other foods. It was very enjoyable to eat breakfast and watch beautiful colored birds including wild parrots eating fruit that the staff had set up right outside the open air restaurant. My son and I agreed the pool bartender made the best homemade pina coladas with fresh pineapple we had ever had (virgin for him) and my daughter loved the virgin mojitos. The pool and the pool bar were great.

We felt very lucky with the location of our "casita" (freestanding hotel room), which was #103, and the closest to the pool and restaurant. I recommend requesting that or one of the other lower numbered casitas. The property is on a relatively steep hill so if you don't like walking up hills you may not enjoy staying at one of the casitas that is higher up. The room itself was very clean and the bathroom was quite large with a fun shower. The room wasn't anything fancy and the beds weren't the most comfortable, but we loved the feel of the rest of the property so much we wouldn't hesitate to return.

We unfortunately were only able to see the volcano once while we were there because it was so rainy and foggy for most of our trip, but of course that was not the property's fault. When we did have the brief view, it was gorgeous.

Every single staff member with whom we interacted was very friendly.

After we left this resort, we stayed at a more expensive beach resort that felt much more Americanized. We much preferred this resort and would highly recommend it.

Nicely landscaped property with a lot of different birds. Interesting to watch the highways of the leaf cutter ants too.

If you don't have a car, then the nice property is a bit of a gilded cage, as it's not walking distance to La Fortuna or other attractions, so you are dependent on the resort's expensive tour options. We did 2 excursions, one day to Arenal Volcano with a swim in the falls, and another day out to the blue river in the other national park. Both were pretty good, but on the pricey side ($140 per person per day).

We had room 202, which on a clear day would have a nice view of the volcano, but it's shrouded in clouds most of the time, so not much anybody can do about that. Room had a fancy multi-jet shower and separate tub where the water runs down the wall like a waterfall, though we didn't use that feature. I saw other reviewers who must have had the same room and had harsh criticisms about musty smell, some hard water stains on the glass fixtures, and the pool in front the jets didn't work, all true, but didn't really bother us. Just open the bath window and all is good.

Pool is nice and warm. Saw a big iguana while walking out by the frog pond.

Pro tip: dinner is expensive and was not stellar, so go for the less expensive bar menu at the pool with more reasonably priced hamburgers and pizza. We ordered a beef dinner the at the restaurant the first night - medium rare, and it arrived raw. So we sent it back and it came back well done.

Staff was friendly and attentive.

My family stayed here for a couple days while enjoying the Arenal area. The resort was beautiful, while not so fancy that we didn't feel we could be ourselves (two kids - ages 9 and 10). While there are signs of aging in the facility, that was to be expected with the very reasonable price. We all felt that we got more than we paid for here. Overall, we absolutely loved it!

The water in the pool was very warm - it may be hot springs fed, I'm not sure. It was lovely after a long day hiking and exploring town! The rooms were large and neat, although we did miss having a real coffee maker (they give an expresso machine with pods) to make all the yummy Costa Rican coffee we had bought along the way. A frig would have been nice too, but oh well.

Breakfast was great - traditional Costa Rican fair. We ate dinner at the pool one night and it was great too. Would definitely recommend this hotel to other families and friends!

This hotel is beautiful! The gardens are gorgeous. The little villas are very cute, however not in the best care. The shower doesn’t have very good water pressure and the mattress was hard and uncomfortable. It is very nice when traveling with your family. There is a lot of space. We booked the Arenal suite and it was perfect for my family of four. It’s very nice to have a heated private pool right outside your door. Breakfast Buffett was the exact same everyday. It’s not very exciting or very good. The staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel provides a cheap laundry service that was very helpful when going on adventures everyday. The hotel will charge you $25 if you loose your room key or towel key. That is kinda obnoxious. Overall I would recommend this hotel… mainly for the beautiful gardens and the very nice staff.

Both bedrooms were large and the patio/pool outside our room was the perfect spot for my morning coffee. My spouse and I also enjoyed the best margaritas by the pool, The staff was exceptionally helpful and attentive. The food served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was delicious and attractively presented.

I have mixed reviews. Prior to arriving the hotel reached out to me through what’sapp and I asked if we could please see a photo
of our room. We did asked if we could have a volcano view, due to me being huge into photography. They sent us a photo of a room with this sweet little pool and volcano saying it was ours. Upon our arrival this wasn’t the case. We had a little bit of a volcano view but had this very dirty tub outside. We really wanted to keep to ourselves and enjoy the little patio
Space we had but the jaz tub didn’t even work :( we asked if they could fix it but they couldn’t and didn’t seem to care.

When we arrived we came in late and was exhausted!!!! We just wanted to get some
Food in us and a nice cocktail and relax. We order the special $30 USA and it included a drink. Well the drink had noooooooo booze in it. We had a Margarita and a daiquiri and not even a hint. The server came over and even asked if the drinks were fine we said kindly yeah they are ok. He said not strong enough??? we said YUP sorry don’t even taste anything. So he ended up bringing us “tequila” with a pepper in it. Well it wasn’t tequila they just added the pepper to an oil to burn our mouths to maybe think their was something in it. And the lobster was very very over cooked.

Please note we are not picky at all just really put a damper on our 1st arrival. When those things went hand and hand.

Other than that I did order a Margarita from the pool and it was completely different!!!!!! The bartender at the pool is amazing and super helpful! (FYI)

The staff in the morning kitchen is also very friendly and helpful if you need anything they are amazing!!

The place is very beautiful and very clean! The housekeeping is awesome! They always left
Little towel animals for us! They do offer a shuttle to and from the rooms.

Only thing I would reconsider is not eating at the hotel we found way way way cheaper and way more local check my reviews for the places we went to!!

Our 4 night stay here last year (June 2019) was great! The included breakfast was a perfect start to each day, and offered different things daily. The front office was great to ask questions, they will even arrange a taxi ($10 each way) down to Arenal to look around/have dinner. We had shuttle companies pick us up for different tours each day. Drop off was never a problem, but for some reason we had to meet the tour groups at the gate at the end of the hill (a short 5 min walk downhill). Never was a problem, and to be honest I liked the security of it.

Rooms were great! Very big, doors opened up to a great patio. We kept the air on most nights because I can't sleep in the heat. Rainfall shower was our favorite. Rooms were also clean and comfortable.

Pool was fantastic! During our stay we had the pool to ourselves or 1-2 other people most of the time!

Restaurants are also good and reasonably priced. Pool Bar was a great thing to have!

Beautiful gardens, The rooms were nice and the hotel staff were kind! However, food at the restaurant was far from good, besides being overpriced. Our breakfast was included so we gave it a try ! I had the Gallo pinto which was supposed to be a full dish! Again … plain, simple and the tiny little piece of sausage they added was simply offensive! The lack of flavor, the size of the portion and the way it look were just not what one expects considering the price we paid . My partner asked for an omelette that was just as bad! Next day We decided to go for breakfast somewhere else and had a real one for a great price!
On top of that we made it clear we needed wifi to be able to work remotely! I had to cancel my meetings because on Sat internet wasn’t working! They truly need to look at a better way to attract local tourism! This was not what we expected!

Dear charlievar, We are sorry for any inconvenience experienced during your stay. Your feedback is important for our growth. We are willing to exceed our customer expectations, and hearing back from you is crucial to do so. It's a shame you didn't have a good experience at the restaurant. We will make sure we serve great Gallo pinto. Regarding the issues with the internet, unfortunately, it was related to a major problem with our service provider. We would like to offer you a 10% discount in an eventual-next stay at Mountain Paradise. Best Regards from the Arenal Volcano, Mountain Paradise

Large clean private casitas with two showers, hot tub. Grounds are beautifully up kept and charming. Swim up pool bar with food service. Restaurant is wonderful. From burgers to filet. Staff is very service oriented. For example, on the first day our excursion, we left the hotel an hour before breakfast . Luis and the chef set up room service of local cooked to order so that we could eat before heading off.

They had lots on the menu. Beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian food. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. The breakfast had everything from chicken and rice to pancakes and eggs. Something for everyone. We had lunch there once and we had sandwiches and fish dishes. The one night we had dinner their we had a traditional Costa Rican meal of Chicken and rice and beans but it was delicious. (not like the breakfast style at all). You can really get anything you like there. They are very kind and will pretty much make the food the way you like it.

The shuttle from the hotel into town was $10. There were 5 of us but it's a van and can fit lots more. On the way back from town you can just walk to the local park and there are taxis all lined up waiting for you to go back to wherever you want. Again, just $10. You could have someone call for the hotel shuttle but it takes them a while to get you if because they are taking other guests around. The taxis seemed safe and very easy to use. You will have to look for a van taxi so you could fit all of you or take 2.
