I recently contacted Koko resorts to book a suite for a family of two adults and two children. I was sent an option to look at which we agreed to book. I contacted Koko resorts to confirm the booking and was told to book online using the book now option which I did happily paying the 150 US dollar deposit. A couple of days later we noticed that two deposits had been taken. I contacted Koko resorts requesting they return one. I was told it had been credited to the first booking. I had not authorised a second apartment and had not supplied my credit card details either this must have been taken off their system. The balance of the booking was to be paid 45 days prior to arrival which is clearly stated on the emailed documents I received. I then received a email asking me to contact Koko resorts as they had tried to take the balance and that we risked losing our booking also the 45 day clause had been removed. I contacted Koko to clarify why they were taking the balance, the lady was rude and disrespectful I could not get a word in. She refused to refund the second 150 told me we could cancel the booking but I would lose 150 for cancelling. My husband could tell I was struggling to communicate so ask for the phone. He said to her obviously we need to speak to a manager could you give me their name so that I may speak to them. She hung up the phone. A few minutes later he phoned back and asked that she please not hang up but give him the name of the manager, she said oh here he is now and handed the phone over. My husband asked if he was the manager he replied no that he was a guest of koko and referred to my husband as an Aussie we are actually kiwis the woman was laughing in the background. In light of the behaviour I sent an email to two managers and have heard nothing. I received an email stating that the deposits had been refunded and to find alternative arrangements. I am at a lose over the way we have been treated and the lack of response from Koko. I am a business owner also and would be gravely concerned with the above behaviour. We have stayed with Koko a number of times and can not believe the deterioration in customer service and behaviour. Book at your own peril.

My wife and I came down to Bocas to look at Real estate & property. She was here 27 years ago doing research and tagging Leatherback Sea Turtles. We also saw some friends of hers who live there. We stayed at the Koko Resort for 5 nights. The staff was great very friendly & when you needed something they provided it fast. The only thing I wish they provided was coffee & sugar. Otherwise we had a excellent stay. It was nice & quiet. The beds weren’t bad. The local neighbors in the surrounding houses were friendly. If back in the area we would stay here again.

We stayed one week over the water and it was amazing. The facilities were super clean and perfect to relax. It’s perfect to swim and snorkel. We saw more starsfishes here than in Starfish Beach. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It is located just 20-min away from Bocas Town.

We really enjoyed our stay at Koko Resort! We even thought about staying longer! Great place to relax and enjoy the view! Our bungalow was very clean, had great AC and mattress, drinking water, towels and kayaks were included, convenient kitchen, great communication and we had hot water in the shower.

(Pros) The property itself was wonderful and beautiful, clean and well-kept. Big balcony with one hammock and a wood bench. Sufficient kitchen amenities (fridge, microwave, stove and dishes). Comfy beds and sheets. AC available. Bottled water provided. Now, we think that the locals near Koko Lodge are trying to fix the path and make it better for visitors, so maybe in a few years, our review may not be valid. (Cons) The surroundings of the property was terrible: property is accessed by a walking path which is surrounded by trash, poor houses by locals, sewage water, bad odor (pictures). Also, bity bugs (probably sand flies) were inside the house and bit our legs under the dinning table. Payment was only by cash or paypal. In addition, the island of Bocas Del Toro was not worth it to us: party town, dirty, expensive, very busy, remote beaches like Star Fish and Bluff were pretty but not conducive to swimming or body-boarding, only for seeing starfish (hence the name) and deadly ripe tides at the other beach (pic). And the stinging, burning splinters we got from walking back from Star Fish beach are fiberglass brought in from the boats, spreading in the environment.

Being over the water is a very unique experience at this price level. But many of the neighboring homes are locals that just dump their garbage directly into the water. The water around the cabin was clear but full of trash. It's not the owner's fault. The property itself seems very well maintained. But inside the cabin was as expected. Central a/c to keep it comfortable at night. Great wifi. Decent kitchen and spacious shower with hot water. Bottled drinking water is also provided. Clean and bright interior. It's only $1 by taxi to get to/from town and a fully stocked grocery store is only a 5 min walk away. Riccardo and Ivan were really helpful during my stay. Very easy to check in and someone was always available if I had a question or needed anything. Overall, a decent place to stay if you are looking for something out of the ordinary without spending a fortune.

Not perfect for everyone, but perfect for some....simple living on the water...if you want elegance look elsewhere...if you want simple, easy, safe, friendly, here it is..the walk to the cabana is fine, but not if you are unsteady...I love being in the hammock on the water, and will come back here, every time...thank you.

I read the disclaimer on the website, so I was fully prepared for a rustic experience. What I wasn't prepared for was the not very friendly hosts, and extremely poor condition of the property. We stayed in Orchid, which is one of the farthest cabins out. The dock walking there was full of rotten boards, so i was constantly afraid I'd go through. Then, the cabin itself was full of termites. There were shavings EVERYWHERE....stairs, floor, stove, bathroom, etc. We ended up leaving after only one night because the person who slept up in the loft bed woke up with termite shavings all over their face and bed. Mentioned it to the hosts, and they were very blase, and said "not much we can do about it". Crappy beds, surly hosts, etc. made for a one and done. I loved BDT in general and would like to go back and stay somewhere else.

The owners are really nice, but this place is beyond rustic. Cab drops you out at end of the road and you walls a block to the "resort." You walk right past an open/damaged sewer line... Literally stepped in sewage before checking in.... Transportation to town is difficult, the cabins themselves have AC, but there is zero insulation and lots of gaps in the boards so the room never cools. Lots of lose boards on the walk way, cockroaches in the bathroom daily.

AC was out but managed OK. If you want a rustic great location this is it. Exactly like it was described and the owners were fun to talk to, helpful and overall great. The son's brewery was a close walk and good beer and Ginger ale which mixed well with rum. Breakfast was great.
