1. nice pool area with 2 hot tubs as well as a couple of hot tubs hidden away from the crowds
2. Breakfast was included and was good all 3 days, omelet station, fresh fruit, sausage, French toast, pancakes, ham and an assortment of Costa Rican fair.
3. Rooms are a good size, the building we were in was the tower, not sure about the small buildings.
4. The updated bathroom had a very large shower, small counter with sink, no tub.
5. Balcony was a fair size with 2 Adirondack chairs. We sat out here with morning tea enjoying the beautiful view of the tropical plants, volcano and mountains.
6. Room safe worked well
The not so good
1. The beds are Very firm!
2. This may sound weird, but the toilet paper was the worst! It was like bumpy sandpaper.
3. The rooms was very unwelcoming - no pictures, no information, no tissue.
4. Staff wasn’t overly friendly or helpful but did expect tips.
5. Dinner wasn’t worth what it cost, spend your money elsewhere.
General info
1. The location is ok, you can walk to a few places - a confidence store, restaurants and souvenir shops.
2.Taxis prices are reasonable and you’ll need to use them to go into La Fortuna unless you like a long walk in unsafe ditches (no sidewalks).
It’s a very large hotel full of groups so we were unlucky when it came to breakfast as we were late on the scene and the best of it had been eaten!
Plenty of towels shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom and lots of hot water! Lighting in the room very basic, one overhead light and one bedside light!
Two nights here will be enough!
The restaurant food left much to be desired and we never ate there after the first dinner. The breakfasts were OK. The rooms were OK and the vast majority of the rooms had views of the backs or fronts of other buildings.
The staff next day was better but the truth is that this hotel is ill managed and the staff is skeletal. The gusts must fend for themselves. It appeared to me that they had a different standard of treatment with people of color.
The receptionists for all the days were great to me and helpful. My room was taken care of each day. A fridge was available to keep my drinks cold. The room had air conditioning when you need to turn it on. The bathroom had what I needed in fresh towels and a hair dryer, but my one criticism which I already let the receptionist know on my last day is that there needs to be a soap/shampoo/conditioner rack or holder in the shower as the only place to put these items is either on the floor or in a window ledge above you which is not ideal. The balcony view of the back of the hotel was really something when you can see Arenal Volcano in the background on clear days. The swimming pool area (with a bar right beside it) and hot tubs were nice to relax if you were not going out and wanted to hang around the hotel. Their restaurant is a nice place to eat if you did not want to go out, but at least the breakfast choices and service such as asking for a chef to make custom omelettes were very good.
I think that sums up what I remember since a week ago. I can say overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.
The desk clerk was very accommodating and sweet. The price was fair and he gave us a great room (703) with a great view of the mountains . The room was neat, clean, spacious and modern.
Included breakfast was buffet and very nice with typical Costa Rican foods.
All in all, very nice for 1 night or more.
