Review: Blue Bahia Just finished a week-long stay here, and it was fantastic. Seriously, 10/10 would stay here again. Accommodation: We stayed in one of the Sunset View rooms over the restaurant. Good, clean and comfortable with a fantastic patio that, unsurprisingly, was a great place to see the sunset. Kitchen was big and provisioned enough that we made our own breakfast most days. Despite having our bedroom right over the bar, the noise never got to us. Location: I liked that Sandy Bay is a quieter area than the bigger touristy spots like West End and West Bay — particularly on days when the cruise ships were in port at Coxen Hole. That said, those areas are pretty short cab rides away, so they’re accessible enough. Beyond that, it’s a quick walk to a couple other resorts that provide other options for getting a drink or a meal. Diving: I went diving with Sandy Bay Divers, which is located within the Blue Bahia resort but has different owners. They were great, too. It was telling that almost each dive I took had a group that usually included at least one local. It’s very much a community type vibe. Kristi and John run it well, and Ernie and Mekela were great dive masters. Food: We enjoyed the restaurant in the resort, too. Good food, good service. Perhaps my biggest regret of the trip was going to another restaurant when the Beach Grill had their weekly wings special. Normally I enjoying eating the local fare when traveling, but the owners of the resort and restaurant are from Buffalo, which made it more intriguing. Staff: Which brings me to the best part of Blue Bahia: the management and staff team. Becca and Adam (resort managers) were super welcoming and responsive. I particularly appreciated their willingness to offer recommendations of other restaurants, as well as calling cabs to help us get there. Becca even hauled ass to the airport on our departure day to bring me the wedding ring that I’d stupidly left in the safe. She didn’t have to do it, still she did with a smile. That feeling pervades throughout the staff. A few nights, my wife and I played cards at the bar with Carlos, Jessy and/or Adam. It was comfortable enough that we got all the usual trash talk. Just a super fun, laidback way to spend a week. (Caution, however: Carlos, in particular, is a shark with an Uno deck.)…
