Hotel Lomas del Volcan receives accolades for its impeccably clean and comfortable rooms, with guests often mesmerized by the stunning views, despite a few mentions of the decor feeling a bit outdated. Its location is celebrated for both its closeness to local attractions and the enveloping natural beauty, although the journey from town and the terrain on the property may pose a slight inconvenience.
The service is consistently lauded as friendly and thoughtful, adding to the hotel's intimate and charming atmosphere. While some guests feel certain aspects are overpriced, the hotel's amenities, including the lush gardens and pool area, typically leave a positive impression.

Detailed Reviews
Our expectations weren't high as we turned off the main road under a shabby hotel entrance sign, first impressions weren't good. We continued on a mainly unmade track uphill for over 1km. The land became better tended and we then arrived at an impressive, modern reception set in beautifully kept grounds. The check in was friendly and professional. We were then taken by buggie to our bungalow accommodation which was clean, comfortable, had an excellent bathroom and a large terrace overlooking the grounds. Although there was a table and chairs on the terrace it would have been nice to have had some more comfortable, relaxing furniture. The hotel sits close to the foot of the volcano and we were lucky enough to have clear days and uninterrupted views. There is a short but steep walk from the hotel grounds through the secondary forest towards the volcano. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant had a reasonable menu for evenings, there is an outside terrace with great views of the volcano and surrounding countryside. There is an outdoor pool in a pleasant setting but the size and facilities were inadequate for the size of hotel. The hotel overall is quiet and peaceful.

Dear 59ajay Thank so much for choosing us as the hotel to stay in La Fortuna. We are glad that you expectations were exceeded, that is one of our goals. The view of the volcano is amazing and also the nature that surrounds us. Restaurante Hojarasca makes us proud, we love food and we work in order to provide an amazing experience to our guests. We accept your recommendations and we will take note of those little details. We hope to see you soon! Kind regards from your friends from Lomas del Volcán.

Our recent 3 night stay was what you want in a rain forest all the cabins had a front deck as well as the covered deck in the back that faced the rain forest or volcano. The queen beds were very comfortable and the large bathroom was clean and the water pressure in the shower was great. The staff are genuinely caring and enjoy there job. The bar offers happy hour, large tv with current sports, there drinks are great and food at the bar delicious.
The restraunt for breakfast had buffet that would please everyone, coffee fresh juices etc... the best part was omelettes to order and pancakes. We loved our stay in Costa Rica and if we return we would definitely stay here due to staff style and location and we are picky travelers

Situated on the western side of La Fortuna and down a bumpy country road about half a mile off the main highway is a little slice of heaven for all volcano fans. My wife and I opted for the very reasonably-priced apartment-style rooms as you first drive onto the property which consisted of a small bedroom and bathroom with a shower. Our place was perfectly clean, comfortable, and had plenty of hot water. Although the view of the volcano was obscured by rain and clouds when we first arrived, we got up at drybreak the next morning to see Arenal. Oh, boy, what a magical view! We drank coffee on the front porch while watching stream drift from the summit! Afterwards, we walked around the hilly property which is full of exotic flowers taking lots of pics of the volcano before going to breakfast. The included breakfast was super and consisted of an omelette bar as well as lots of other choices - easily a $20 meal in the US. Service throughout the property was also amazing. In short, we hated to leave the place but highly recommend Lomas de Volcan!

Very disappointing stay at Lomas del Volcan. We were recommended this hotel by a tour company and despite the raving reviews it was not what we found. The entrance to the hotel alone is a 1km dark path filled with bridges completely submerged under water and a rocky road. This makes it impossible to walk in and out after dark. Unless you plan on taking a car in and out you are basically stranded. The hotel reception staff declines having a car drive you to the end of the property so you can walk into the city and recommends a $15USD taxi when you can easily call an Uber for $3-4USD to take you out of the property and into the town. The town is small but accessible to walk once you exit the property. There is nothing to do in the evening at the hotel except spend it eating and drinking at the over priced restaurant and bar. The only staff member that was friendly and helpful was the one bar tender at the outdoor bar, otherwise no one is much help if you have questions. Though the grounds are well kept and the rooms are in decent condition, unless you plan on spending the entire time in your room or sitting in the hotel lobby this isn’t a place for you. The weather at this hotel is also quite different then in the city. Has it is at the bar of the volcano it will rain almost everyday until noon and sometimes later in the day even if I’m the city it is not. Highly recommend choosing another hotel, one more accessible with friendlier staff. Really looked forward to our stay and it was a huge disappointment.

A wonderful resort at the foot of the Arenal volcano! Our little cabin with balcony was spacious, clean and beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was an amazing buffet of fruits, hot and cold foods and an omelette/pancake bar. Inexpensive shuttles were available into La Fortuna and other sites.

Dear MargotS123 Thank you so much for this comment! Definitely our bungalows are spacious, clean and beautiful. We love them because our goal is that our guests can enjoy and rest every moment. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day: you need to eat properly to enjoy every activity of the day. For us is really important to help our guests in their vacations. We hope to see you soon. Kind regards from your friends from Lomas del Volcán.

the hotel is located close to the Arenal Volcano in a very nice and well maintained park. There are bungalows located throughout the park with nice views into the park. I suppose these are great. However, as the bungalows were booked out, we had to settle for the standard rooms. And those are simply terrible. Tiny boxes totally overpriced, no possibility to open the windows, with luggage in the room there is no way to even move around. on top of that, and this is irrespective of the accommodations, the staff is, with very few exceptions, arrogant and unfriendly. to be specific - we arrived at the lobby and didn’t notice that there is a sink to wash our hands. without a welcome the guy in charge of the reception lashed out at us and told us to wash our hands before he would start with the check in. last time I was treated like this was back in the times of the iron curtain at a Moscow hotel. Staff in the breakfast room was also very inattentive and unfriendly.

We arrived late in the day at Lima’s Del Volcan to very friendly hosts. We were shown very quickly to our rooms, which had comfortable beds and AC. The rooms were very clean and the entire resort was well maintained. The next morning we were awoken to amazing sounds of the jungle. We had breakfast included, which was always excellent with a great setting overlooking the Volcano. The buffet was well stocked and pancakes and eggs of all sorts could be made to order. Other food we ordered from the restaurant was excellent.
And speaking of the Volcano, we were very lucky in that we had spectacular weather and had clear views from bottom to top. Hard to describe how breathtaking it was to wake up and see it each day. We were told that only about 25% of the time is it visible. The resort is nestled hard up against the backside of the Volcano, and bordered by forest, so lots of beautiful birds, and wildlife, as well as limited road noise.
Two minor negatives. The first, which maybe comes with being so close to the volcano, is that it was a bit difficult to get transport to, since it was 1.5k up hill from the outskirts of La Fortuna. But, it was relatively inexpensive at ~$6 per trip down, and then $6 back for our family of 6, so not a major downside. The other was the hot tub by the pool, which was cold the first night then too hot the next, However, both were quickly remedied by the hotel staff. There are much worse things in life...
If you don’t want to eat at the restaurant, there were some really excellent offerings in town. Not sure which was the “Most Authentic Costa Rican” food, as they all claimed to have, but we didn’t find any of them to be at all bad, and most were excellent.
Overall, we loved our visit here, and would gladly make a return visit.

Dear rocket563 Thank you so much for this comment! Our bungalows are such a special place, the comfortable, the privacy and the view are three unique things that made your stay a lovely space. We love breakfast, we understand that when you visit La Fortuna you want adventure and because breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we prepare it with love and try to offer you variety. We are 1.5 km away from the main road, but that is what allows us to be a quiet space. We hope to see you soon! Kind regards from your friends from Lomas del Volcán.

This was probably the most corporate hotel we came across in our travels and was comfortable with good facilities and allegedly superb views of the Arenal volcano - but we never saw it and barely 50% of visitors do. Good spread for breakfast and dinner was good but pricey - with staff who were 'miked' up for ease of orders, but the system plainly was not working as plates were paraded around not knowing who had ordered what. Pool was small for such a large hotel. Helpful reception staff.

Our family of 4 stayed at Lomas del Volcan for 2 nights on October 11 & 12, 2020. We were greeted when we arrived by the wonderful Jocy who told us that we were their only guests and were in fact the first ones they had had in 7 months due to COVID-19. We were shocked and both excited and nervous to have the entire property to ourselves. But wow did they take care of us. Jocy introduced us to the whole property and even gave us her cell phone number and told us to call any time of day if we needed something. She put us in unit 503 which had the most amazing view of Arenal volcano. The cabins themselves have everything you need including wonderful patios. Since they are not connected to other units even if the property was bustling it would still make you feel disconnected from other guests and like you are sleeping in the rainforest (one of the main reasons we booked). Even though we were the only guests they brought in a chef and server (Carolina) each morning to prepare us a delicious complimentary breakfast and even brought in a chef and server (Javier) for dinner one night on our request (which was also delicious). Our family loved the onsite trail through the rainforest and unwound each night at the pool and hot tub. All-in-all it was a fabulous stay and I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone staying in the La Fortuna area.

This is a 3 star hotel in a 4 star setting. The setting is lovely, and it is nice to have our own bungalows. It is quiet away from everything. The food is reasonably priced and adequate but not great quality, breakfast is good..
However the service is average at best (not well trained, had to ask for our room to be cleaned at 2pm when it was not done, ask for help with luggage, etc). There doesn’t appear to be any hot water for showers or the jacuzzi, the water gets warm but never reaches hot. There is no tea in the room and the coffee is an awful packet—it is fairly commercial here and everything has a price. The “trail” is not paved and becomes a mud bath when it rains. The pool goes from about 6 inches to 4 feet deep, is more for show than anything and was too cold to use when we stayed in August. The hotel is down a very long road that becomes very muddy halfway down so walking into town is not realistic. They do not offer free umbrellas like other places. I would only recommend staying here if you can get a good price in the off season and have a rental car.
