In the midst of COVID-19 anxiety and restrictions, we enjoyed a wonderful 2 day weekend respite from the crazy in the secluded hill top gem that is the Santa Teresa Hotel. Formerly a super exclusive Relais & Châteaux property, this staff is really amazing. Everyone is kind and focused on guest satisfaction. We had a lovely historic room with a garden terrace. It was chic and timeless. It is not perfect, but everything worked and had a kind of disheveled elegance that typifies this fun artsy neighborhood. We always felt safe walking in Santa Teresa and were pleasantly surprised by the warm hospitality we experienced. The pool and sun deck in the lovely garden were a real highlight. So quiet and luxurious feeling. The breakfast deserves a special mention. Made to order and a complete buffet of delicious treats for everyone's taste. So pleasant to sit in the open window and sip my coffee to the peel of bells across the city. A really joy that even now (Months later) brings a smile to my face. This is one of those small quaint hotels that makes any kind of travel a pleasure (work or play). A delight really. We also used the spa and found they had excellent and skilled massage therapists who made us feel very welcome too.

As always, it is people who make the difference. In the hospitality industry, it is the people who are screened and carefully selected - and subsequently groomed & trained with time-tested procedures to meet high standards & expectations - that make the difference. A 5-star hotel needs 5-star people in every department - from reception, housekeeping & dining to security & maintenance - to provide a pleasant & comfortable (and hopefully memorable) experience for its guests. In this light, we are grateful to 5-star people such as Natalie (manager), Clarissa & Victor at reception and Luana, Daniel & Christiano at the restaurant ... and others whose names we do not know (our apologies). This is the most humble boutique property we have stayed at under the Sofitel/Accor brand over the last 40+ years of international travel. It is small, charming and rustic but modernized with comforts you would expect at a 5-star establishment. Cheers!

A very nice surprise in Rio de Janeiro, hidden in the old neighborhood of Santa Teresa, overlooking the city. Nicely refurbished, with ample and well decorated rooms and a splendid garden, along with a swimming-pool and a terrace. Very friendly atmosphere and professional service, we got an upgrade to make our stay more enjoyable. Excellent breakfast in the Thereze restaurant, with great and varied food options while enjoying the views. A highly recommended choice to discover a different and less-known part of Rio.

A most beautiful boutique hotel in an enchanting historic neighbourhood. Santa Teresa may not be anywhere near the beach but it exudes style and charm. They do have lovely grounds and a small pool. Building is an original 1850's coffee farm building that has been sensitively brought up to date for the 21st century traveller. A piece of history. Cobbled streets in this neighbourhood and some wonderful old 19th Century properties. Delightful staff. An elegant historic property that is very relaxing yet so close to all the tourist attractions of this wonderful city.
