I've stayed at the classy, elegant, historic Okura four times now and it's always a great experience. The rooms are a good size and well-designed, beds are very comfortable, as are the lounge chairs with matching footrests, there's a long desk with a good reading lamp, wheeled desk chair, small table, heaps of storage space, huge mirrors, a big tv, a fridge and a safe. Complimentary green and Ceylon tea, drip coffee bags and canned water (there's also a mini bar). I love the welcoming origami cranes! A spacious bathroom with a large sink and bath, ample bench space and a generous allocation of toiletries. Yukata are provided.

Last time I had just glimpses of the river as it was partly obscured by a block of flats, but this time I had a really good view of it and beyond across the city, including many key sights, and the mountains. The hotel provides an east and west illustration with the names of each peak and some of the landmarks.

All the food, including for me Japanese breakfast, room service dinners and cakes from the shop in the lobby, was, as usual, delicious and beautifully presented.

The location is perfect, close to many sights, shops and eateries, as well as the river, and with a subway station directly accessible from the basement. Usually there's taxis right outside, either booked or waiting.

Housekeeping is perfect, they replenish everything needed but don't wastefully take away things being used like slippers, body towels, body shampoo etc.

The staff will go out of their way to help you, which became particularly obvious when I fractured my kneecap on the last day of my stay (I had a fall in Higashiyama when I moved abruptly to avoid a speeding motorbike). I needed surgery and as recommended by the Kyoto hospital I decided to return to Australia for that. It took a few days for the insurance company to arrange my flights, and the hotel was able to accommodate me for the extra three nights. The staff arranged it so I didn't even have to change rooms! I'd already had my wheelie sent on to my next destination, Takamatsu, and a staff member called the hotel there and organised its return. Housekeeping was undertaken at agreed times, and done very quickly while I sat in the lobby. Someone would then find me to tell me it was done. Every time a staff member saw me with the crutches, they'd rush to escort me to the lift and offer any additional help. My customised transport to Osaka Itami Airport was efficiently pre-booked in about two minutes. Next day I was escorted to the vehicle and did not have to lift any of my luggage. I so much appreciated all of that! It's not easy being alone a long way from home after a partly immobilising injury, and if I'd had to choose where to stay during the waiting time, I couldn't have chosen better than the Okura. Thank you all so much!! I can't wait to return!

When reserving a room, I found it easier to find a good room on the One Harmony website than on a general reservation site. Maybe they give priority to it?

It is said that hotel prices are rising dramatically due to inbound demand, but Okura seems to keep prices reasonable.

This time, I stayed in a corner deluxe twin room for two nights to attend a relative's wedding. So, I spent a lot of time in the room, but the room was spacious so I was able to relax.

The luxury of the lobby lounge, the richness of the restaurant (although I didn't use it this time), and the thorough training of the staff are all things Okura-like.

The focaccia from the bakery in the basement that I had for a snack was delicious.

The only thing I would like is for guests staying multiple nights to be asked about the time they would like their room cleaned. I remember that at the Okura in Kobe, they asked me about it, which was very convenient for us since we often spend time relaxing in our rooms.

Since the hotel is built on the site of the Choshu clan mansion, there is a life-sized bronze statue of Katsura Kogoro facing Kawaramachi Street.
No one notices it, so it's a little lonely.
I stayed in a room on the Higashiyama side for five nights, and I never got tired of the view, especially seeing the Kamo River swollen from heavy rain for the first time.
I was with my wife in a wheelchair, but all the staff were kind and we were able to relax and enjoy hotel life.
We ate at the restaurants Horizonte, Pitresque, Tokiwa, and Leg Court, and the food was delicious and the consideration for wheelchairs was impressive.
There were many foreign guests, but the breakfast buffet was also calm.
This hotel is directly connected to the Zest underground shopping mall and the Higashiyama subway line station on the second basement floor, so you can go out without getting wet even in the rain.
There is a glass door at the entrance, and every time I brought my wife in a wheelchair, a customer helped her get in and out.
Even in the elevator, both Japanese and foreigners were kind to wheelchair users.
Finally, the bakery on the second basement floor has a lot of delicious bread, so many locals come just to buy bread. My recommendation is the anpan (sweet bean paste bread).

I stayed here for two nights during my trip to Kyoto. The hotel has a "Welcome Lounge" in front of Kyoto Station, so it was very convenient to be able to leave my luggage and go sightseeing immediately after arriving at Kyoto Station. Your luggage will be sent to your hotel room, and you can pick up your luggage from the hotel by stopping by the lounge on your way back. The hotel is next to Kyoto City Hall, and has excellent access to subways and buses to go to tourist spots, and is in a very convenient location within walking distance of Kamogawa River, Gion, Shijo, Sanjo, and other downtown areas. The hotel building is solid and a little old, but it has the dignity of a long-established hotel that represents Kyoto. The doorman and the front desk staff at check-in and check-out were very polite, and there are many stores in the building, including in the basement, so it has a lively atmosphere. I stayed in a standard twin room in the lowest class, but it was 37 square meters and very spacious. The room I stayed in was on the 8th floor facing the city hall. There was nothing special about the view from the window. All the necessary amenities were available, and although the facilities were old, they were clean and I was very satisfied. I come to Kyoto every year, so I would like to stay at this hotel again.

I am drawn to Kyoto. Perhaps it is because Japanese history and personal memories intersect there. I would like to stay in Kyoto for a few nights each season. Hotel Okura Kyoto is a wonderful place to stay. It is quiet and bright, and all the hotel staff are very kind and pleasant. The price is reasonable for a single room if you choose the right time of year, and it suits me in many ways. It is very convenient, as it is very close to the Kyoto City Hall subway station. Keihan Sanjo is also nearby. You can walk to Hankyu Kawaramachi, so you will never get bored. In addition, the nature of Kamogawa River and Higashiyama is abundant. For me, the highlight of my stay is the Japanese breakfast served by Irifune in my room. The delicate yet powerful menu unique to the season is beautiful to look at, and I am enchanted by the room with the morning sun shining softly into it. Having the food delivered to me, feeling energized by the smile of the person who delivered it, and eating a delicious and healthy Japanese breakfast that was prepared with love - and in Kyoto, too. Is there anything more happy than this? The ingredients are reliable and genuine, and each ingredient's natural flavor is brought out at its best. Health and happiness lie in food, and at Hotel Okura Kyoto, you can experience this with the Japanese room service breakfast. It feels like my life expectancy has been extended, and I am very grateful.

Again, I stayed overnight on a private trip. The hotel is located underground from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae subway station, so you can enter without getting wet even if it rains. There are also large car stops, so you can go by car without any problems.
The room was very clean and I could spend a lot of time with a single.
The hotel employees were very smiley and served first-class customers.
I've stayed at the hotel several times, but when I go to Kyoto, I want to stay again.

First of all, the room is dark. If you try to relax and read, you will definitely damage your eyes. Do they think a dark room is cool? There was a cheap lamp there, perhaps because they were skimping on the renovation, but it didn't fit in the room at all and it was not very convenient to use.
Also, I booked directly online (I thought it said high floor guaranteed) and ended up on the 9th floor. I was a little disappointed for a room that cost over 70,000 yen for two nights. Although the view was not as good as the restaurant on the 17th floor, the roofs of the buildings in front of us blocked the view from the 9th floor, and we could not see the Takase River at all, and even the Kamo River was only slightly visible. I'm sure the view would be much better if we were on the 12th floor or higher. (My wife said the 15th floor was fine when she stayed there before, so we chose this floor this time). It was a winter weekday that day, and it looked like that floor was empty, so I wonder why they didn't give us a higher floor. I think it would probably be better to stay at a business hotel with a good view than to stay on the 8th floor or lower.
Furthermore, after 6am, there was a lot of banging noise from the guests on the upper floors, probably because they were packing their bags, and the building was not soundproof.
Finally, I asked the bellgirl to make a reservation for the hotel's French restaurant (there is a discount for one group per day) for the second day after I finished work, but although she initially said it was OK, she later told me that she could only make a reservation at the non-discounted price. I was thinking it would be about 20,000 yen per person, but for that price I could go to a Michelin one-star restaurant for a little extra. I wish they would give a discount to guests so that we could enjoy our hotel life comfortably, but they said it was the same as for restaurant reservations from outside. In conclusion, the location is good, and the service, including the front desk, was quite good, but next time I think I'll stay at the Ritz or somewhere else.

A hotel where you can relax with peace of mind in many aspects. Especially the cleanliness, the delicious food and the simple but precise response of the staff make me feel comfortable. Also, this time in sweltering midsummer Kyoto, I was helped a lot by a shuttle flight.
There are many great hotels in Kyoto, but I would like to stay in Okura next time.

We stayed here as a family for my daughter's birthday.
When we asked them to decorate the bed in the room with balloons, they gladly accepted. As soon as we entered the room, my daughter was overjoyed! The cake we had asked them to prepare was brought right away, and she was so touched and pleased.
Thanks to your cooperation, it was a memorable birthday.
Thank you very much.
I would like to stay here again!
For lunch, we had a buffet at the Chinese restaurant Tohri. Everything was delicious. However, although we were told that the last order was an hour after we entered the restaurant, they took our first order 30 minutes after we entered. Since it didn't arrive right away, we only had about 20 minutes until the last order, so it was a busy meal. There were no staff around at all, and they didn't even notice us raising our hands the whole time. The customers around us were grumbling and complaining, and I wondered if that was okay for an expensive buffet...

I learned from a flyer in my room that I could enjoy a course meal by Executive Chef Hajime Nakata at Rec Court, so I went there the next day at lunchtime. I was told that he doesn't accept reservations, which was a nice change of pace. It's nice to be able to get a seat by making a reservation, but it was also nice to be free to choose a course meal. After walking around the town, I sat down with a pleasant feeling of hunger and ordered a course meal. This time, ingredients from neighboring Hyogo Prefecture were used, and I was impressed by how the ingredients I'm familiar with, such as Tamba black beans, Tamba chestnuts, red sea bream from the Seto Inland Sea, and Kobe wine, were each prepared with skill and care into a masterpiece. The taste was warm and gentle, and the natural aroma of the ingredients was soft and made the meal go down well. When Mr. Nakata was working at the Kobe Okura, I attended the dinner party celebrating the 25th anniversary of his opening. I remember that the dessert was a beautiful white cake, which I felt was pure and prayerful. Ten years have passed since then, and the food this time was even more well-rounded and impressive. It was a happy time.

That sounds a lovely trip and I hope you'll have a great time! Never been to Munich or Switzerland except on a day trip. I have been to Amsterdam and Belgium. Bruges and Ghent are charming and I visited Ypres for the Last post Ceremony. This was very moving but there's not much else there-a small town which has been lovingly and carefully reconstructed as there was huge damage in the war. There are a lot of battlefield tours if you're interested in history. London has plenty to see but is very busy and expensive to stay, eat, do tourist stuff, so personally I wouldn't stay long there Paris is lovely and you can get around on a river cruise, hopping on and off. There are less expensive small hotels there in the City. Again, personally I wouldn't stay anywhere outside the City as I did this once and it took hours to get in and out so wasting your valuable time. I wouldn't like to recommend anywhere for you as prices and quality can change. I stayed in the Latin quarter last time I went. Hope this gives you some ideas and again have a lovely time. x
