The good
1. nice pool area with 2 hot tubs as well as a couple of hot tubs hidden away from the crowds
2. Breakfast was included and was good all 3 days, omelet station, fresh fruit, sausage, French toast, pancakes, ham and an assortment of Costa Rican fair.
3. Rooms are a good size, the building we were in was the tower, not sure about the small buildings.
4. The updated bathroom had a very large shower, small counter with sink, no tub.
5. Balcony was a fair size with 2 Adirondack chairs. We sat out here with morning tea enjoying the beautiful view of the tropical plants, volcano and mountains.
6. Room safe worked well

The not so good
1. The beds are Very firm!
2. This may sound weird, but the toilet paper was the worst! It was like bumpy sandpaper.
3. The rooms was very unwelcoming - no pictures, no information, no tissue.
4. Staff wasn’t overly friendly or helpful but did expect tips.
5. Dinner wasn’t worth what it cost, spend your money elsewhere.

General info
1. The location is ok, you can walk to a few places - a confidence store, restaurants and souvenir shops.
2.Taxis prices are reasonable and you’ll need to use them to go into La Fortuna unless you like a long walk in unsafe ditches (no sidewalks).

My first impression was a 1960s style hotel in Spain rather tired and in need of a makeover. The room was full of dark mahogany wood rather gloomy but it had a pleasant balcony overlooking the pool and mountain we couldn’t see because of the weather.
It’s a very large hotel full of groups so we were unlucky when it came to breakfast as we were late on the scene and the best of it had been eaten!
Plenty of towels shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom and lots of hot water! Lighting in the room very basic, one overhead light and one bedside light!
Two nights here will be enough!

This hotel has rooms that look directly out onto the volcano. Sadly, there was heavy cloud when I stayed, but I imagine the view would be amazing otherwise. The rooms overlook the pool, which is very nice and also has two hot tubs and a bar you can swim to, serving great cocktails by a very friendly bar man. I initially thought reception staff were a little abrupt, but soon warmed to them and send my thanks to Daniella for her help when my excursion was delayed and her recommendation for a local eatery. The room was pretty spacious and had a hairdryer and fridge. The tap water is drinkable, so it was nice to fill up my bottle for the following days activities. The only thing I didn't particularly like was the fact you had to ring down to the restaurant to book a slot in the morning for breakfast. Naturally, they are busy, and I could never get an answer, so I used to book my preferred slot the evening before, which worked well. The hotel is in a good location with plenty of local places to eat, and you can walk to La Fortuna Waterfall in approx 45mins, though it's mostly uphill going and then you're faced with over 500 steps too. It is a lovely place to go for a dip, though, and plenty of wildlife to see on the way.

The first day we arrived the receptionist was rude and unhelpful. His name was Jardin. There was nobody else there to help us. Our rooms were in a far way building, nobody helped us with the luggage and we could not locate the exact building since there were 3 of them next to each other. There were other gusts just as lost as us. The elevator did not work and we had to go back all the way to the reception to get someone to help us. One group did not have their room on the floor of the building because of misdirecting and they had to be reassigned another room. All of us were upset and unhappy.
The restaurant food left much to be desired and we never ate there after the first dinner. The breakfasts were OK. The rooms were OK and the vast majority of the rooms had views of the backs or fronts of other buildings.
The staff next day was better but the truth is that this hotel is ill managed and the staff is skeletal. The gusts must fend for themselves. It appeared to me that they had a different standard of treatment with people of color.

We stayed here as part of a Caravan Tour through Costa Rica. This was one of my favorite hotels. Our room had a lovely balcony that overlooked the pool, a field of grazing cattle and the volcano (however it was cloudy in February and we couldn't see the top of the volcano.) There is a lovely pool and several hot tubs. Be sure to check out the one in the back. It's the most secluded, peaceful with a waterfall and largest. The food at this hotel was wonderful. Our tour included breakfasts and dinner buffets at the hotel. The selection of food and quality of food were very good. The staff is friendly and the housekeepers made a little elephant out of towels that greeted us when we returned from being out for the day on excursions. This hotel is also in walking distance of some great shops. We didn't have time to check them out, but drove by them and they looked great if you wanted to pick up some gifts or souvenirs. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Due to this being part of a Caravan package, I am not able to rate the cost of the hotel.

The rooms look out towards the volcano and panoramic views. The room I stayed in was modern with good services and very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful with a wide choice of hot or cold or both. The bar insisted on plsying loud music which made conversation impossible however the happy hour more than compensated.

We stayed here as part of our tour. We were a little dissappointed with the Hotel. The location is really good but the whole place is a little tired. The rooms and lighting within was very clinical and the bathroom had a nasty smell. The technician came up to fix it and he removed a lot of hair and gunk from the shower fitting which helped a little but not a lot. Also there was no hot water for the 2 nights that we were there BUT we alerted the manager on leaving and his response was if you had told me I could have had it on within 10 minutes. I feel this should have been on in any case. The manager would have been aware that as we were on excursions that we would be back 5 ish. Its unfair and unnacceptable to turn off the hot water in a hotel. We were 15 people staying in a specific row on the same floor. Breakfast was average

Okay...it's an older hotel and there are fancier, newer, higher priced hotels close by. This property is family owned, close to local activities, and the staff really went out of their way to make us feel at home. It has a wonderful view of the volcano. It just needs a good update/makeover.

My tour operator booked me at Magic Mountain for the weekend on the last part of my trip after I came from Monteverde by ferry in Lake Arenal.

The receptionists for all the days were great to me and helpful. My room was taken care of each day. A fridge was available to keep my drinks cold. The room had air conditioning when you need to turn it on. The bathroom had what I needed in fresh towels and a hair dryer, but my one criticism which I already let the receptionist know on my last day is that there needs to be a soap/shampoo/conditioner rack or holder in the shower as the only place to put these items is either on the floor or in a window ledge above you which is not ideal. The balcony view of the back of the hotel was really something when you can see Arenal Volcano in the background on clear days. The swimming pool area (with a bar right beside it) and hot tubs were nice to relax if you were not going out and wanted to hang around the hotel. Their restaurant is a nice place to eat if you did not want to go out, but at least the breakfast choices and service such as asking for a chef to make custom omelettes were very good.

I think that sums up what I remember since a week ago. I can say overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for one night. We had planned to stay at another, but it looked terrible, adjacent to a huge souvenir store and the room they gave was in front of the parking lot right off the main road. So, we checked out trip advisor and Magic mountain seemed pretty good. The hotel is very big but still felt comfortable.
The desk clerk was very accommodating and sweet. The price was fair and he gave us a great room (703) with a great view of the mountains . The room was neat, clean, spacious and modern.
Included breakfast was buffet and very nice with typical Costa Rican foods.
All in all, very nice for 1 night or more.
