Nestled at the foot of a volcano, Arenal Kioro Suites & Spa stands out for its picturesque location and breathtaking views, a feature highlighted by numerous guests. The service here is often lauded for its professionalism and warmth, enhancing the hotel's tranquil atmosphere.
Accommodations are consistently commended for their spaciousness and amenities like in-room jacuzzis, though some guests suggest the decor could use an update. While the hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, opinions on value show a divide; some visitors mention overpriced meals, while others feel the experience justifies the cost.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel staff in all areas was above our expectations. The room was spacious for 4 people. We were in building 12 unit 1207 which was a quiet end location. A short walk through the gardens brought us to the main building. We opted to walk and enjoy the property but transportation is available. It appeared in minutes after each request. We utilized the springs on site daily and the restaurant for breakfast with 2 dinners during our 4 night stay. A short drive to town offers a variety of other dining options. We had a car but did not need it for our excursions which provided transportation. The hotel is isolated so I would recommend a car. We stayed during Christmas and the rates were very high as expected during this busy travel time. The hotel was full but never appeared crowded. We saw a few people in the springs and mainly at breakfast. The buildings have a dated contemporary design but everything is immaculate. Staff is always working on the property. The grounds are spectacular with beautiful plants, flowers and wildlife everywhere. We enjoyed hummingbirds, frogs, toucans, pigs, horses and turkeys from our room. The hotel arranged 2 excursions for rafting and repelling on short notice for us. The dining staff welcomed us by name. Housekeeping made daily towel animals in our room. We made a small stop at the spa for a complimentary volcanic mask which was a very pleasant experience. Our kids used the hot tub in the room which was quite large. The cloud coverage and rain was daily during our time so we did not have the perfect clear view of the volcano but did get to see it one afternoon just before sunset on our return to the hotel. The area is packed with a variety of experiences to choose from.

Paula, Thanks for having the time to share your comments about your recent visit at Arenal Kioro. We're glad to know that you enjoyed this part of your vacations to the fullest, and that our services and facilities helped get what you were looking for at all times. Our Family Suites with two queen-size beds and a sofa bed are perfect for a party of four, there is room for everyone. Clouds and rain are very common during this season of the year, but there is always a good chance to enjoy the clear view of the volcano and the mountans. This hotel is a wonderful base for adventures in the Arenal area. The property is beautiful with gardens, walkways, a pool and a series of thermal pools. We stayed in a junior suite - one of the nicest rooms we've had. There were 2 queen bed, a sitting area with terrace facing the volcano, and a daybed behind a low wall that overlooked another view. We enjoyed the in-room hot tub when it rained in the afternoons (be ready for lots of rain!). The staff at the hotel was unfailingly friendly and helpful. The included buffet breakfast featured typical continental items as well as fresh omelets and eggs. There was always fresh fruit and veggies to accompany the meal. The hotel is situated close to the Arenal National Park and the private reserves adjacent to the mountain. It's less than 10 minutes from La Fortuna. The hotel arranged a taxi with Johnny for a ride to town and the national park. Johnny doesn't speak a lot of English but he was friendly, accommodating and really looked after us providing a map of the park and showing up early in case we finished our hike early. I highly recommend this beautiful and relaxing hotel.

Dear visitor, Thanks for your preference and for having the time to share your comments about your stay. La Fortuna area has a lot to offer, whether people are looking for nature or adventure, and the rain is just part of the package offered by a visit to the rain forest. The first months of the year are normally very warm and clear in the early day, but there are times when a passing storm pours rain all day. We're glad to know that your visit was a good one, and that you will keep good memories of this part of your vacations trip. Highly recommend! We were greeted with a warm welcome and a local cocktail, before being taken to our room which had magnificent views over the volcano and a hot tub. Whilst the hotel is a short distance from town, uber are easily available to make the short trip, which we did for dinner. Breakfast was a wide range of fresh produce, however, we had room service on our first night which was poor. We would definitely stay in this hotel if we were to visit Arenal again!

My family of five chose the Kiora Suites and Spa for the hot springs, the fact that breakfast was included daily and we could all stay comfortably in one room (and the price was moderate). Initially, we thought the property was fine - certainly our room with two queens and a twin fit our family of five (2 adults, 13, 12 & 7 yr old). The shower was separate of the toilet and sinks, with each offering some privacy. Our suite overlooked the Arenal Volcano, and the gardens of the property - so it was pretty to look outside from our beds. However, the pool was very plain and the overall pool deck was small and nothing special. The hot springs were warm, but certainly not hot and they had a slight odor. The staff was always courteous and the food was delicious, but we were the ONLY family on property. That aspect made us feel like we needed to be quiet at all times....walking around, playing ping pong and especially around the pool and springs. We also had to repeatedly ask for more bath towels, as we were only given four, when we clearly made reservations for five people (just an annoyance really). Property and stay was otherwise fine....hot tub, mini fridge and air conditioning were all in our room. I would recommend more for couples looking for a quiet place to stay.

Hotel is really perfect, it has everything you need for a perfect holiday. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Personal is just phenomenal, service is spending. Food was tastefully and with variety of choices, all the greets for their main chef. Thermal spa is great, water is fresh, clean, regularly sanitized and very hot. This hotel gets definitely a recommendation from my side and i will be glad to return there.

Do yourself a favor and stay at Tabacon Resort & Spa. We paid about $325 a night to stay at Kioro and for $70 more we could have stayed at Tabacon which, unlike Kioro, is truly a 5 STAR "Resort & Spa". We did end up staying at Tabacon for $395 a night for one night, but it includes free admission to their hot springs resort which is $90 per adult if you don't stay there, so it's totally a deal vs Kioro which only has free access to a tiny hot springs joint next to the gigantic Baldi hot springs complex down the road. There was a pool and hot tubs that were "hot springs" fed at Kioro, but the pool was cold and there was no one using any of them. From the minute we arrived at Kioro the creepy front desk guy never smiled once...he made us feel like we were checking into a prison, not a resort. Super bad vibes. When I booked the room they said "this is our last available room for the dates you want"...then when we got to the hotel it's a ghost town. They couldn't have even been at 30% occupancy. The hotel is isolated and although I read the views are stunning, Arenal was completely covered in fog every day so we never saw it from the hotel. I don't know how to describe the experience other than to say bc there were very few guests staying there and the service was so unfriendly, you could tell something is wrong. I don't know if it's a bad place to work or if something bad happened, but the whole time we were there, it just felt off. The room itself was so huge it was really more of an apartment than a hotel room. The room had incredibly high ceilings and it a hot tub in the room if that's what you're looking for. Food at the free breakfast buffet was average. Do you self a favor and spend a little more money but stay a Tabacon, you will be so happy you did!

We picked this hotel, well known for its large suites , surrounding and Exceptional View of the Arenal. Our room had an all window bedroom, giving you the feeling to sleep at the feet of the Arenal. The sounds of nature, the authenticity of the panorama was breath taking. Room has a garden jacuzz "i indoor", which can be a bit byzarre, we did not use it for the noise and did not want to have water all over, nor bugs. Room has an espresso machine, safe, great mini bar, a large bathroom. AC was silent and perfect working. Our favourite was the Bedding: Excellent. ( matresses, sheets, down cover were the best).
We did not like : Tiniest closet, really, really tiny. The very outdated electricity, looks of the room. The curtains are not light insulated and you might wake up early. Our room MAIN door was very difficult to open and sliding widows could not be locked for security. The water system is normal for any central America countries, after a little patience, your water will be warm with fantactic pressure. This property is perfect to unwind and connect with nature a great overall stay.
Service was exceptional, attentive , in a Pura Vida style. Our cleaning lady, Cherry did a magnificent work.
We highly recommend the spa, a deep tissue, a real one, with Karina and Jacqueline. We did 2 massages. The technics, protocol used for your muscles to relax and recover was fantastic, ( pre reserve your massages if you want it to be done at specific moment of your trip) arrival and after toughest excursion ! A delight. Again surroundings were rustic but super mega clean.
Breakfast and diner were decents. It is not the most attractive fun spirit but the quality was above average, everyone will find something tasty and at their preferences. Bartenders are really good. The views, openness of the food areas are such a plus. You feel in the middle of nature and the jungle.
We visited other properties, in a more modern overall appearances but concluded that our room size and view was unbeatable. Once you overcome the looks, poorly lit at night, accentuating the rustic looks, you will realise that it is a very well maintained, exceptionally clean, while worth property. The customer service you get is extremely efficient and attentive.

Fantastic hotel. Amazing service and stunning grounds. The staff really go above and beyond and are very accomodating.
For example one night they messed up our dinner order and we didn’t even say anything but when the bill came it was half priced and they apologized.
The grounds and hot springs are stunning you really feel like you’re in the rainforest. The view from our room was amazing you can see the volcano and birds when you wake up. The hot tub is a nice touch, just make sure to keep the lid on and raise the temp to 104 to get it nice and hot. The room
was also MASSIVE.
We stayed 4 nights. (Looking back we could have done everything we wanted in 2 but oh well)
If you want to go into la fortuna a cheap option is an uber. You can find1 hour massges for $25-$45 so I would do that over the hotel spa to save money.
Coffee at breakfast is delicious and the food is good too, ends a bit early at 9:30 but wasnt a problem for us.
Note that it rains a LOT so just be prepared. Also- NO mosquitos — like really, none, at least in FEb 2020.

The hotel was really nice. The room was big and modern, and the grounds were beautiful. Breakfast was included with the stay and the breakfast buffet was delicious with a nice mix of local and more options. The hotel is in a good location as it is a quick trip to the other attractions in the La Fortuna/Arenal area. My only complaint, and it wasn't the hotel's fault, was that a big selling point was the view of the volcano out the window of the hotel room, but the days we were there were rainy and cloudy and we never saw the volcano. We'll just have to come back and try again I suppose. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

The rooms are huge and beautifully appointed with a full size Jacuzzi in front of the wall of window view of the volcano.
The grounds are gorgeous. Winding trails through tropical flora could be difficult for those with mobility issues, but shuttles are provided.
The on site natural warm springs are surrounded by flowers. Various levels become cooler as they go down the hillside. Since there are a number of different pools, there was always privacy.
The pool was small, but adequate, with loungers in shade or sun.
The included buffet breakfast was delicious and had a good selection. Dinners were delicious and reasonably priced (pasta $13) especially considering you're on a resort. They have a pool side meal for 2 for $50 that would feed 3 or 4!

Sorry I don’t know
Yes, there are hair dryers in all our suite rooms.
I am not aware that the hotel provides transportation to SJO.
We used a private company for transportations back to SJO. It’s a long drive but the copany provides us a hiking tour of volcano and a coffee and chocolate tour and lunch on the way back to SJO.
