The hotel's contemporary interpretation of traditional Kyoto values has earned the Kyoto Scenic Beauty Award, as well as the BCS Awards for excellence in modern architecture. From the impressive main entrance, and the courtyard water feature recreating the simple purity of the city's Horikawa River, the atmosphere of quiet composure communicates a sense of calm and relaxation to every guest.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The reception is on the ground floor with a very pleasant atmosphere that they have achieved with a garden and water. Breakfast is buffet although Japanese food predominates. The only downside is that it is not very close to the city center.

This hotel has a relaxing atmosphere and is close to Nishi Honganji Temple and Higashi Honganji Temple. I stayed in a superior twin room, which was spacious and clean, with a spacious bathroom and toilet. There was also a courtyard and a bar. We had a nice time before dinner, relaxing with a drink at the bar from 5pm. For breakfast, we had Tankuma's Japanese set meal of porridge. Each dish was carefully prepared and very gentle on the body, with a taste that was typical of Kyoto. It would be nice if the room had some recommended Kyoto-style cosmetics.

This clean and quiet hotel is a bit away from the sights of Kyoto but I still recommend it. We used the free shuttle to/from the train station every day to get us started or back to the hotel at day’s end - it only takes 10 minutes. Unfortunately the rooftop bar was closed while we were there but we went into the main floor bar, where they offer discounts during happy hour. There are only a handful of restaurants nearby so we sometimes just did takeout in the room.

Stay with a Kawadoko dinner plan to see the Gion Festival. It was next to Nishi Honganji Temple and was visible from the room. It was a clean and reasonably large room. I was relaxed in a facility built in a spacious space. The Kawadoko dinner was quite far from the city, but with a round trip microbus transfer, we were able to enjoy the Gion Matsuri efficiently and enjoyed plenty afterwards. Enjoy Kyoto cuisine at Tankuma for breakfast.

I’m here with a Gate 1 tour group for 2 nights and it’s clear that the standards are lower now. When you walk in, it’s quite nice, but the rooms are old, musty and dirty. The bathroom looks like it might have had a reno but the rest of the room is unacceptable. The vent is covered in black mold and the air filter is full of dust ready to drop off. Surfaces are dusty and there is barely any lighting in the room. Also, the A/C is centrally controlled so you’re stuck with a warm room since the A/C is very weak. Be careful in the tub because it’s extremely slippery. It was nice to have a free shuttle to to the train station because it’s about a 10 minute drive away. It needs a clean up which is surprising since I thought Japan took extreme pride in sanitation standards.

Small room with bathroom so small there were no surfaces on which to put anything. Location is not suited to independent travellers as it is far from everything with no amenities or public transplant. The hotel has a shuttle but to the station but it only runs daytime and is often too full so people are left behind. I did not pre-booked breakfast, but it became such a drama when I turned up I gave up and checked out early.

Right hotel, not too close to Gion neighborhood. The room and bathroom very clean, the staff right. Dinner meal in the restaurant, with menu, a little fair. A Caesar salad, loose and a burger with three cheeses and sauce, which with a beer has cost €40,

We visited as part of a large group touring Japan. This hotel was booked by our UK tour operator. The Kyoto Tokyu Hotel is in a poor location, some distance from the downtown area and its attractions. We had to take taxi to explore as there were few local shops, restaurants, facilities or attractions. The rooms were very warm. We set the air conditioning to 16C in an effort to be cooler, but room temperature remained over 26C. Opening the full length window (which opened so wide that you could jump out from the 5th floor on which our tiny room was situated) allowed mosquitoes to get in so we were both bitten overnight. Some of the other members of our group described similar problems. Rooms are small with very limited storage space. Breakfast is average but you have to get there early to avoid the queues. Overall not a great experience: you're better off to choose somewhere more centrally located.

We stayed here for 9 fabulous nights. The hotel is very old fashioned with staff out the front ready to greet you and take your luggage. We stayed on the 8 floor and had a gorgeous room with an envious view of a temple at the side and in the distance we could see a pagoda and the Kyoto tower all light up at night. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. There is a mini bus that will take there and back from Kyoto station which is a super service. Breakfast is plentiful and there is lots of food to choose from . Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay

The hotel advertises as 4 star…no way. The hotel built in the eighties need desperate renovations to compete with other hotels in the area. The rooms are tiny & outdated. Very disappointed with the physical condition of the rooms. Extra hard beds!! One of few hotels we stayed that does not have bar soap. Do not recommend staying unless it undergoes major renovations. That said, the location is fantastic with Hop Off/Hop On bus stop in front of hotel along with free hotel shuttle bus twice an hour to Kyoto train station.

You are correct. We booked one room and they hadn't renovated it, it was terrible so of course we took the pricier room but complained because we had book a 4 star hotel and the first room was like a shabby motel. They wouldn't accommodate on the price and I felt people should know and not go there.
This is a beautiful hotel, with a great location and free shuttle to the train station. They do have air conditioning, but depending when you visit, you may not need it. Each room does have it's own bathroom and hair dryer. Kyoto is a fabulous place to visit, especially during the fall and the spring. Have a great visit.
Hi
I didn't find anything about this hotel that great. Location was average I would recommend staying by train station to get around a lot easier. Rooms at this hotel had hard beds , stained and cigarette burned carpets. Foyer was 5 star but rooms were 3 star. I would not stay here again.
Hope this helps.
There are more places to choose from in the Kyoto area.
