We stayed at the Windsor Martinique from Dec 23 (evening), 2020 to Jan 2 (evening) 2021. Our trip began at a separate hotel as a nightmare and became a dream when we checked in to the Windsor Martinique. We arrived in Rio and caught a cab to our hotel (NOT the Windsor Martinique) only to find that it had closed due to a Covid-19 outbreak. The hotel had booked us a room elsewhere and we were taken there. The new hotel was horrible. It was dirty, in an area of town we didn't want to be in, the bed folded like a taco when sat on, etc. We contacted our travel agent back home and she found the Windsor Martinique. We checked out of the new hotel and headed to the Windsor Martinique. We arrived and immediately felt at ease when we pulled up to a hotel with guards by the door, close to the beach, with a cozy looking clean lobby and smiling men at check-in. Wesley and Sergio were at the front desk. They had busboy, Celso take us to the room to see if it was adequate prior to accepting the room and checking-in. The room was beautiful. It was clean, had a working AC, comfortable bed, and was a corner room with view to the Copacabana beach. We immediately returned downstairs and checked-in. We enjoyed talking with Wesley. He spoke immaculate English and shared some of his previous work history aboard a cruise ship. He and Sergio put us at ease with their friendliness. We came downstairs and had a late dinner in the restaurant. Our server was Luis was wonderful. Our pizza's were delicious. The following morning we came downstairs for breakfast (it was included) and met Aylin and Claudio at the front desk. We also met a new busboy, Celestino. Again, we were immediately at ease. We went in to breakfast and seated ourselves. To protect guests, we pointed or said what we desired in the buffet and were served by the wait staff (they wore gloves). Our morning servers were Flavio and Rafael. The food was plentiful and delicious. We did a couple of tours which were offered by the hotel and enjoyed them immensely. They included an all-day tour of the city (including Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mtn., Selaron Stairs, etc). We also did a half-day tour in the Tijuca Forest. We also chose to eat dinner elsewhere one evening when I was craving Fettuccini Alfredo. Elaine at the front desk recommended a restaurant that she and her husband frequent. We loved it there. It is always a delight to enjoy places frequented by locals instead of just tourists. The alfredo was also super cheesy and divine. For New Years, much of Copacabana closed down and guests had to have proof they belonged there if they went out to enjoy festivities. The Window Martinique gave guests bracelets. We chose to stay in and watch the festivities unfold from our window. Our final day we checked out late as had red eye flight home. My husband had been searching for an old coin that is no longer used and Celestino brought two to the room for him. You should have seen my husbands delight to add these coins to his collection. The restaurant staff quickly learned what we liked and even did a special cooking of cheese balls for my husband (they were not on the menu for that morning, but they did them special for him and surprised him). We again wanted to thank everyone at the Windsor Martinique for making our stay extra special. Thank you to Wesley, Sergio, Claudio, Aylin, Elaine, Pedro, Celso, Celestino, Luis, Rafael, Flavio, Manuelo, Bruno and all of those we didn't get to know personally that helped make our stay a wonderful experience. Should we return to Rio, we undoubtedly will stay once again at the Windsor Martinique.…
Excellent location a few minutes away from the glorious Copacabana beach. Staff were fairly friendly and they offered beach towels and even umbrellas to take out with you. Room was ok, bathroom a little tired, bed was huge and comfortable. Breakfast whilst not plentiful was more than adequate
This little hotel, a block from Copacabana beach, was just right for our stay in Rio. We had come for Carnaval and some serious beach time as well as time to visit some of the city's wonders. As other reviews have pointed out, the rooms are on the small side, but very comfortable with large bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was outstanding - plenty of healthy options that didn't stretch the waistline! As is always the case, it is the staff who make a hotel worth a repeat visit. Hotel Martinique has a wonderful staff who were available, knowledgable and more than helpful. I hope to stay again.
My Wife and I stayed at the hotel during the 2020 Rio Carnival. The hotel staff were great; really helpful and organised us transfers to and from the Sambadrome. The room was clean and in good condition. The location is great for accessing the Copacabana beach and is also only a short walk to Ipanema.
3 day stay in Rio and this hotel was the perfect option! Rooms are cosy but have everything you might need including comfortable beds, a safe and a huge shower. The breakfast offers all the choice you might need, even gluten free bread. And it's only a stone's throw from Copacabana beach. But the real luxury of the hotel is its staff! Always ready to please, they are attentive to every detail whether for food, drinks, a taxi or your luggage. And the security detail at the front door have eyes open at all times to avoid any nasty encounters. We were especially touched by one of the valets, Celestino, with his kindness and Generosity. A huge thank you to all the team.
