Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Rooms of decent size but assume this is typical for Kyoto where there's less crowding.
On site, self operated and coin operated washer and dryer which is appreciated.
Wish the lobby had large tables so could eat outside of room.
Hotel holds luggage before and after check in/check out free of charge.
If you want to check in early (before 3pm), it's 2200 yen per hour. We wanted to check in 1 hr early and there would still have been a charge.
Was on a higher level so didn't hear any noise from the street.
Beds are firm, more firm than what I like, but I found this to be true for all hotels in Japan.
On site spa is gender specific because bathing suits are not allowed; this is the norm in Japan so be prepared.

After watching a movie at the Kyoto Cultural Museum, I walked south down Karasuma Dori and checked in. It opened in November 2018, but there were few customers due to the coronavirus pandemic, so it's new and clean. The first time I used it was in September 2020, when there was an uproar due to the coronavirus infection. The reception at the front desk is polite and courteous. The guest rooms on the 7th floor are standard twin rooms, with calm whitish colors. There is also a sofa where you can relax. The large public bath on the first floor has a separate bathtub and washing area, so you won't have to worry about the shower splashing on you while you're taking a bath. I enjoyed soaking comfortably in the evening and the next morning while looking at the small garden where I planted kibo, which is characterized by its bamboo-like knotted stems. I used the "Kyoto Charm Rediscovery Trip Project".

Stayed in 4 different hotels while traveling around Japan. This one the cheapest and definitely the best one.
Rooms big, clean and modern.
Staff really friendly. Good location. 10 mins walk to the main street and markets.
There is 2 washing machines on the ground floor, but if they are taken, once you pass, females entry to the baths, there is 2 more, just if you a female, good to know if 2 pain ones taken.
Unfortunately the bar/restaurant was closed for private party's all 5 nights that we were there so could not try it out.
Additional, if you loose room key card they charge you 500yen for new one. In my situation I just left it behind me in the room, but was still charge for it. Never heard this in any hotel that we stayed around the world.

The reception team asked me to pay for a replacement slipper. If I wanted to get it for free, they needed to come to my room at 9:30pm to check if my slippers were really wet after taking a shower. In my opinion, this is a ridiculous service.

Very small hotel breakfast a disaster had to queue for 30 minutes to get into restaurant. Food dreadful looks like bought in pre packed food. Rooms very small and no room to put case or clothes, no wardrobe just hangers by door. Have to queue for lifts regularly and priority given by staff to some guests while others made wait.

Great hotel that smells like lavender, nice entry. Reception staff speak moderate English. Rooms and hotel are nicely decorated, and would be a 4 star hotel in Europe. Please note....some rooms have no view. Breakfast is very good, restaurant is very nice. If you enter after 09.30 the first thing you will be told is that breakfast lasts until 10.00. You'll be seriously sent away at 10:00. I was still eating myself. For Europeans, this is a very rude and inhospitable thing to do.

Very nice hotel well located with nice services. Any equipment provided on a daily basis: toothbrush, toothpaste, slipper, pajamas, hairbrush, toiletries, gloves. The toilets are very modern, heated and very comfortable. The breakfast is fantastic, very varied, the brick vault room is very nice. Nice experience.

5.5 years old boy in women spa watching women without clothing They boy starred at women and playing here and there. It's not respect women. Though it's the Japan law to allow 6 years old kid to follow parent of opposite sex, it brings people discomfort, angry, embrassment, humiliations . Don't forget hotel serves lots of foreigners. They should be more world-oriented. Hotel/Japan just cares about children, how about humans (men/ women) I advised their family to take him away asap, but they still very proud to claim their boy only 5.5 years old. It's ridiculous and barbarian.

The room was very small - which is unfortunately more often the case in Japanese hotels. However, it seemed to me even smaller compared to other hotels on the same trip. For one person straight with hanging and choking ok, for two people it would not have gone at all. It was set up normally. What is not possible, however, is that it had no window. Unfortunately, I did not notice this on the arrival evening because a blind was lowered. This should probably deliberately deceive the guests, because there was no window behind it. Hence the complete devaluation. If you have a choice, choose another hotel. On a round trip immediately check and insist on another room!
I used the breakfast buffet. Asian or Japanese breakfast is different. That's also fine - in other hotels I always found something Japanese (or European) that I liked. I'm afraid not here. But if there is almost nothing "European" - but pizza - that's not so good...
The hotel initially looks appealing in the photos. However, the annoyances are hidden at second glance, so I definitely cannot recommend the Keio Prelia in Kyoto.

The general manager was very rude with me, I’ve never experienced that in any hotel in my life. I thought the checkout time was 12pm, they called me at 11am to tell me to go out, I told them I was sorry for the late as I thought it was at 12 and they kept calling me every 5min to tell me to go out. Once downstairs the general manager was very angry and rude, I had the hotel pyjama and asked politely if I could go to the kimono shop where my clothes were while leaving them my luggage just for 1h, he forced me 10 times to call the kimono shop to bring me my clothes at the hotel even though I declined to do so. Very poor service I will never come back to this hotel.
