Sambatra bungalows are set a few feet away from crystal clear waters. We have a white sand beach front with scattered coconut palms. Each bungalow has a covered veranda facing a beautiful blue reef allowing you to swim and snorkel at any time - please bring own snorkeling equipment. The bungalows are leaf thatched and have a very clean finish, en suite bathroom, basin, toilet and hot water shower.
+ : delicious breakfast which you can take until late, really cool. Beautiful and clean garden. Nice decoration. The bungalows are large and have good mosquito nets. There are only a few bungalows which makes a peaceful and intimist atmosphere that we like. Best thing during august : you can watch whales the whole day from your bungalow. Overall relaxing atmosphere.
- : there is no beach anymore since the storms, so you can lay on the terrasse of your bungalow but then there is a wall and it goes directly into the water, you can not lay in dry sand as on the pictures. Huge shower but just a few water drops. Very hard mattress. No possibility to pay anything by credit card. Price of a whale excursion is not degressive, same price per person if you are 2 or 10 people in the boat, first time that we saw this. Expensive meals even when you are vegetarian. So overall we find the quality price ratio too high.
+ or - depending on your mood : no wifi at all (we liked it!). Diner is served at 1 same table with other guests.

We had the most wonderful time at Sambatra during our honeymoon! We can't say enough about how great this little slice of heaven is and the great job the Vincent and the team do running it.
The location is simply perfect whether you want to swim, lay out on the beach, explore the island or simply relax on your front terrace watching the whales and the beautiful sunsets.
We loved the ambiance of the lodge and really enjoyed the communal dinners and getting to meet the other visitors. The food was great, offering a rotating selection every daily for lunch and dinner. I especially loved the simply yet delicious breakfasts!
Can't recommend this place enough.
Hope to back be there again one day!

Sambatra Lodge really helped me out when I started out staying at the south of the island, and found the beach and area was not what I had hoped for at all. Sambatra was totally different to that. The beach was beautiful, the water deeper and the bungalows all had an ocean view from their patio with sun loungers. The owners, Vincent & Valerie couldn’t have been nicer, and Vincent went to great lengths to introduce me to all the other guests and make me feel very welcome, which was lovely as I was travelling solo. I’ve never known anyone else to do this. At dinner time all of us shared a long table, which was so much fun! There are several areas to relax, with comfy chairs, which was also very welcome. Bungalows have a lovely comfy bed, with mozzy nets that were actually big enough for the bed, which made a nice change in Madagascar. Even after I had gone back to my hotel on main island of Sainte Marie, Vincent still came to pick me up for a great morning of whale watching with the guests I had met before, and it was greatly appreciated.

The position of the room on the beach among palm trees was idyllic. The owner Vincent was chatty and affable. The walks around the traffic free island were enjoyable. The food was ok. Negatives: the toilet is incorrectly installed. There is no slope to help effluent drain, so it quickly gets blocked with excrement and paper being difficult to flush away. Cleaning staff had to unblock the toilet every morning, sometimes leaving a lot of water on the lavatory seat and on the floor around the toilet, which, incidentally, is adjacent to the shower. Unless the toilet is reinstalled or a pump fitted, I cannot see this problem disappearing. We wanted to go snorkelling, but the resort boat, unlike some others we saw, has no sun roof, so the trip to and from the reef would have meant sitting in baking sun with no shade. OK perhaps for youngsters, but we had to abstain. The beach quickly turns into undersea grass, so the swimming area is quite limited. I had the most tasteless “gin tonic” ever here. The final bill contained a huge addition error in Sambatra’s favour, the difference exceeding 100 euros. Vincent seemed such a nice guy that I didn’t bother to check the bill. Silly me! In defence of the resort, it must be hard to run any sort of business here, and the position next to the waves on an island with few tourists is exceptional.

This was our third visit since 2015 and is still the best place on St Marie/Ile aux Nattes, in my view.
If you want a proper ‘off grid’ holiday experience, this place is for you. There is no wifi, utter peace and tranquility, and absolutely magnificent views.
The bungalows are finished to a high standard and very comfortable. The food is excellent and Vincent and team offer a great selection of 3 freshly cooked dishes per meal, along with a good variety of breakfast options.
Vincent is a fantastic host - friendly, easygoing and happy to share the best of Ile aux Nattes with his guests. He took us to the local bingo night, which was great fun, and lit a campfire by the sea on our last evening.
Unforgettable experience - will be back for a 4th visit!

We spent 5 days at Sambatra and we enjoyed everything. Vincent the host is very very kind and helpful and all the employees are wonderful. Food is very nice and the lodges in front of the beach are so so comfortable. Do not h sitate to walk everywhere in the island from the Sambatra as everything is accessible and Vincent will guide you to beautifull peacfull place with very good host like La buvette or Fafana.

2nd stay at Sambatra Lodge for us and it was really great We really like the welcome and the table d'hôte principle, as well as the cuisine, always based on fresh produce. The bungalows are right in the sand, with a sea view and very high quality: suitable for tall people and equipped with plenty of storage space. The +: it’s also a baby-friendly hotel! Access by canoe (15 minutes from the point) is very pleasant. We really liked the swimming pool, the bar and the evening by the fire, there is really a very special atmosphere at Sambatra Thank you very much Valérie, Vince and the whole team. See you soon

My girlfriend and I stayed at Sambatra for three nights and we loved it! The island (Île aux Nattes) is very special, the lodges are excellent, the location is stunning and the owner has become a friend. You can even see whales from the veranda of your lodge.

Everything is perfect. Postcard place, pristine beaches, crystal clear water, wild nature. A dream come true. Sambatra perfectly reflects the surrounding environment, a simple and welcoming structure, equipped with all comforts (for those seeking an authentic experience and contact with nature). Vincent and Valerie together with their staff pamper guests with a family hospitality, spoil you with excellent meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner according to your needs, accompany you with their whale watching boat (unique and wonderful experience), tell you about the island , which you can visit walking through lush nature and authentic villages, give you information on any movements and create a magical synergy between all guests while giving them all the necessary privacy. Bungalows in Sambatra have beautiful sea views, with unique sunsets and nights illuminated by a starry sky and lulled by the sound of the sea waves. An island still unknown to mass tourism, a true paradise
A journey that will remain in our hearts as well as the people we met.

We were 19 days guests at Vincent and Valerie and every day was like a new day in paradise. The lodge is just a dream, you feel at every point that Vincent has created his little piece of paradise here and shares it with his guests. From the welcome to the farewell we not only felt comfortable but really warmly welcomed. The lodge and the beach were super clean, the food great and the staff always there to fulfill all our wishes. The best thing, however, were the people we met there. Unlike other hotels, you usually gather around a long table in the evening and stories have been shared and at the latest when the "Rum Schiff" arrives the atmosphere is just perfect. Please come to this place, there is no such thing anywhere in the world and I so much wish that this very special energy that prevails there will be preserved for a very long time. Thank you Vincent, thank you Valerie that we were able to velve the concept for time with you for 19 days and replace it with the important things like rest and serenity.
