I spent four days in Kuala Lumpur for leisure and had spent a long time searching for a traditional hotel, only to find them to either very expensive or very small. Through my search, I happened onto Lanson Place which has had rave reviews by previous guests and so I opted to stay here for four nights. I am glad to say that I could not be more happy with my choice! I stayed in a one bedroom apartment on the 12th floor. The property itself has 48 floors, although in a city of tall buildings/skyscrapers, this may not seem immediately apparent. Check-in: The checkin was seamless and welcoming. I had pre-booked/paid but had to leave a deposit in USD (or Ringgit) which was refundable on departure. There was a good explanation of the facilities, including gym, pool area, lounge and the room itself. I was offered assistance as well to take my bag to the room but this was not necessary. Room/apartment: I stayed in a one bedroom flat which would be ideal for a couple or those with a young family. I understand that there are also two bedroom flats available. The flat is spacious, high ceilinged and well lit. Most importantly, it was spotlessly clean and dust free and has a LOT of storage space as well as a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, oven and washer/dryer. The sitting room has a large L-shaped sofa and the bed room a large, king sized bed with a range of pillows and cupboards including a safe The bathroom is similarly large, with a walk in shower and the usual amenities including towels, toothbrush, vanity kit etc There are a couple of small convenience stores just a couple of hundred metres away in case one wishes to get food and drinks for snacking or cooking Lounge: The lounge and gym are on the 48th floor with direct access through speedy lifts available for the resident The lounge is split over two levels and includes spacious sitting areas, work desks, computers, a pool table and most impressively, an impressive view of the surrounding area including views of the Menara 118, the second tallest building in the world! Its worth taking a camera to take snaps of the area as you’ll be pressed to get a better view A breakfast is also served for MYR 63.50 per adult in the lounge until 1030. I did not have this myself. Gym: The gym is well equipped with brand new techno gym equipment, free weights and resistance bands The gym is comparatively small given the size of the property but I was mostly alone whenever I went. There were towels and water provided and again, the views during the workout were excellent Additionally, the gym was spotlessly clean with no semblance of dust and dirt on any of the equipment Pool: The pool is on the 5th floor of the property It is also shared by a number of surrounding buildings and has a few pool areas. The main pool is an Olympic length pool for lane swimming with lounge chair around it A second long infinity pool and associated children’s pool and a jacuzzi that could easily accommodate 8 or 10 people at once (if needed) There was additionally a couple of cafe areas that were closed in the morning but i understood were open through the day serving drinks and food On the inside were a couple of meeting rooms, a small library and a children’s play area. All in all, a family could comfortably spend a day by the pool. Additionally, given the height of the buildings, there is a built in protection against the sun and heat with a cool feeling near the pool The local area: The local area had an upmarket feel and was extremely quiet even at the peak of the day There are a number of bars and restaurants within a five minutes walk and about fifteen minutes away is a very large central shopping district where one can find absolutely anything The main sites like the Petronas twin towers and Batu cave are about a twenty to thirty minutes car ride away. There are also public transport options as well. Overall, I was very impressed by Lanson Place. It is an excellent alternative to a traditional hotel, particularly if travelling with family. It is also a very affordable alternative rather than spending on a high end luxury hotel. It is also in close enough proximity to all the central places that one doesn’t feel disconnected and it’s a great place to explore the city. The amenities, views and service were all excellent. That said it is not a five star hotel so doesn’t have luxuries like a spa, business centre etc but its unlikely that you would want this in a family holiday. All in all, well worth staying at, whether for a few days or a few weeks!…
