Sambatra bungalows are set a few feet away from crystal clear waters. We have a white sand beach front with scattered coconut palms. Each bungalow has a covered veranda facing a beautiful blue reef allowing you to swim and snorkel at any time - please bring own snorkeling equipment. The bungalows are leaf thatched and have a very clean finish, en suite bathroom, basin, toilet and hot water shower.

We had the most wonderful time at Sambatra during our honeymoon! We can't say enough about how great this little slice of heaven is and the great job the Vincent and the team do running it. The location is simply perfect whether you want to swim, lay out on the beach, explore the island or simply relax on your front terrace watching the whales and the beautiful sunsets. We loved the ambiance of the lodge and really enjoyed the communal dinners and getting to meet the other visitors. The food was great, offering a rotating selection every daily for lunch and dinner. I especially loved the simply yet delicious breakfasts! Can't recommend this place enough. Hope to back be there again one day!

The position of the room on the beach among palm trees was idyllic. The owner Vincent was chatty and affable. The walks around the traffic free island were enjoyable. The food was ok. Negatives: the toilet is incorrectly installed. There is no slope to help effluent drain, so it quickly gets blocked with excrement and paper being difficult to flush away. Cleaning staff had to unblock the toilet every morning, sometimes leaving a lot of water on the lavatory seat and on the floor around the toilet, which, incidentally, is adjacent to the shower. Unless the toilet is reinstalled or a pump fitted, I cannot see this problem disappearing. We wanted to go snorkelling, but the resort boat, unlike some others we saw, has no sun roof, so the trip to and from the reef would have meant sitting in baking sun with no shade. OK perhaps for youngsters, but we had to abstain. The beach quickly turns into undersea grass, so the swimming area is quite limited. I had the most tasteless “gin tonic” ever here. The final bill contained a huge addition error in Sambatra’s favour, the difference exceeding 100 euros. Vincent seemed such a nice guy that I didn’t bother to check the bill. Silly me! In defence of the resort, it must be hard to run any sort of business here, and the position next to the waves on an island with few tourists is exceptional.

Perfect, We spent 5 days at Sambatra and we enjoyed everything. Vincent the host is very very kind and helpful and all the employees are wonderful. Food is very nice and the lodges in front of the beach are so so comfortable. Do not h sitate to walk everywhere in the island from the Sambatra as everything is accessible and Vincent will guide you to beautifull peacfull place with very good host like La buvette or Fafana.

This is one of these lovely places where one feels immediately at home... Vincent and his team create a relaxed, cosy and familiar atmosphere were everything is possible. Best kitchen we had during our 15 days stay in Madagascar. Thumps up for Pepe and the rest of the staff!

+ : delicious breakfast which you can take until late, really cool. Beautiful and clean garden. Nice decoration. The bungalows are large and have good mosquito nets. There are only a few bungalows which makes a peaceful and intimist atmosphere that we like. Best thing during august : you can watch whales the whole day from your bungalow. Overall relaxing atmosphere. - : there is no beach anymore since the storms, so you can lay on the terrasse of your bungalow but then there is a wall and it goes directly into the water, you can not lay in dry sand as on the pictures. Huge shower but just a few water drops. Very hard mattress. No possibility to pay anything by credit card. Price of a whale excursion is not degressive, same price per person if you are 2 or 10 people in the boat, first time that we saw this. Expensive meals even when you are vegetarian. So overall we find the quality price ratio too high. + or - depending on your mood : no wifi at all (we liked it!). Diner is served at 1 same table with other guests.

This was our third visit since 2015 and is still the best place on St Marie/Ile aux Nattes, in my view. If you want a proper ‘off grid’ holiday experience, this place is for you. There is no wifi, utter peace and tranquility, and absolutely magnificent views. The bungalows are finished to a high standard and very comfortable. The food is excellent and Vincent and team offer a great selection of 3 freshly cooked dishes per meal, along with a good variety of breakfast options. Vincent is a fantastic host - friendly, easygoing and happy to share the best of Ile aux Nattes with his guests. He took us to the local bingo night, which was great fun, and lit a campfire by the sea on our last evening. Unforgettable experience - will be back for a 4th visit!

Our family enjoyed a magnificent week at Sambatra! I wish we could have stayed longer. Vincent and Valerie are amazing hosts, and they have the best staff on the island (Jackson and Lena). We instantly felt part of the Sambatra family. This place is totally off the grid in a magical way. We spent so much time relaxing on our bungalow’s front porch and swimming in the beach 20 steps away. The food was the best we had in all of Madagascar, and it was such a treat to eat all of our dinners with other guests, as well as Vincent and Valerie. We loved the nights where we ate right on the beach with a lovely fire. My kids loved Winnie (the dog) and still talk about her constantly. They also talk about BINGO night at Lucky Dube. Be sure you include a Wednesday night in your stay to take part in this super fun evening! In short, this is a really special place. Vincent has worked hard to make it what it is today, and you get to reap the benefits. My best advice is to stop debating and book this place right now! You will be so glad you did!

We stayed at Sambatra for a week. The food is fantastic, the bungalows are simple, fresh and personal. The beach and sea on Ile Aux Nattes is paradise, right off the porch. The staff is super friendly. We wanted to stay here forever!

We really loved this place a lot!! So beautiful setting and people! Vincent and his team were so nice and helpful and it was the only place in our whole madagascar trip where all the guests were eating together in one table like a family and therefore got in better contact as in the other hotels and as well while going alltogether to the funny Bingo game at the reggae bar „Lucky Dube“ where we had a very funny evening while playing bingo, eating pizza and drinking beer. Vincent won the greatest bingo jackpot of all time at the Reggae Bar and gave free beer for every table and left a lot of the money in the bingo jackpot for the next wednesday. We really felt like on a dream tropical island on Ile aux Nattes. 100% recommendation! Thanks again Vince to you and your lovely team!!

7 stars. You won't believe it until you see it. There are very few places as you travel in the world that truly capture you. Hyperbole aside, this is one of those places. The curated experience from Vincent & Valerie, plus their staff, plus the communal vibe of your fellow guests, plus the indescribable physical location of this place - you are guaranteed magic. The best place I've ever been that I can never describe to anyone who was not there.
