Detailed Reviews
We had a wonderful time at La Fortuna Mountain Paradise with our three kids for three nights. The place was clean and nice, and we stayed in one of the bigger villas with a pool out front. The free breakfast was awesome, especially with the kids, and had everything we needed to start the day. The place was well taken care of, and our kids loved the pool. It's in a great location not far from downtown, and it felt safe with easy parking. The staff was really nice and helpful. The only thing we'd suggest is eating dinner elsewhere in town, as the options there were better and more affordable. But overall, we'd definitely recommend staying there.

Loved staying here. Well appointed, spacious, clean rooms. Nice pool. New restaurant with really good well priced food. Louis makes the best ceviche(try it with mango) and made this Canadian happy with his salmon in red wine reduction!

We stayed here for two nights after booking an AirBnB that turned out to be sketchy. We were looking for a hotel that was clean, comfy, safe, and had a great view. This place checked all of our boxes. They also had a delicious free breakfast. The only thing I wish they had is a pool. I realize that there's no spot on the property for it, but maybe they could work out some sort of agreement with a neighboring hotel. This place was a great deal for the price we paid.

We stayed here Jan 27 & 28 2020. We found out in the morning there was no hot water in the building yet we were never told this and only booked a day before. We found out the hotel hasn’t had hot water for some time. Other couples confirmed this. We asked for our money back for this second night so we could stay somewhere else and they outright refused, offering instead to stay in a hostel they owned. Also, the room safe does work and hasn’t for some time and the sink in bathroom is plugged. The bed sheets are threadbare. Don’t know why it has such a high rating. A true dump in every sense of the word. Avoid like the plague.

Response from Costa-Rica-Hostels, Gerente at Hotel La Fortuna
Responded 07 Feb 2020
Hola dear customer, we sorry that your experience was that bad, is important for us let every know that we respect your opinion, but we do not share it, as you mention we was open to give you alternatives and try to make your stay much better, but you refuse. The reason why why have the rating that we have is simple: because other customers thing different than you. If you compare our hotel as a "plague" is because maybe you was looking for a 5 stars hotel with a price of one with a low category. About the hot water is something that we are closed to fully fix as it works but sometimes when the hotel is full the hot water take time to back, but as I said is closed to be fix.

Had a three-night stay at La Fortuna Hotel in La Fortuna. The room was decent. Air conditioner was in the room, but the remote unusable. Shower gave warm water only the first day of stay. Fast service at reception. WiFi available.

What's Good: My husband and I just got back from our vacation at La Fortuna, Costa Rica and stayed for a few days at Hotel La Fortuna. The hotel is located in the center of town, so it's nice that you can just walk to the restaurants and shops. The free breakfast is also great-Eggs, bread, fresh fruits, juice and coffee.
What's Bad: The room is simple, the bed covers are very old and thin, the towels are very thin and have holes on them and some were smelly and not clean at all. Of course, we asked for new ones, but we got some more old towels. The hotel maid said all their towels are like that. For the price they charge per night, surely, the hotel could use new towels and new bed covers.

Paid 83.42USD/night on Expedia. Three nights. This hotel is perfectly located downtown and is virtually the tallest building in the area. It's a faded salmon pink, so if you're coming in from another city and the driver doesn't know it, you can't miss it. Friendly staff (thorough, maybe overly so, but not a fault), free fast wifi. Free breakfast which is served in the bright lobby restaurant. Coffee, juice, fruit plate, followed by a plate of scrambled eggs with toast and jam. It's not huge, but does the trick for morning excursions. Restaurant is closed for lunch and dinner. No pool. No issue. Car rental and Interbus office are kitty-corner. Room safe, with a 10$ deposit (key). The washroom was interesting. Shower, with low pressure hot-water. You'll need some jedi skills to get it to gently rain hotly. Careful not to spill water all over the floor. Desk with no chair. Weird. :)
Didn't pay for, but got volcano view (obscured by clouds our entire trip, save 10 minutes).
Walking distance to Alberto's Horse stables. 10 min max. Do this and save the admission on the Fortuna Waterfalls (10$).
Laundry across the street. Directly. $3.60/kg per load. Folded, friendly, fast. Usually 2-4 hour turnaround.
It's a 2-5 minute walk to everything you could possibly want and a moderately inexpensive taxi drive anywhere else.
Stay here. It's a clean, reasonable, civilized, option.

The main selling point of this hotel is the location. Situated in the downtown of La Fortuna, it was good to be able to walk around, especially if you do not have a car. We discovered the town on foot and that was great. Otherwise the hotel is a budget standard, ok bed and shower pressure and towels. Clean and adequate and priced right. The breakfast is standard fruit plate and scrambled eggs - nothing special. It was a great hub for adventures. The front desk staff were very helpful and able to recommend things to do. If you book a tour be sure to tell the desk with your room number incase the tour comes to pick you up and you are not ready (or they come at the wrong time!!). It's a budget hotel so don't expect high comfort. It's adequate. The wifi signal was not strong from the room so I spent a lot of time in the lobby area to connect.
Overall a good stay.

I have stayed here many times. I have also stayed at many local resorts at high multiples of this hotel. The people are very nice. They are not bilingual, but very friendly. Because the relaxation occurs at the local spas, the rooms in the Arenal area are just for resting before the next days activities. These are just above bare bones rooms. Twin beds with a private bathroom and a wall mounted osolating fan. Hot water is provided by an on-demand shower head that is common in CR but takes a little while to figure out. All-in-all a great bargain at roughly $10 a night pp including taxes and breakfast allows for more money to be available for the spas and area tours. Best meal is at the restaurant Volcan next to the town's center and the rotisserie leaving town on the way to Tabacon. Best bargain spa is Baldi halfway between tabacon and La Fortuna. Horse enthusiasts should do the Waterfall tour.

Love the open-air lobby, reminds me of Hawaiian hotels; nice atrium, too
Location quiet and convenient, just a couple blocks from all the stores, restaurants; supermarket very close by
Friendly and helpful staff, for booking transportation, tours, etc.
Room was clean, comfortable; safe requires an old-fashioned key + deposit; we didn't bother, since it looked like it also needed batteries
Comes with access to pools at 2 nearby hostels, that worked well
