Cross Hotel Kyoto garners high praise for its extensive amenities, including sumptuous breakfast choices and luxurious bath salts, which many guests appreciate. The hotel's prime location is a hit among reviewers, with easy access to public transportation and local attractions. Service at the hotel is frequently lauded for being both professional and friendly. While rooms are commended for their cleanliness and comfort, a few guests find them on the smaller side. My husband, two teens and I stayed here for four nights, and enjoyed our stay very much. We shared a room for four people, and it was spacious enough for us, although we did not spend much time in the room. The room was quiet and the beds were comfortable. The shower had great water pressure, although the angle of the handheld wand when hung on the hook made it a little awkward to shower properly without craning your neck. Breakfast was not good. But this hotel represents such a good value. It is clean, the staff is very helpful and kind, the rooms are quiet and comfortable, and it is in a fantastic location. I am especially grateful to the concierge for all of the communication before arrival, as they worked hard to help me find and book restaurants that could accommodate my food allergies. Two minor complaints - need soap for the second sink in the toilet room and need lotion in the room. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to any Kyoto travelers looking for a midrange, value hotel that has everything you need.

After frequent travels, it takes a special hotel to be remembered. I lost my wallet in the train station on our way to Kyoto and the staff worked hard to liaise with JR to find it and forward it to our next hotel. This exceptional service remained evident throughout our stay, from the friendly and efficient check-in process, the prompt response to our requests for extra pillows and an iron and securing our dinner reservations at short notice (shoutout to Madoka).

On top of that, the hotel is ideally situated near a subway stop (Sanjo) and within a 3 minute-walk to the best restaurants in the area, 8 minutes to Nishiki Market and about 12 minutes to Gion. It also offers a high-quality breakfast buffet with Lavazza coffee (also free in the lobby) and real French croissants. The room is spotless and tastefully furnished to reflect the simple and clean lines of Japanese design and create a sense of calm and serene surroundings for its customers.

To the staff, thank you and I will forever be indebted to you. Hope to be back for a longer stay.

Thank you for choosing to stay with Cross Hotel Kyoto and for your exceptional review. It was our pleasure to hear that our staff were able to assist you in finding your wallet and ensuring your stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We strive to go above and beyond for our guests, and it is wonderful to know that our efforts including finding the lost items, prompt response, and dinner reservations by our concierge Madoka made a positive impact on your trip. These mini croissants you mentioned as "real French croissants" are buttery and crispy, and baked in the kitchen every day. Our breakfast buffet offers a variety of breakfast items to boost your energy as the day begins, and we carefully deliver the contents one by one. It is great that you enjoyed it very much. Thank you again for your perfect score rating. We look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back to our hotel soon. Best regards, Cross Hotel Kyoto

The Cross Hotel we found via other travel blogs. The hotel is very modern and well run with efficent and polite staff, all whom spoke quite good English.

The rooms were very tidy and even though it is in a major part of Kytoto is was very quiet apart from some party goers once outside on the orad on Sunday night.

The breakfast offers a huge range of food, both western and eatern inspired and the huge rooms you eat in were very comfortable with nice large cocuhes and artworks on the walls.

The beds and pillows were the usual firm sort you get in Japan, which I actually prefer to overly soft.

The location is excellent, a block away from the river, which has plenty of great walks around Gion and the old geiko areas. It is also very close to the resturants, food areas, subway and bus lines, making it an excellent spot for tourists.

Thank you so much for choosing to stay at Cross Hotel Kyoto and for your thoughtful and detailed review! We are thrilled to hear that you found our hotel to be modern, well-run, and in a fantastic location for sightseeing in Kyoto. It is wonderful to know that our efficient and polite staff, along with our spacious rooms and quiet atmosphere, contributed to your positive experience. We are glad you enjoyed the breakfast selection, which blends both Western and Eastern inspired dishes, and found the breakfast room comfortable and welcoming. The impressive interior of the restaurant pays homage to the traditions and history of Kyoto, and includes a bar area with an impressive ceiling designed to resemble a Japanese umbrella, as well as high tables where you can casually socialize. We are also happy that you appreciated the firmness of our beds and pillows, as we strive to offer comfort that suits a variety of preferences. We truly appreciate your kind words and look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Kyoto! Best regards, Cross Hotel Kyoto

Very basic and underwhelming hotel. Location is good but the hotel is very overpriced for what it is. Entrance has a slightly dinghy feel with automatic check in and austere ambiance. The rooms are ok but nothing special given the price. We booked breakfast which was a waste of money with limited food selection and average quality. If you want your room cleaned you must put a sign on your door each day, we did so and returned at 3pm to a dirty room, apparently housekeeping comes between 10am and 6pm. Maid turned up and seemed grumpy about coming! Feels like a budget hotel at premium price, would not come back.

This hotel was an excellent base for exploring Kyoto and the surrounding area. The hotel is across the street from Nishiki Market and is surrounded by restaurants and shops that cater to tourists, which doesn’t sound very compelling until you realize that many restaurants and shops that cater to locals open late and close early. Additionally, the hotel is a few minutes walk away from the Sanjo Keihan Station, which opens up a lot of options for convenient day trips. Additionally, this hotel is centrally located in Kyoto and makes it possible to walk to many points of interest in Kyoto, like the National Garden and Gion.

Beyond the location, the hotel staff was very efficient and helpful, and the decor and amenities provided felt more luxurious than expected for the price we paid. It was really nice to come “home” to a very upscale and hip looking hotel at the end of every day.

My wife, 1.5 year old son, and I stayed in a Superior King room and had more than ample space for our 6 day stay. In fact, the bathroom was relatively huge and the separate toilet room was very convenient.

I was surprised to find that the hotel offered green tea and coffee service in the lobby throughout the day. Most hotels we’ve stayed in have limited hours for such service. Additionally, the electric kettle and pour over coffee sets in the room (hidden in a sleek cabinet) were much much better quality than what you would receive in most U.S. or European hotels rooms. The same could be said for the soaps and small amenities provided in the lobby.

As seems to be the standard in Japan, the entire hotel was extremely clean and well maintained. Everything from the linens to the furniture to the fixtures was in excellent condition.

Finally, I have to commend the hotel’s restaurant- Kiharu Brasserie. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet 5 out of 6 mornings and found it to be extremely convenient and
providing a great mix of Western breakfast
foods as well as a few local breakfast dishes. As with many restaurants we visited in Japan, the staff was very helpful in providing us a high chair and kid-sized utensils and dishes for our son. The restaurant was an absolute lifesaver when I inadvertently failed to make a reservation for dinner on a Saturday night. The Japanese spin on European dishes (e.g., Yuzu panna cotta) was the perfect mix of familiarity and fun that we needed after a long day. The staff were so kind and attentive that at the end of our meal, I was actually glad that I hadn’t made reservations elsewhere.

If we venture back to Kyoto, which we may, we will be more than happy to stay at this hotel again!

If the staff is still available, the "ecological" side at all costs should definitely be revisited.
The staff upon our arrival told us that without instructions from us, cleaning is only done every 3 days. Which means that the beds are not even made, the water bottles not replaced, etc.... ...and when you put the right labels (namely: I would like my room cleaned and the towels changed) if you come back to rest around 3 p.m.: nothing is done!!!!!! and the icing on the cake I was treated to a little message in the toilet indicating that we had to save paper!!!!!! When will the instruction not to wash every day???
Inadmissible
Although the hotel is very well located, we were very disappointed by these new instructions (we had stayed there last year). Add to that, the really small room (impossible to open your suitcase anywhere other than on the bed) and 2 uncomfortable wooden stools......

We visited Kyoto for the first time and saw that the “Cross” hotel chain was very well rated, so we decided to stay there and were left with a taste in our mouths.
The hotel has incredible facilities and location. The rooms are first class, the spaces quite spacious and the shower, let's not even talk about it because it is wonderful! The water pressure is delicious to start or end the day after sightseeing. It also has a tub in case you want to take a relaxing bath.
The toilet, as is typical in Japan, has the technology to make you feel good even in those moments.
The train stations are approximately 8 minutes away, so arrival and departure by train are very accessible.
The hotel is located one block from the most commercial street in Kyoto, where you can find shops of all kinds, as well as the Nashiki Market where you will discover many places to eat very different things.
You will also find Pontocho Alley one block away, ideal for dining in one of its delicious restaurants.
Definitely, it is a place that will meet your expectations. 🇯🇵🤍

Very happy with our stay at the Cross Hotel Kyoto. Location couldn’t be better for a wheelchair user. In a side lane right near the main shopping and eating streets of Kyoto, all flat and easily navigable. Also to little laneways of charm and tiny bars and restaurants. Walked to Nishiki Market in 15mins with the wheelchair. Close to a little stream and beyond, the river. Across the river is Gion. Design of the hotel is zen like and easy to enter in and out. Breakfast was very good. A couple of photos of the breakfast area attached. Our room had 3 single beds and we managed with a wheelchair and luggage. My husband can walk a little. Hotel supplied a shower chair for the bathroom which is a wet room with a bath. Did hear the odd bit of noise from the laneway during the night but nothing to complain about. We either walked or caught taxis to the tourist attractions so can’t comment on public transport. Staff very helpful and helped us arrange our luggage onto the next hotel.

Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Pontocho, the Cross Hotel Kyoto is an affordable bang for your buck stay when visiting Kyoto. While it may not be close to the gigantic Kyoto Station, it is within walking distance to the Gion District. The room is spacious. The bathroom is uniquely designed in that the toilet is separated from the bathing area. I must admit that the toilet room is small and confining. The staff is accommodating to a T, pleasant and all to eager to answer the needs of the hotel guest. The breakfast from 7-10 offers a wide variety of American/European style breakfast and Japanese fare. You can't go wrong when you offer steak slices cooked medium rare, buttery taste and tender. I recommend this hotel whole heartedly.

Thank you very much for choosing Cross Hotel Kyoto from among so many hotels. We are sorry to hear the toilet was too small for your needs. As you mentioned, our rooms come with a separate toilet and a bathroom which is equipped with a Japanese-style soaking tub in a wet area for added convenience, so you may feel that the toilet room is a little bit small. We will pass your comment to the management team for review and improvement of guest experience. However, we are delighted to have exceeded your expectations with a lot of points including not only our tangible aspects, but also the intangible aspects. Our restaurant “KIHARU Brasserie” offers a delicious grilled menu including chicken, bacon and sausage, as well as freshly prepared salads and fruits, egg menus along with classic Japanese menus to boost your energy. We have received positive feedback from many of our guests and it is good to see that you enjoyed it as well. Thank you again for taking the time to write us such wonderful feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to us soon. Warm regards, Cross Hotel Kyoto

I instantly loved this hotel upon seeing how centrally located it was from everything: dining, sightseeing, kyotos landmarks and shopping!
The front desk staff were so accomodating with our bed requirements, assistance with booking taxis for our day trips and even getting us a van to head back to the airport after our 6 night holiday. Save on your luggage space! They provide you with 100% cotton pajamas, a complete set of heavenly scented bathing needs (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and bath salts for your evening soak) and bedroom slippers. The housekeeping staff keep your room spotless for an excellent nights sleep throughout your whole stay!!!
Thank you to the management of this hotel!!!

I did not experience any queue for the breakfasts at all. This will depend on whether the hotel is busy or not but I did not experience that problem. You could contact the notel and ask. I really enjoyed the breakfasts at the nice surroundings of their dining room. Hotel breakfasts are usually dearer but it is a matter of convenience and having the variety of foods available.
