City Centre
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

We opted for a ryokan as opposed to a hotel as we wanted to try this authentic Japanese experience. Everything about it was great the tatami mats futon bed dining table in our room. Except that’s as far it went (no dinner or breakfast in our room) this was the whole point of

Enjoyed our 4 nights here, away from the bustle but central to most activities. About 200 metres from subway and well serviced by buses. Great hospitality from our Aussie living night porter. Clean neat and professionally run, highly recommend.

I don’t have a lot of comparisons, but really enjoyed the stay. Everything was very clean and quiet. Rooms are minimalist but reasonably spacious. Wifi is good, there is good AC/heat, and private toilet with shower. The onsen (one for men, one for women) was nice to warm up

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights when visiting Kyoto. The Ryokan is about a 15-20 minute walk from Gion and is very close to the imperial palace and surrounded by very nice streets and buildings. The traditional Japanese style breakfast was delicious and very

Thank you for asking about Ryokan Sawaya Honten. It costs within ¥2000 from JR Kyoto central station to the hotel by taxi. It takes about 20 minites by taxi. It is not convenient to take the subway to the hotel. Because the guests need to walk more than 15 minites from JR kyoto central station to near Keihan subway station. Best regards From Nakamura
