Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.

This place is a gem of a hotel. It’s not crowded, the rooms are cozy and recently renovated, and it’s tucked away in a quieter corner of Gion. Yes, it’s a 10-ish min walk from the nearest train stations, but the service you get is second to none and I can’t recommend this place

The Gion Inn is a sleekly modern hotel in the old geisha district. The tidy no-frills room is complimented with a terrific breakfast, that will set you up for the day. But by far the best part is the young cheerful staff -- many of whom have years of experience in the States,

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast served at the café, and are honored to receive your compliment about our staffs. We all brush our language skills so that our guests can feel comfortable as if they are at home, which is our principal motto. Sorry for surprising you with the extra tax, however we hope you understand that it was an accommodation tax collected by the city of Kyoto. On behalf of our entire team, we look forward to giving you a warm welcome back on your next visit to Kyoto. Best regards, Kyoto INN Gion

What a wonderful hotel. A special gem! Very good value. It also includes a delicious breakfast. The location can’t be beat for a high tourist area that is also relatively low-key compared to the Kyoto Station area. The staff are friendly, English speaking, and so very helpful.

Dear arlenejoe-san, Thank you a very much for your previous stay and the excellent review on TripAdvisor! We are happy to know that you were satisfied with the service we've provided and appreciate your compliment as being a “Home away from Home”. It was really a relief to us too, when your missing passport was delivered by the taxi driver, so one of our staff ran to the Police office to try to inform you about it before you complete the procedure of reissuing the passport. Our mission at Kyoto INN Gion is to host our guests as if it is their home. Your comments encourage us as we thrive to uphold the Japanese tradition of outstanding “Omotenashi” hospitality to our guests and visitors. Basically, the tour is held on every Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I suppose that the 28th March, 2nd April or 4th April will be the operating date of the tour during your stay. Please choose which ever date you prefer, and if you could be kind enough to inform us your preferring date, we’ll be glad to book you in for the tour in advance. Please be noted: The tour starts from Hotel Kyoto INN Gion (not the Second), and takes about 75minute. The tour may be called off depending on bad weather conditions.
