Were there during carnival first week, location of hotel perfect for enjoying carnival. Staff superb, very helpful and courteous. Through reception, we got tickets for carnival , even if it was so late. Taxi available right at front of the hotel . Rooms are spacious, with all the amenities. Had buffet at Restaurant, numerous dishes.

Hotel in centre of Rio access to all the interests to tourist. Most within walking distance. Nice pool and good staff. Breakfast choice excellent. Rooms well fitted out. Recommended. My only negative comment is no tea/coffee kettle in room which for the price paid is poor for this standard of hotel.

I actually had 2 comfortable nights at this hotel but their website just kept on charging my credit card over and over. Thankfully, it showed up on my phone, so I was able to inform the staff and show them the receipt at the time. A very helpful front receptionist said he would contact the finance department and that when I checked out early the next morning' it would all have been rectified. When I went to reception, no one could help and I was told to wait for the manager who would be on duty after my flight left..... So far, no response from this hotel and no money back.I've contacted my credit card provider and so I now have to battle to get my money back. My experience of checking in was in I’m afraid to say, truly awful. I arrived at 5am and the older gentleman checking me in was ignorant. Apparently, he was the ‘English speaker’ on duty and he completely ignored me when I asked a question. I received no information whatsoever about breakfast times, where facilities in the hotel were and he didn’t even have the good manners to look up at me when I checked in, he just opened his hand for my passport. He started huffing and getting obviously irritated when I asked if it were possible to arrange a later breakfast as I wouldn’t be getting to bed u TIL 6am, despite having to pay for the hotel for the night before. The guy actually just ignored me until I asked him directly and he didn’t even look up and said ‘no’ in a really annoyed manner. Great customer service, thanks! Thankfully, when I had need to speak to reception staff during the day, this was a much better experience. I spoke to a young woman and on another occasion a young uni man who were friendly and helpful, so much so, I decided to stay again on my return trip the following week. That was up until they kept charging my credit card, firstly through the own hotels website that said the transaction failed but charged the credit card and then again when duplicate monies had been charged by the hotel. Mistakes happen. It it how quickly and satisfactorily they are sorted that makes the difference between staying there again and avoiding it. Would I recommend staying here? Yes, breakfast is good and the hotel was clean and quiet on the 19th floor. It is dated and could do with updating but it is not bad value when they don’t empty your bank account! Just pay in cash if you’re staying there and avoid that nasty old man on reception who works at night.

Estimated Mrs. Lisa McClintock, Your review is important so we can reverse this first impression made upon your arrival. All theses observations, negative and positive, will be sent to our management to take the further actions with our Staff. Windsor Guanabara focus on training and courses to offer the best customer service. Regarding the credit card charged more than one time, when you came back on the second stay on February 8th (First one at January 30th), our hotel brought to you the cancellation receipt of the transactions attempts and we also solved this problem related with the IT support. We hope that the second stay at Windsor Guanabara Hotel was better and our Hotel waits for you on a third time, to enjoy the Downtown area of Rio de Janeiro. Best Regards, Bruno Rodrigues

It was alright nothing to brag about but did the job. I could always find something good to eat during meal times. The pool is small but has a nice atmosphere when I was using it .The gym is small and has a few older machines but useable. The location is great and it’s right beside a train station if you want to venture somewhere else.

I must admit, after staying in 4 and 5 star hotels for two weeks, I was really skeptical when the airline sent us to the Windsor Guanabara due to a flight delay. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped—hair dryers, refrigerator, make up mirror, comfortable bed, large tub/shower with good water pressure. This was the first hotel in Brazil where the outlets accommodated our plugs. The dinner and breakfast buffets were plentiful and well stocked. Not luxurious, but still offering lots of choices. Although only the reception desk spoke good English, everyone else was kind and helpful and make themselves understood. You could tell they cared about your comfort and experience. You can tell this hotel has faded glory, as another reviewer wrote, but I gave it 4 stars because our expectations were exceeded. At a fraction of the price of our last few stays, this was a surprisingly pleasant experience.
