Beautiful property. Excellent thermal springs, felt so good after hikes. Parking is by your room which was a nice treat. Feels secure and safe. We had a room with personal jacuzzi and it was a nice addition. I thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Cordon Blue I had for supper. My husband felt the nachos were ok. Location is great! Staff at check in were very good. Welcome drink was nice. Clean!!
Things that could be improved: pool table falling a part with hole in felt. Dart board missing a dart. Bathroom slanted to the room, so water slid that way. Had to flush a lot to get toilet to work. Coffee was not good compared to other 3 places we stayed at in Costa Rica. Towel key card situation was frustrating. We were told we had to return 2 towels or 2 keycards or be charged $20/each. Went to thermal springs on property and came back to towel holder where we placed our sandals and 2 towels except 1 towel was missing... Most likely from other hotel guests, but now what? Why not just let us use the towels freely?

Stayed with my mother and sister and we absolutely loved this hotel from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. The concierges were so helpful with their suggestions and making us feel comfortable. We stayed in a room with two doubles beds and a volcano view. Luckily for us the day we checked in January 27th we woke up the next day to a crystal clear view of the volcano! it was stunning and absolutely breath taking. There were two pools which we always clean. And many thermal and hot tub experience including one with a swim bar. There was also wifi in every corner of this hotel and the tv in the room had many services including youtube, netflix etc. An added touch was their commitment to eco-friendliness with all the power turning off in the room when you leave with the room key card as well as recycling bins all over the premise. I would recommend this hotel and will definitely return!

We had a lovely time staying at Volcano Lodge, Hotel & Thermal Experience. The hotel is located about midway between La Fortuna town and the Arenal Volcano park areas, an easy 10-20 minute drive will get you to either location and free parking is included in your stay. We splurged on a room with a private hot spring and it was worth every penny! The views overlooking Arenal Volcano and the spectacular gardens were absolutely stunning. We did also enjoy the public pool and hot springs, particularly during happy hour, but always started and ended our day with a soak in our private outdoor tub. The breakfast was substantial and delicious and the staff made us feel comfortable and safe. We also enjoyed dinner both nights of our stay and the food was as good as any restaurant in town. Thank you to the wonderful staff who made our stay so memorable!

Fantastic Location and super friendly staff, great place to be based to take in the various tours available. Room was comfortable and adequate for our stay (would benefit from a couple of extra mats so you don’t walk in the grass etc from the patio garden area ), Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice and great Omelettes. We didn’t eat in the evening at the resteraunt so can’t comment on that.
Hot spa etc was very relaxing and the wet bar was a nice touch,
Now for the not so good items - Costa Rica has quite strict anti smoking laws, however the way they are applied at this location is bordering on draconian. The whole site is non smoking and my partner who was smoking in the car park 10 meters from reception was told she must move to the public road to finish her cigarette. I’m a non smoker so we have a balanced view on what is acceptable and at the point of writing this we are at hotel 4 and are allowed to smoke at the outside bar and in the gardens. So for any smokers who are reading this review this is most definitely not for you!
It should be stated clearly on the website that smoking is not allowed.
You are also required to wear arm bands which makes you feel like your in a cheap package hotel, it would be much nicer if they used an alternative less obvious method to identify there guests.

We just spent 4 nights in a Junior Suit and could not be more happy with the service and quality of the hotel. Our personal hot springs was cleaned and completely drained during our stay which showed how sanitary they are. The main springs were beautiful and cleaned as well.

My favorite part is they have 2 tree like branches and they put bananas on them for the birds to eat. Such beautiful wildlife enjoyed the treats.

The restaurant was fabulous! We are a Keto family and they met our needs every night and accommodated us every morning. The bar tender even made us frozen coffee drinks using our heavy cream. Jimmy is the absolute best server who made my son smile everyday! Remembered what he wanted for breakfast and dinner.

Overall it was amazing with nothing bad to say.
Only recommendation would be to have public umbrellas around the resort for the daily down pour.

We really enjoyed this hotel. It was not too pricey, the staff was absolutely amazing, whether it was suggesting excursions, places to eat, things to do, things to see. They booked tours they offered for us, but also called and booked tours for us that we found on our own. They were very helpful finding somewhere to take our Covid tests for a good price (we found one for $53 as opposed to $150 ones offered in downtown Fortuna), they were just overall amazing with everything.

We stayed 4/22-4/26 and were especially impressed by Diego and Emerson. There was one more man that worked at reception, I feel so terrible that we can't remember his name :( but he was just so helpful and so sweet and was the number one reason our trip went so smoothly from check in to check out, he provided above and beyond customer service every single day we were there!

The rooms were beautiful, with a beautiful view of the volcano. The location was great, close to the waterfall, volcano, excursions, downtown, places to eat, etc. The property was just absolutely amazing, so much wildlife, all different colors of birds joining us for breakfast, pineapple plants, just beautiful.

The options for breakfast only varied slightly from day to day, but was still very good.

I can't say a negative word about the place!

Our family of 5 stayed here for 3 nights at the start of our holiday. Rooms were very comfortable and well equipped though seemed a little gloomy with all the dark wood. The rest of the resort is just amazing - beautiful well tended gardens and the hot volcanic pools were fabulous. There was a wonderful view of the Arenal Volcano from the grounds and the restaurant was fantastic-Jimmy and Mario were especially helpful and accommodating- nothing was too much trouble.

We are a family of four. A mom, dad, and two teenage boys. We booked a room in the junior suite area, which was two full-size beds, and an outdoor plunge pool. We were very excited about the outdoor punch pole, but it’s more of an outdoor hot tub. With an emphasis on hot,. There are also a couple of lounge chairs outside, which is really nice.

The shower is OK. The fourth person to shower always had a little less hot water than the rest. Also, you cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet. We learned that the hard way when our toilet was clogged on night too! They are super speedy to come out and help you with anything.

The grounds of this hotel are really beautiful. You can see wildlife walking around. There are multiple pools to choose from. Some are the hot thermal ones and there is one by the restaurant that is a typical pool temperature.

They offer a buffet breakfast that is really good. Everything from rice, eggs, to an omelette bar. And of course, lots of fresh fruit. We ate dinner twice at the restaurant which was also really good.

There is a bar at the front lobby with a pool table, cornhole, darts, and Jenga. The days we spent here at La Fortuna, We’re jam packed, so we spent our evenings, mostly relaxing by the pool and playing games.

Swim at the bar is a treat, and they do offer happy hour from 4 to 6.

We typically stay at Airbnb’s, so this resort was a really nice treat for all of us. I would definitely recommend it.

The resort is also in a great location where you don’t need to travel too far to get to some of the main spots you want to see in my Fortuna. Only 15 minutes to the volcano and hanging bridges. 15 minutes in the opposite direction till out for Tina, waterfall, in about 25 minutes downtown.

It is helpful to have a car here as they do not have any sort of shuttle service. But they will help you get a taxi.

We are just returning from a 10-day Costa Rican adventure. The first 4 days were spent in La Fortuna at the Volcano Lodge. We were so satisfied with our decision to stay here. The hotel is conveniently located to everything in the area, beautifully maintained, in particular the landscaping and vegetation were amazing, and includes a great volcano view. We loved the thermal pool options and regular pool, with the added bonus that only guests of this resort or their sister property can access them. We loved the thermal pools so much (especially the one under the canopy of trees WITH a swim up bar) that we decided against the expensive day passes at the more "famous pools" in the area.
Our stay included breakfast, which was a wonderful plus with plenty of options to please all members of the family. We also enjoyed a few dinners at the restaurant (highly recommend the Tilapia dish) and found the food good and prices reasonable.
I can't forget to highlight the 2 for 1 daily Happy Hour.
The room worked perfectly for our family of 4. Nothing fancy, but, clean and well appointed, including a refrigerator. We stayed in a Thermal Pool room, which I would suggest. The private thermal pool was a great escape in the AM and Night--our own private oasis. In particular, soaking with a beverage and a slight rain shower (it is rainy season after all) was so relaxing.
All of the staff members we met from front desk, to housekeeping, to bartenders, to servers, to maintenance staff were kind and helpful. Great service was a common theme throughout our time in Costa Rica.
Overall, at this price point, I don't believe you will find a better option in the area. Quite honestly, this place is probably superior to many at higher price points.
This should definitely be a contender as you plan your trip to Costa Rica.

We spent 3 days at Volcano Lodge and had the warmest embrace from the staff. We booked in person since it was cheaper than Expedia or Orbitz.
Tip: Everything is negotiable in CR, if you find a rate online it's best to stop by in person and see if they can give you a better rate, typically they go down anywhere from 10-30% in our experience.

The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Their willingness to serve you with humility and appreciation brought a whole new level of gratitude for the Costaricuense culture.

Thank you Alonso for making our yummy breakfasts and making us feel like royalty with your service! We do't remember everyone's name but the main guy at check-in has superb English and was very friendly! All of the wait staff was very kind.
The food was delicious, my favorites were the CR traditional buffet breakfasts which were included, delicious lattes and happy hours!
The hot strings were incredible and overall hotel vibe was relaxing, clean, safe and quiet. We had a regular room since we were on a budget but and hot springs are easily accessible.

We will be back!
