Detailed Reviews
Amazing stay in this tropical paradise. Individual cottages/bungalows spread over the grounds with walking paths and beautiful scenery.
Rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast every morning was buffet style ( good variety ) and very tasty.
The owners go out of their way to help you with excursions, services and information.
We felt this property was a perfect location as the volcano view was breathtaking and the distance to town was short. We had a rental car but all of the tourist/ excursions come to pick up/drop off here.
The hot spring bath was a daily thing for us, really enjoyed.
Good value for the money. We would definitely come back to Kokoro again!

Hotel Kokoro is set up on a hillside with a direct view of the volcano, when there is no cloud cover. Our room was half of a two-room bungalow; it had a fridge, ceiling fan, A/C, mosquito net, TV, safe, basket with amenities, but no coffee maker. The shower was spacious, but water pressure wasn’t very strong. The grounds were beautiful and furnished with a sizable swimming pool and a natural hot spring that you could soak in. Our room had a queen bed which was quite comfortable, but the twin bed in the corner was in need of replacement, as you could feel metalwork through the top fabric. Drinks are available in a glass-fronted cooler in the reception area. It is not locked and you just have to let the staff know what you took. Hopefully, all future guests will be honest so the staff doesn’t have to begin locking it; it was really nice to be able to access the drinks once in a while. All the people working there were very friendly and accommodating. We’d definitely stay there again if in the area.

My family (2 adults 2 teens) stayed in a "standard family room". The room itself was very spacious and it was important to us to have 3 beds. The room had a rustic feel, a little dark, we did not try the tv and there was no air conditioning, but this was never a problem. The bathroom was the biggest negative as our shower did not drain well and could have used a serious scrubbing with bleach.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful! And the view of the volcano amazing! The hot springs it is true do not all have water in them and the ones that do look a little questionable due to being murky. However we used them anyway and enjoyed the soak surrounded by nature and birdsong. The pool was very good and we had it all to ourselves when we used it. We also sat in the reception/ lounge area a good bit, to read on a rainy afternoon or play card games at night. It was a nice amenity to have available.
Having a restaurant on site was super helpful. The breakfast is not fancy but serviceable and there is plenty of it. We ate there for dinner two nights after long days adventuring when we didn't have energy to go back to town. We felt the food at dinner was good and reasonably priced- my daughter and I thought the soup was really fantastic!
The best part about Kokoro is Ms. Peggy & her staff. They are so friendly and helpful and provide the best service. Ms. Peggy arranged our private transportation from San Jose to Arenal. They helped with restaurant recommendations and transportation everywhere we wanted to go. They offer their own taxi service for a modest extra fee and we used it almost exclusively to get to and from our activities. And one of the nights we were there was my son's 17th birthday- although we had had a very fun action packed day, we realized at 9pm that he had not had any "cake". I went to Ms. Peggy and within 15 minutes she came back with a big piece of chocolate pie complete with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and a candle. Ms. Peggy to the rescue!
Overall we were very happy with our stay and felt it was a good value. We would definitely recommend Hotel Kokoro to other families traveling to the Arenal area.

When we arrived we were told that we would be upgraded the next day. We were then taken to a very dark and gloomy room on the edge of the property - Casona A. The curtains had one of them hung inside out, it seemed there was no care taken with this room.
We had dinner in the restaurant and the choice was limited, we didn't get what we asked for and it was cold. I did not want to eat here again in the evening.
Breakfast was also very limited but the place was much more enjoyable and we were able to watch birds.
We were soon moved to a lovely bungalow No 7 which was pleasant and nicely furnished complete with mosquito net. There was no coffee/tea making fascilty in the rooms but drinks were available in reception free of charge. The view from our deck was limited but pleasant and relaxing. There was no food available betwween breakfast and dinner and restaurants were about a mile away along a busy road.
The other 2 nights we ate out but had to get a taxi which ranged in price from $6 - $10 for a less than 5 minute ride.
I would not stay here again due to the food mainly.

Really nice hotel. In a very beautiful area around the Arenal Volcano. Nice cabins with ample room for four persons Or five in our case. Room is a little dark and lightning is "romantic" so looking for something after dark needs the assistance of cell phone light. Good air conditioning and warm water. On ground Hot springs on grounds with three levels of "hot" Very hot-intermediate and slightly warm. Really relaxing if you can stand the heat. Just be careful walking in the hot springs because there are seating areas below the water that are not visible to the eye since the water is yellow and not transparent. Hot springs are very warm and you should take care with young children. Breakfast in the hotel "typical" for the country and delicious. Late afternoon snacks are tastier outside the hotel. Massages in the hotel are really recommended, they are great.

I stayed here for a couple of days with my family. Surrounded by nature and close to many attractions you cannot go wrong with this place. The staff were so friendly and provided all guidance on what to see and where to visit. The staff took paid so much attention to details including the food they offered for breakfast and dinner. We attended the special Christmas dinner and the food was so homely. We spent some time at the hot springs in the hotel and the kids loved it.
This place is surrounded by nature. Perfect spot to spend your vacation. Would love to visit Arenal and stay at this hotel again.

This small family-run lodging has spacious cottages that are mostly strung across a ridge, with stunning views of Volcan Arenal. The hot mineral pools, hot waterfalls and beautiful swimming pool are delightful, and the grounds are lovely and well-maintained. All the staff was courteous and helpful, and the owner Peggy generously advised us of local attractions.

We stayed in a spacious, clean cottage with right amount of amenities and a winning staff! The pool and hot spring pools were clean and inviting. The place is a retreat within itself and Peggy and her staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. The only reason I removed the star is because of a leaky shower area (though clean) that led to a constantly wet bathroom. The furniture and bathroom do need some updates.
The vistas outside are stunning with a direct view to the volcano. The place has healing vibes, great energy! There are very good restaurants within a mile and the hotel will arrange for shuttle as required or other transport as you require.
The restaurant and breakfast spread are excellent. Once again, the staff just went out of their way to accommodate special dietary needs. We were part of special Christmas dinner here and it was truly touching and special...

We loved the location, the room, the food , the pool and the hot springs! We really liked that we had our own cabin , with big bedroom and big bathroom. Quite enough space to rest after a full day visiting the area. Awesome views from our cabin porch. We enjoyed a nice free warm cup of tea in the evening playing guitar.
I guess the only downsize was the Wifi signal which was very weak in our cabin. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Located a short drive from the busyness of La Fortuna, Kokoro offers a quiet escape with a gorgeous view of Arenal. The staff was warm and genuine. The hot springs are beautifully maintained, as are the hotel grounds. After a full day of activities, Kokoro offers a tranquil place to rest and recharge for the next adventure. We were delighted with our stay and highly recommend booking Kokoro to anyone traveling to the area!
