I only needed to stay here for one night but definitely would have stayed longer. The staff are very welcoming, speak good English and were eager to help with everything I needed. Showers and toilets are clean, bedrooms are well kept and comfy (with air conditioning). Fantastic social space on the roof terrace.

We at Kaza Rio for 10 night over Carnival and the staff here were fantastic! Showing us lots of places to go and took us to Blocos. Really close to a supermarket and metro stop, which was very handy. The kitchen is super basic but functional. Could do with more hobs/an oven, you are sharing with a lot of people. Although the room was tight, we were lucky with our room (others reported they didn’t have aircon). The showers were okay and the bathrooms were cleaned each day. Atmosphere was great for carnival! The hostel could do with a better sign outside, it was hard to find initially.

Hi Tamsinbest! We are very glad that you had a fantastic time with us! We work hard to make sure that all our guests can have the best experience. We do have rooms with AC and Fan, it's to make sure that those who doesn't like AC also have a chance to enjoy the same great experience! We don't have a sign on purpose, our idea is to welcome you as you were at your home away from home.

Kaza Rio is like staying in your friend's place. It's fun, cool, but also clean and safe. A great place to come back to after a long day exploring the most beautiful city in the world. I have already recommended it to my friends!

We said in the check in that we will arrive in 23:00 and it took a little bit more because our flight was delayed a bit and it took 1 hour to the staff to open the door(clearly they knew we need to arrive).. we knocked the door for 1 hour until they opened.. the rooms were small no ac and they wanted to charge us for a late check in.. the hostel is really bad.. in an unfriendly neighborhood.. stay away from it

We are truly sorry that your experience wasn't as we like to offer. Unfortunately this is not true. You didn't let us know that you would arrive at the hostel after our work times. Once you arrived, took us exactly 15 minutes to check who was. We do charge a fee for late checkin, and it's written on the website that you made your reservation and in the email that we sent to you, We do have rooms with AC and costs R$5.00 more. Some guests prefer that way, unfortunately you want the room with AC and didn't want to pay the difference. Our neighborhood is very safe, in 6 years that we are here no one had any kind of trouble! Its a traditional and non touristic area, if you wanna know the real side of Rio!

I dont understand how the hell people rate it 5 stars.. the hostel is so small.. alot of stairs.. far from the center of rio.. no ac so its hot like hell.. so many mouskitos that avg time for bite is 30 seconds.. the rooms has no space at all.. the staff is nice but a nice staff is clearly not enough!! If you have brain in your head stay away from this hostel!!!!

Noam we are truly sorry that you feel this way about our hostel, as you can see by most other reviews we do a pretty good job. We try hard, so we offer room with AC and fan, usually the price difference is R$ 5.00 from a Room with AC from one with a fan. Some guests don't like Ac and some guests prefer to have the option to save some money. Maybe since you arrived after our reception hours, almost destroyed our gate, demanding to have a superior room paying the price of the standard, you didn't have the time to see our two lovely rooftops, BBQ area, also hadn't enough time to check our bathrooms and the entire building that is always clean, or even didn't have the time to check that city center is 5 minutes away. Maybe next time you can come and enjoy the experience that we make sure to offer to our guests.
